I love Munch as a Coordinator and think he was a decent HC in TN, but if their past choices are any indication, they want a young, up & comer that grows in the position into their 40s+. I'm sure he is out there learning and being groomed on another NFL staff right now.
I agree you could do that, but WILL a new HC do that?
As far as a young coach with POTENTIAL, I would much rather get a more EXPERIENCED coach who has a proven track record. Think more along the lines of a quality FA on their second contract, than a unproven draft choice. The Steelers hit a home run when they got Chuck Noll, but in reality they fell short of that with the Cowher and Tomlin picks. Many have forgotten or never experienced the Cowher years, so he is always cut some slack, where as the Tomlin years are still fresh in everyone’S minds. I expect his level of suckatude will be forgotten as well, years from now. Hell, even Noll was kept on for a few years past his expiration date.
If it were me heading up the team, I would begin looking for a replacement. If Tomlin wants to resign because of that, fine, but I would not can him until I had someone to take the helm. Yes, that can be seen as a dick move, but, it is business.
