Tomlin said both Bush and Spillane were "Varsity" in their abilities. STFU Cool Shades. Just say it how it was. One or both of them need to play substantially better or they need to be looking for a different solution.

I totally agree that Bush is at the varsity level. High school 1A or 2A style, that is.

We will be soft up the middle again this season..
How do we overcome that is the real debate..

Play gap discipline football up front like they used to do with LeBeau. They're not going to do that because they like to get to the QB.

The issue is the new DL scheme we play is all about getting a pass rush and stopping the run on the way to the qb… the old 3/4 was tge opposite… the high end talent dlmen like heyward can do it… the backups, not so much

Channel 11 news just had a snippet on Bush and it sounds like he’s taking his career for granted. Something about him saying “I’ll be in the NFL next year whether it’s with the Steelers or not”.

Another reason the Steelers will really miss Tuitt. Those two guys and Alualu were all high-end talent.

Wormley can get to the QB and do nothing against the run. Mondeaux is a guy who's easy to root for, but man, he stinks against the run and you know they're getting shredded when he's out there. Then when you have a soft ILB in Bush playing behind these guys, just not a good combination. Loudermilk does have some potential to be that shutdown run defender. He would've been an unheralded monster in LeBeau's defense.

I think the free agent DL and ILBer added will help toughen up the run D. All Mack has to do is go to the spot Bush is getting pushed out of.

Not everyone was a fan of trading up to get Bush, and according to reports Spillane is standing out, and Bush isn't making any plays. If Spillane beats Bush out, it's time to certify he's a bust. Young rookie Robinson is also making his share of plays according to the practice reports.
Google works for me too.

What have YOU seen about young Robinson that equates to mediocre Bush???

This ought to be good…

If he doesn’t work out, then the old Steelers adage will be proven true… A first in the hand is certainly worth more than a first, second and third in a Bush….

Thoughts on Bush's response to this question?

If a first-round pick isn't good enough to be a starter, then the Steelers got some Spillainin' to do.

I wouldn't compare the two. Google works for you. You can read what the beat writers say about Robinson. I don't need to create a thread on him.

On the ILB's we got trouble. Jack is the best we have for now but he was cut from the Jaguars. Remember that. The last Jaguars cast off was an expensive flop. Bush isn't good vs the run or pass and I fail to see his veteran smarts and awareness. Spillane is trending as the starter for this season, at least he's cheap. More physical than Bush ( who isn't ) vs the run. Not that he's good in coverage but he's smart, and has good hands. He gotten a few of his hands on the passes thrown in camp. Robinson only played one year of linebacker in the SEC and did well. So far in camp he has flashed the ability to move well, tackle, and hit. Can blitz well too. I say he's the best hitter in camp. He's raw but impress as a run defending " two down" ILB. Needs a lot of work in pass coverage recognition. Johnson is fodder, I find zero to like about him.

Next year in the draft we need to spend a 1st, 2nd or 3rd on ILB. I prefer an offensive tackle, or even a QB is Pickett doesn't show something in round one. I do not think Pickett is a long term answer. A Franchise QB, and it seems like you need one of the top 15 QB's in the game to make the playoffs. It's a loaded QB class in 2023, I'm telling ya! We should know about the current QB's as the season closes.

There you have it Pickett will be a long term franchise QB.
