Don't think Ray Rice will be defended anymore...

Knee meet jerk. I think what transpired was terribly wrong. It was also a crime. I do not condone itin any way shape or form.
I also think the punishment does not fit the crime. In our society one of the things that justice is based on is the punishment must not be cruel or unusual and fit the crime. It is one thing for the rats to terminate his contract which they have the right to do for any number of reasons. It is clearly another matter to give him a ban from the league.

In addition to punishing Rice this move also punishes his wife and any children involved. All this punishment does is abandon the wife and any children to the abuser and allow the nfl to dodge helping to craft a meaningful preventive strategy that would provide for the dependants.

Couldn't he just say that was his cousin in the video? I think it worked for R Kelly.

Brody Logan @BrodyLogan
Harvey Levin from @TMZ told @TonyPerkinsFOX5 they will release news tomorrow that the NFL knew about the Ray Rice video & turned a blind eye

-if this is true Goodel might not be long for the role of commish. Harbaugh and Ozzie ought to be awfully worried too if the Ravens knew how bad it was and played it off.

They knew and the friggen Ravens knew. This league is so full of ****. It's the same **** with Spygate, only they could control all of that stuff cause they doused all the evidence with fire. Here, it was out of their control so they turn around and lie through their friggen teeth. Disgusting.

I think the NFL's new stricter policy and the Rice case may just have some unwanted consequences. Wives and girlfriends may just not report domestic violence as the outcome would mean a loss of a huge amount of income or the complete end of income for the player. Before you say no way there are more domestic violence incidents that go unreported as opposed to ones actually reported. A lot of battered woman sympathize with their men and now with a huge disincentive financially to not report these ,wives and girlfriends will be reticent to report the incidents for their own financial reasons. Just look at Rice's wife who lied and tried to do her best to stand by the POS to minimize his suspension, without the new tape she would have gotten away with it.

Precisely, even if you don't see the second video, how did she get knocked out in the first. He slapped her on the cheek. Why did it take TMZ and the liberal media outcry to have real action taken. Because Goodell panders to that. Then he comes up with a bonehead policy which will paint him in a corner. Cause with the way these dudes cheat on their spouses and girlfriends, some will be playing the revenge card for sure.

I bet Goodell had something to do with the video getting out. He looked like the wussy that he is for only two games up to now. So, he gets the video out, makes sure RR is gone for good, and the stink of being stupid is off of him.

You have to know that he saw the video before now, so he could be the leaker of the video.

If only TMZ had copies of the cheatriots tapes .......

He's just so all over the map with how he handles things. He runs his office like his refs officiate, inconsistent and without rational explanation.

What? He's lucky he isn't in jail. He got off easy. You get caught on film knocking out a woman like that and see how it works out for you.

What? Ray Rice and his family already have more money than most people will earn in a lifetime.

This applies to ANY battered woman, no matter her husband's income or profession. Many victims are afraid to leave their abuser for financial reasons. It already happens, so I don't think the NFL policy will change it for the worse.

That's already the case to some degree, and somewhat unavoidable. Most of these players' wives do not press charges, very few of these cases are prosecuted. I'm sure it was not Janay Palmer who reported this incident. At least they know if they ARE caught, there are going to be major consequences. I tend to think the deterrent factor is stronger than the risk. These players have to know an incident like this means possibly losing everything. Slaps on the wrist aren't going to curb this problem.

But will Ray Rice get a statue?

I've seen no reason to think that the Ravens knew about the video.

So, the question for today is: Will the owners fire Goodell? He knew about the video and turned a blind eye. He is obviously trying to save face now by saying he didn't see it. Seeing the video is irrelevant when you know the police have it.

If the owners have the balls, when does the hammer come down? I hope they do have the balls and I hope he is gone this week.

I don't know why the Ravens or NFL needed a video. When it happened, I knew he knocked her unconscious in the elevator. Didn't everyone? It was handled this way since he's a "good guy" and it would go away. He apologized, she apologized, he got a 2-game slap on the wrist and the floor is swept clean. Ha, wrong! I hope that Goodell is forced to resign. This goes back to Ben, Spygate, etc. Goodell makes the rules as he goes and it's not right he is judge and jury. He has too much power and it shows. There is no consistency.

I was thinking that the NFL will have teams wear purple instead of pink (purple is the color of the domestic violence awareness ribbon), then I thought how ironic it is that it is also the Ravens' color, so maybe they won't.

Olbermann had a GREAT rant last night on his show. He called for Goodell, Pasch, and several others to go... Will be interesting to see what ESPN does now, since they are the NFL's little *****.

As several others have said, this wasn't a "strong" or "brave" move by the Ravens. This is leading from the back. They hoped against all hope that the elevator footage wouldn't come out and it did. They did the only thing they could do.

You're missing the point. The owners don't feel any heat from this situation (well, 31 out of 32 owners don't). By terminating Rice's contract and pretending like they'd never seen the video before, the Ravens can say they've taken a hard line. Goodell has already laid the smack down in reaction to the video going public, so he's made the necessary token gesture to not appear soft on the issue.

The fans seem to universally hate Roger Goodell, but he has done nothing but good for the owners, and they aren't likely to be in a hurry to try and find a new person that they can trust the way they trust Roger.

If there was a video of rayray stabbing those people to death, he might have went to jail. After big ben got in trouble, I started videotaping all of my sexual encounters, just to be on the safe side.

**** does actually SEEING him punch her out change? we all knew what happened. only now people can see it. it's bullshit.

The Saints would like to have a word...

so would the Steelers, Ravens, Rams, Panthers, Eagles, Jets, Dolphins, Bills...anybody I missed on that Spy Gate thing?

For me, it was seeing the TWO videos in succession. But really, it is the incompetence at every level that gets under my skin.

Yes, we all knew that something very bad happened inside the walls of that elevator. We all knew that 2 games was not enough punishment for Rice. We also knew that there is something terribly wrong with a man who
DRAGS his unconscious fiance' out of an elevator and down a hallway. ...BUT... there's also that little bit of mystery to it as well. Did she assault him? Did she hit her head after he pushed her or slapped her? We didn't
know with 100% certainty what actually happened...we just knew it was bad.

The release of this video and seeing not only that he hit her with his fist, but doing so seemingly unprovoked...and a complete disregard for her well-being after the fact...that's what really got me. Again, you knew, but you didn't REALLY know.
Now we REALLY know. I think that's the difference.

Now, Rice has been "punished" but the bigger problem is at the executive level of the NFL, the Baltimore Ravens and judicial system. They ALL screwed this up...or they covered it up. EITHER WAY, heads have to roll...and Goodell should be first in line.

The owners don't care about any of that ****, not even the owners of the Saints, the Steelers, Ravens, Rams, Panthers, Eagles.... etc. Under Goodell's tenure as NFL Commissioner, revenues and profits are at all-time highs. The ONLY way this could fall out such that Roger's job is in jeopardy is if millions of people stop going to NFL games and buying NFL merchandise, eating into the owners' bottom line. History suggests that that won't happen - it didn't happen for any of the previous reputational crises, and it won't happen now.
