Could we be 8-8 again?

I would look to trade for a pass rusher. We can't seem to land one in the draft.

Besides **** canning Tomlin (they won't) and **** canning Butler (they probably will) they need to make bringing in a quality pass rusher priority number one.

And I am not sure what is going on inside but the run D needs something........ maybe a solid NT...........

What you got to say now? Uh huh.

About what? The loss? I was optimistic with Claiborne out, but not surprised Dallas won. Dallas was 7-1 and is a well balanced team. Prescott is set up to succeed. Our Offense produced, but the defense is giving up too many big plays and penalties. It is what it is, lack of execution and focus. Plenty of blame to go around. I do say Bryant pushes off more than any receiver in the game. No calls on both sides, the officiating is becoming atrocious. I would have said it even if we have won the game as well.

You crazy, man, you crazy ... Jarvis Jones, Ryan Shazier, Arthur Moats, that guy Chickillo. Those guys are crazy-good at rushing the passer!!

I don't know how we do this honestly. While we might have a little extra cap room this coming off season other teams have 3 , 4 , 5 time more room than use. Pass rushers are a premium. They will get offered more $$$ we can offer them. Probably will be drafting one again this off season....and in the middle rounds again it looks.

they were projected to have what 20 mil?

then you restructure some contracts and bring in a upgrade

they could do it, but probably won't.

More to do with that usually isn't their way, than IMO not being able to afford it.

sigh

Didn't Cope point out the figures that the cap gains will be closer to 30 million?

I think so. Giants overhauled their D...really what is needed here. And a new coach too. But the only chance probably will be Butler shown the door.

I'm sold on the team needs a solid NT

8-8? At this point, 6-10 is a very high probability.

Look at the bright side......at least we have The Walking Dead and Trump.

I don't know...if the Steelers don't bounce back and beat the Cowboys tomorrow, I can see the wheels coming off this thing, and even 8-8 might be a stretch.

No gimmes on the schedule, except for the Browns (at least they should be gimmes): @ Colts, Giants, @ Bills, @ Bengals, Ravens. Any of those games could go either way, and God help us all if the Browns are able to prevent a winless season by upsetting the Steelers.

You must be joking. Tomlin's teams never loose to lowly teams like the Browns. Tomlin's teams are always well prepared and focus to beat the hell out of these ****** teams......

I'm sure they'll achieve just enough to keep the status quo.

Tomlin easily loses to the giants, browns, ravens, colts and bills. Thats 5 more losses. No playoffs. Tomlin sucks. Time to rebuild starting with the head coach.

We all know a Tomlin team can lose to ANY team, no mater how ******. But I wouldn't assume they "easily" lose to Cleveland and Ravens. But, is it likely they lose at least 3 more? Easily. That would mean 3 out of the last 5 seasons of a non-winning record. (I know there are some "math challenged" folks out there, but look for yourself: If we go 8-8 or worse, that will make 3 out of 5 seasons without a winning record.)

2012: 8-8
2013: 8-8
2014: 11-5
2015: 10-6
2016: 4-5 with 4 out of the next 5 games on the road, @Cle, @Colts, NYG, @Bills, @Bengals, Ravens, Browns. You don't think it's likely they lose 3 more?

Tomlin is inferior. It is becoming glaringly obvious he is in over his head. When your franchise QB starts publically stating the team lacks discipline, accountability and urgency, that is a clear sign the head coach ain't getting it done.

A loss to the 0-10 Browns would pretty much take the cake, though. And sadly, it's not that far from becoming a reality, in my opinion, depending on who Cleveland's idiot coach decides to play at quarterback.

I hear you. We have two games against the Browns and it's quite possible that the Steelers would lay an egg in one of those games.

This week we play a losing team on the road. What could possibly go wrong?

Yes preach your agenda, and how you assemble numerical data displays it. You could describe it in your context or like this...

If we go 8-8 or worse, then it would mean 3 out of the last 5 seasons we had a non-losing record, which last occurred in 2013; or one losing season which last occurred in 2003.

You want to play on words...(I know there are some "math challenged" folks out there, but look for yourself: If we go 8-8 or worse, that will make 3 out of 5 seasons without a winning record.)

But to look at W/L records or more importantly playoff records you have this:

Until this year, which after Cam's injuries, may well indeed be a losing record, it will be the first one under Tomlin. It will also be the first time we haven't been to the playoffs since 2013. In fact, we've only missed the playoffs 4 times in 14 years (2 with Cowher, 2 with Tomlin). The last two seasons were winning records 11-5, 10-6 respectively and a trip to the playoffs. Tomlin's team hasn't gotten it done and won a championship that's a fact, but neither has the majority of the other 31 coaches. The team you appear to favor above all others have won the same amount of championships since 2007 as the Steelers but have loss more. But we know you won't say a terse thing about that franchise..

all I see when I read this is "mediocrity is okay because it means we're not bad". This is not how successful entities reach high levels of success and achievement, it is an inadequate mindset.

Sure, it can be called mediocrity, but is also what it is and it applies to all the teams. ALL OF THEM. The League has gone out of its way to promote parity. Something Pete Rozelle dreamed of during the Steelers, Cowboys, Raiders, and 49ers dynasties. Under Tags, and now Goodell, scoring, scoring and more scoring has been the defining goal to allow parity. Rules have been changed constantly in the offense favor, and as a result IMO it's been the biggest reason for the decrease in the product. Officiating has declined because all the rules that are being implemented. For the betterment of the game? Heck no, to prevent litigation from attorneys savoring a big payday. There is not enough time allowed to practice during the offseason and definitely not during training camps. The core requirement of playing the game is being reduced to its worse level of execution, tackling, blocking in the history of the sport. Everything is conditioning nowadays. There is a difference in being in shape and in "football" shape.

I was just stating the data and why they are. Besides the winning percentage of NE, which is padded because of their division amongst other things that has been chronicled, there are maybe 5 or 6 teams who have mirrored what Pittsburgh has done.

Am I satisfied with this team's product? Absolutely not, and won't be until we can win more Lombardies. But I also understand that there are other teams who are wanting it just as bad and are in worse situations year in and year out too. I know there are plenty of teams that say we just want to get in the playoffs. We always have said, going back to Chuck "we go in expecting to win a championship" regardless of what the team make up is.
