Don't think Ray Rice will be defended anymore...

By terminating Rice's contract and pretending like they'd never seen the video before, the Ravens can say they've taken a hard line. The fans seem to universally hate Roger Goodell, but he has done nothing but good for the owners, and they aren't likely to be in a hurry to try and find a new person that they can trust the way they trust Roger.

Not missing any point. Goodell and the Rats acted yesterday because of public outcry and not because of "seeing the video for the first time". That's a bunch of crap and everyone knows it. If the owners had any balls, they would call old Roger onto the carpet and get rid of him. I know they won't but they should.

That is simply speculation on your part. Emotional reasoning you want to be true based on the nature of the Steelers/Ravens rivalry, but with no real evidence to support.
i find it interesting (and not the least bit surprising) that this board has gone from "The Ravens will never cut him, he's too good!" to "Well, they just cut him because of the outcry!" after they did the right thing (something a certain other organization has failed to do over certain other incidents in the past).

There's about a billion a year in tax dollars paying for pro football stadiums. If you pay taxes, you're giving it to them anyway. Maybe not directly to the NFL, they are a non-profit after all, but the team owners.
 
Hollywood, that doesn't mean I don't think he SHOULD have been cut and banned. It just means I think he should immediately be arrested and she should be protected with a restraining order keeping him away from her and the children.
 
The Commish issues a "tougher" domestic abuse policy and then realizes it's lameness as this PR nightmare blows up. 1st time offender gets a 6 game suspension...except Ray Rice, He's banned.

The handling of this whole affair, as with all of the other punishments, fines, and policy gaffs over the years should finally shed enough light on Goodell as a bumbling ******* idiot to have the owners demand his resignation. But they wont.

OK, I will respond to your comments in this thread. Are you really that clueless? Have you not read or watched any of the news that has come out just since yesterday to keep it simple? As I said, the police had this video during their investigation. It was known to exist and it was known to show what Rice did to his fiance'. If Goodell and the Rats want to play semantics and say they didn't "see it", fine. But, as I already said, this video was known to exist and what was on it was known. The police chose not to release the tape during their investigation. The Rats did the right thing in cutting Rice but their reason and Goodell's reason for reopening the case are bogus. They did it because of outcry after people saw the video and because Goodell is trying to fix his screw up of only giving Rice a 2 game suspension to begin with and then immediately changed the NFL's policy. Again, seeing the video doesn't change the story when the video was known to exist. If Goodell wants to play that card, then he should have waited in the first place to punish Rice until the police released the video as they are required to, by law.

I'm still not sure I buy "what was on it was known" by the Ravens and maybe not even Goodell. Where are you getting that from?

It would look bad for the players' union to file a grievance, but they should. Another case of The Rogmeister making up the rules as he goes along.
 
I love everyone's self righteousness (media and fans). Rice only needs one person's forgiveness and since she married him after the fact,
I assume he got it. I don't know their history, but this could have been a one-time thing. Couples know how to push each others buttons,
so while no female every deserves physical abuse, I know females know how to use words to enrage their man. Saying certain things
can cause a version of temporary insanity where someone will do something outside of their normal behavior.

If you think that's the first time he has hit her, I have some sand to sell you in Iraq. Maybe she "forgave" him because she's scared of him or the money would go away. It doesn't matter, he brutally hit her that could have caused her death. To make it worse, they both tried to downplay it and basically lied to protect Ray Rice, the football player. They are not honest people and he's quite violent. That is a mixture of danger.

Sweet Jesus. The "she made me so mad I couldn't help myself" defense. Grow up and be a man for God's sake.

Lots of things can enrage us, from bad drivers to our kids to stupid sales clerks. It's our responsibility as adults to not let our anger get the better of us and allow ourselves to hurt somebody. Nobody shares in the blame for the actions we choose to take.

The whole story? Everything you need to know is on that tape. I don't care if she said "I ****** your best friend in the bathroom just now." No justification for what he did. Zero. She can forgive him if she wants to, fans and media have no obligation to forgive him or accept him.

The **** you cant. He punched her twice, the second shot knocked her cold. I dont care what she did, I dont care what she said. The fact of the matter is, YOU DONT HIT A WOMAN. I'm sure there are cases where a man needs to defend himself against harm regardless of gender, but that isn't the case here. There is no excuse in hitting her. PERIOD!

And this goes beyond their relationship. This resonates across the NFL and all sports. This is a bigger issue than just their relationship. But i'm not shocked to see a liberal ******** try to justify and excuse such a horrid act.

Yes, because its all about political correctness. The indefinite suspension by the NFL was done out of political correctness (and only AFTER the punching video came out). The silence of the feminist groups about this incident also makes it political.
