Do you also love diversion and endless talking about everything non-Archer to make him look like a good draft pick? Is there anybody else you want to compare him to, to make him look better? Any other teams draft picks that suck so you can feel better about drafting Archer?

I skipped most of Tibs post, because it included players drafted in much different positions. I look at those available at the time and haven't seen much from those around the same pick. That is all that really matter.
I'm such a member of the CJC, I've said, many times, I wouldn't have taken him.

I have no issue with that. Like Wingman said, several of those guys were productive. Why wouldn't you want a better player at a position of need that may end up being starter down the line?
I don't feel that any fan needs to defend the Archer pick, or any other pick for that matter. Those who need to defend the pick are Tomlin, Colbert and .... Archer. Either they figure out a way to make the pick worth the investment or they admit the experiment is/has been a failure. The Steelers (this F.O. and Coaching Staff) aren't the first to make this type of mistake and they won't be the last.
As a fan, you have to admit that there were different, if not better, options available that would have addressed one of the more pressing needs the team had. Not addressing those needs and choosing a player who is a project at any position you think he MIGHT play makes the Archer selection what others have called it ... a luxury pick. My problem isn't so much with Dri, who I'd love to see succeed. It's with the pick itself and the thought process that says that this iteration of the Steelers can afford a luxury pick when there are/were so many other positions that needed addressed.
What I'm saying is that I'm indifferent to the player but disliked the pick. I'll HOPE the kid can cut it ... at some position. I'll root for him to make the team and make significant contributions. But I don't think the pick itself gave the most value at that point in the draft.

Vader, that's what we're all hoping to find out, wether or not he's a good player, worthy of a 3rd round pick.
You've been singing the same song - for over a year now - of how god-awful Dri Archer is. We get it. The kid had just gotten drafted and within minutes you and others were there to drop a grand piano on his head.
Contrary to your inner fears there is no Dri Archer bandwagon, cause he hasn't done jack **** yet. Nobody's sitting here trying to convince you - or anyone else - that Dri Archer's a great player. Who the **** knows?
If Spud Webb can win the NBA dunk contest, Dri Archer can play in the NFL. That's my argument for what a great 3rd round pick he was. Sometimes you take chances, the draft is like that.
I understand their reasoning drafting a speed demon extraordinaire. I would argue that's why they picked a guy like Shazier as well. Let's see if either of these guys pan out...we know about as much about Shazier as we do about Archer.
Now enough with the diversions. Get back to work convincing the rest of us how much Dri Archer sucks.

I'm calling bullshit on the term "luxury pick". It's a lazy term. We drafted a player with talent. Not only did he have the second fastest time ever at the combine, but he holds the stride record for that same 40 yd time with Megatron, who happens to be about a foot taller (I'm exaggerating of course). That is ******* sick-house. I still haven't got a clear answer to that incredible feat of speed in so few strides from a 'midget'. To me, not only is the kid fast, but he has to have some of the strongest legs pound for pound to do it in so few strides.
I can see the reasoning for taking him as a third round comp with those measurables. I expect to see it on the field as well, and I expect this year should be an improvement to his rookie year.

I thought we should have picked Bryant in the 3rd round. And really, that's proved correct because Bryant is the far superior NFL player and prospect than Dri Archer. That isn't even up for debate.
The fact this organization had Archer higher on their board than Bryant tells me a lot about how they evaluate prospects. And I don't think that's a good thing.

I think Bryant did a lot better than a lot of the players picked before him by every other team also. I'm guessing it tells us a lot about how they evaluate prospects also. I also am guessing that isn't a good thing either. Point is every team misses. Right?

If you look at the NFL draft tracker for 2014, it had Dri as round 3-4 and Bryant at 4-5. Both exactly where they went. Oh, but nobody cares about what talking heads on nfl.Com think because it disagrees with their preconceived notions.

Dri, is what he is. If he gives us 250-400 yards receiving, 240-350 yards rushing, 3-TDs, Thats what he is. We can't change the draft pick order he was, but lets hope he can change what he is......

It wasn't a matter of who they liked more in what round. It was who they felt would be available. They felt like Bryant would still be there in the 4th and archer may not of been. Similar to the scouts convincing Noll to take Swann in the first when he wanted to take Stallworth. Stallworth would be there later the scouts said. And for the love of god im not comparing Archer and Bryant to those guys just the scenario.

Every pick has a chance to miss. My concern is the process and logical analysis of looking at a player like Archer in college and somehow having him higher on your board than a player like Bryant. That really doesn't make a lot of sense to me unless you are prioritizing things completely wrong and using your team needs (or perceived team needs) to truly alter best player available and your big board a lot.
I still don't know the logic behind what they saw in Archer's college film, what they thought he would become, how he would fit into the offense or why/if they thought the special teams return game needed that much of a boost. I am really against chasing special teams yards in the draft and this regime has done it a few times. First, I don't think it works as often as you think. Second, I don't think special teams yards are that important to winning/losing football games (not nearly as much as some people think).
To this day, no one has really made a good argument to me on the logic behind the pick.

You are doing your typical bait and switch. I'm not arguing that he sucks and is a bust. I'm arguing that you don't draft an injury prone, small, short RB with no position in the NFL in the 3rd round. You say that I've been singing the same song for over a year now... well obviously you haven't been listening.
As for the bandwagon, you obviously have changed your tune from last year. In the Archer thread there were people saying he couldn't be caught and that all the offense needs to do is isolate him on a lb and game over. He was going to be McCluster II but with more speed. Do you not remember any of that? Now people have changed their minds some. Now it's "Wait and see".... it wasn't last year.
Also Spud Webb has no relation to Archer. That's just weak. The NBA doesn't allow the other team to run over you. Hard to believe someone would make such a ridiculous argument.
Someone compared drafting Dri to the Chargers drafting Ryan Leaf and that's not ridiculous, but it's none of my business

It's called context. Someone was saying that because other teams drafted players that didn't do anything last year that means the Steelers were justified in drafting Archer. I never said because X player can play in a totally different league that automatically means Archer can play in the NFL.
