Gerod Holliman

Good value pick in the 7'th. At least he can catch the damn ball. I imagine his tackling will be addressed first thing in camp.

Worst tackler than Scott shields?

Golson had 10 picks and Holliman had 14 picks last year. Pittsburgh Steelers had 11 last year. We need guys who can catch the God Damn ball.

Steelers are a defend the run first team, he will be schooled quickly on the way things are done here.

I am not concerned about his 40 time that much because he is a 4.6 guy in and our of pads. If he matures, I think he could be a diamond in the rough - the question is will he take coaching? I am certain his coaches saw the same things we did and threw up a little but watching him tackle like a little *****.

This is a passing league, and we need guys who can make plays on the ball. We have been sorely lacking in that department for YEARS, and finally we are drafting playmakers. I also think Shazier, with a year under his belt, will cause some turnovers as well. I'm very excited for the infusion of talented youth on this D.

Vontez Burfit seemed like a guy that couldn't be coached but the Bengals are happy with him. Maybe we can make something out of this guy in time. At least he has one trait (intercepting the ball) that is exceptional.

That is kinda what I am shooting for. Sometimes these kids mature late and if he matures we have a good player.

Holliman is the worst tackler I've ever seen. It's pathetic. The only way he is seeing the field is if he takes to coaching and works tirelessly fixing it. I guess it's worth a 7th to find out. Lord knows we need guys back there who can actually intercept the ball.

Amazing that the Thorpe Award winner lasted until the 7th round. Let's hope that he has a huge chip on his shoulder and comes in to camp and blows the place up.

OK, so he's a bad tackler. Is it true he's only played football for one year? If so, he figured out the passing game pretty well. Logically, he has time to improve his tackling, since he doesn't shy away from contact.

Deion Sanders couldn't tackle for crap, and his career ended up pretty well. No, I'm not saying Holliman is Deion, just saying you can still have a good player even if one part of his game sucks. Especially for the price of a 7th rounder.

Over the top nit picking of a seventh round pick is pretty damn stupid. If he were a finished product with his coverage skills he would have been gone four rounds sooner.

Tackling can be fixed. Maybe. Then again, I remember the greatest safety the Steelers ever had flying past some runners as he had a tendency to not wrap up either (Granted, I couldn't watch the tape so don't know if he wants to hit too hard or takes bad angles or what?).....I'd be more worried about his tendency to jump routes especially given that I'm sure he's aware he was taken for his interception potential. But let's wait and see. I agree it's good the Steelers recognized turn over potential as something they lacked and tried to address.

He is a poor tackler to be sure, so here's the question. How do you fix it? Or, can it be fixed at this point? With the new CBA and the limited amount of contact, how do you teach a gut to tackle without actually having him tackle someone? This is a skill that needs to be learned a long time prior to becoming an NFL player, IMO. In years past, yes, you could get him on the field and teach him and actually have make tackles (or not), but now, it will be more difficult.

He will have the whole preseason to see how quick of a learner he is. If it is mission difficult for him welcome to the NFL nothing comes easy.............

My question assumes that he has the "want to" to make himself better, I'm am questioning whether the CBA and practice rules will allow him to get better at a skill that requires contact. As Jon Gruden loves to say, "If you can't tackle, you can't play".

It is watered down from years past. But I think the way they get around that is making the practices longer, as it is limited to how many tackle sessions correct?

In training camp that is how it seems to me, they make those tackle practices as long as needed.

Ed Reed sucked at tackling too. If we can teach him he could at least be out backup FS. Still wouldn't mind signing Anthony Harris too.

He must have done something right

That's high praise - and I like it! Marsha Brady will not pick us apart if all these boys make the team...

If they do well enough - and Cortez gets kicked inside - the secondary could be super scary...

He does not have to be a head banger at FS - if he provides half of those INTs a year - just WOW...

That video just proves how hard it is to draft based on what they do in college. Half that Louisville team was drafted and they tackle like school girls lol. Did our guy ever wrap up and tackle anyone??? I love the human canon ball technique lol

He looks athletic and has a nose for where the ball is and where it's going to be...you can teach tackling hard to teach instincts.
