Dobbs, Davis Return, “Duck” Out

Why do we continue to bring players back that were not good enough to stay and not good enough that other teams as they let him go.

Because they have shown to fit the Steelers scheme in areas that were weak depth wise.

If you have two option C's and option Bs are now available for the right price you bring them in. Much better than saying **** it let us just stay with option C.

Dobbs can at least act like Jackson when they prepare to play the rats twice, no other QB on the roster could stamp that claim. Davis can be used in certain packages and strengthen the FS position behind Mink. Before Riley you had jack **** at FS depth wise and let us be honest Riley was obviously deemed expendable on how quickly the moved him to the PS. So depth improved.

Remember Davis and Dobbs had moments of ok not they are barn burners. Ok can be just that in comparison to the QB **** show that was witnessed last season.

They might have originally gave Duck the nod but after a close up look that viewpoint changed.

**** happens.

Don’t forget last year BGD...We had a great defense and the QB position cost us a season for the ages. Last year we all were screaming at the TV at the absolute worst QB’ing possibly of all time. All the time we put into him, he certainly could have done a better job than “The Duck” & “The Red Nosed Reindeer”.

If Ben has a set back, we had nothing behind him. Until “The Red Nosed Reindeer” shows he isn’t a sack waiting to happen, something had to be done.

Last year, Rudolph did adequate in his 2 ND year. Then we took a QB ROOKIE, from a. Small school,. D3?. And he started at least 3 NFL games. I know what Ben can do. I know what any rookie can't do, and shouldn't be able to do. Duck did fine. Not great. But for a rookie udfa small school, he did great. Dobbs has made one great pass and he can run. Yes Omar I agree he has the better arm.
Oh yeah, he didn't have a QB coach. But besides my excuse making for last year, there is more to this game that being smart, or really fast. Duck , to me is a better complete package than Dobbs .

Duck, Dobbs or Rudolph ---- does it really matter?

Once the HoF QB goes down, the season is a struggle, the though of a playoff win almost gone. So why bother agruing who is #3 or #4?

Eli Manning is available as a b/u.

im merely backing up his play vs dobbs whom they brought in. Idc about his abilty to emulate Jackson. I think the kid did well and earned his place and beat out a former #1 qb pick.

Because the Steelers have traditionally over-valued players who "know the system". Look what happened last year when they traded for Minkah Fitzpatrick around about week 2 and he hadn't been in our training camp and didn't know our system.

Dont worry Minkah will come down to earth now that out coaches had a chance to ruin him. Dobbs had what 3 yrs in the system and was alright. If you compare how Dobbs looked in his first year vs Duck I think Duck looked much better and he was thrown into the fire. Duck really did struggle down the stretch, but i think he deserved another year. With no preseason though it would be tough to see what kinda strides he made. Regardless if we are down to QB#3 we are in a world of hurt. I think Davis could be good as a backup / package hybrid player. I like that pickup better than getting Dobbs back.

On a side note can someone tell me how nate peterman has a backup job? He barely completes 50% of his passes, has 3 TDs to 12 ints, and I have not seen any flashes of potential.

They brought Dobbs back to be Jackson 2.0 during practice. Ida rather kept Duck at #3. I saw enough of Dobbs when he went in against da Raidas 2 years ago.

I like the fact we traded Dobbs for a draft pick and picked him up for nothing. Not that Dobbs is very good, he struggles to move the chains and throws too many picks.

It looks like the Steelers will give Rudy a chance to play if Ben is out.

In Davis' case, it wasnt that he wasnt good enough to stay. He priced himself out of what we were willing to pay. I have no problem with Davis.
As for Dobbs, being a Vols fan, I've seen some progress, then regression since he was drafted. At times he looks ok ... then he looks lost. He's certainly not a dumbass. Maybe we brought him back to raise our overall GPA so we look better for the NFLPA?

The kid was doing fine until Earl Thomas purposely went after his head...the rat *******...

after that Rudy looked like a sitting duck back there...

in fact..his head was so scrambled after that he lost his job to an actual duck!
what a mess last year was!

How about Jim Miller?

Mils wasn’t a bad QB. Just had the injury bug during his rookie camp and was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Chin’s offensive philosophy ground game/ball control, combined with defense sort of undermined his 1st start. I remember when Cowher started Tomczak in his place the next game, citing players were still “defining roles” for themselves. A astute statement to allow an experienced QB to tone down the uncertainty that the local media was throwing.

Miller went on to start for the Bears a couple years later and got them to the playoffs one year with best record in the NFC. But he was injured several times including when Hugh Douglas absolutely destroyed his shoulder on a hit. Plus the fact he got suspended for taking an OTC supplement that had nandrolone in it, didn’t help solidify his availability. I’m not sure but I think he was the NFL’s first QB to be suspended games for banned substances.

He had to retire after 6-7 years in the league due to hip problems and had double hip replacement in his late 30s.

FrankenKent has to be the front runner..no question. Worst FA acquisition in the Donahoe/Cowher legacy (yes worse than Donnell Woolford).

I don't give a **** what Jim Miller did for the Bears. The discussion was about the worst starting Steelers quarterback in recent memory. Miller started one game for Pittsburgh, got pulled after 3 quarters after throwing for 83 yards, and never started again. The defense didn't "sort of undermine" anything; the score was 14-9 when he was yanked.

Sure, Graham stank, but at least he lasted five games as a starter, and managed to win two of those by not throwing an interception in 143 attempts.

as far as past QBs go Bubby Brister sucked, but I always loved the guy.

That reminds me of this hit... (go to the :56 mark). Mike might still be feeling the effects to this day...

Didn't knock him out of the game completely though showed some toughness there............
