Bye Haley, but how can MT say the defensive staff are all safe?

From the sound of things:

Cowher/Colbert: drafted guys to fit the Steelers system.
Tomlin/Colbert: drafting speedier/athletic guys who don't fit the mold defensively.

Offensive guys are thriving.
Defensive guys have flashes but do not progress

Jarvis Dupree,

I would like to see football players drafted not athletes. Look at guys like Brown, Ward, Montana. None of these guys are the tallest, fastest, biggest arm etc etc, but they have/had amazing football ability. Even guys like farrior and Foote. I know they got bashed on here at times, but i would take a guy like that in a heartbeat right now. We need to get back to the blue collar guys who love football not guys who are athletic punks.

VERY good anology there Mr. And thank you.

I don’t get all the hate for Peezy on this board. He brings (or tries to bring) a certain attitude on defense that I like. He makes plays from the sidelines (see Bengals game). I only wish he’d start walking through other teams’ pre-game warm ups again starting ****, LOL.

As far as I can tell from the couch, we could do worse. I also give him credit for staying with us in an era when “it’s just business” and there is no team loyalty.

Getting rid of him would be the proverbial “throwing the baby out with the bath water.” JMO

That certain attitude that you like is the same one that Tomlin likes. It's the same one that gets abused by real coaches who teach technique and discipline.

He's been our OLB coach since 2015

I can't think of a single OLB on the roster that has made strides in his development since then. That's why I'm not thrilled with his performance. Unless you want to believe Dupree, Watt (yes I said it), Chickillo, all the guys we've had since then, are talentless and he's not to blame

I've never been into the fire Tomlin crowd. However; if I were the Arty Jr and Colbert I would seriously consider this action. If the defense gets gashed this next season I would seriously consider canning Tomlin for failing to fix the inefficiencies on the defensive side of the ball. He (Tomlin) needs to go out of the good ol' boy Steeler club and bring in a good defensive coordinator who can possibly get the potential out of Dupree, find a good replacement for Mitchell and stop the bleeding from the other team's ground game. It's great to have an offense that can hang 30-42 points on the board for a win. It isn't so great when you have a defense that keeps the other team in the game to win.
