Bryant's upside in 2017?

I do think it’s fair to see both sides of the equation on this one. It goes without saying that Bryant hurt the team, and Roethlisberger is the leader of that team. Yet the wide receiver is also an adult, not a child, and doesn’t need to be publicly scolded as though he were.

More importantly, he has his own life to live, complete with its own problems, and he prefers to retain a degree of privacy. I think that was the most notable piece from Dan Graziano’s article on the subject that surfaced last night.

From the other link from Steelers Depot link above. I can totally understand that.

Winning the SB is the goal every year. We have had many issues with some major players on our team. **** them if their feelings get hurt by Ben or someone else calling them out. Hopefully Ben is calling them out in the locker room...the problem I see is that the players just care about themselves and not TEAM. The TEAM concept goes a long way.

The difference IMO is this..when Ben was going thru his issues he was also called out by Joey Porter. The difference is this was not known until Bruce Arians revealed it in his book.

I'm guessing 65-1100-11TD. Maybe a pro bowl trip off that.

Much more reasonable a guess, I'd say. I'd quibble that, in order for him to increase his catch %, he would be getting passes that are less likely to be broken for a TD and would lower his ypc and TD's, but your guess is not unreasonable.

pretty close to my guesstimation

I think that is where he has the potential to end up...around those numbers....I could see him getting a lot less or a little more. The guy has been away from football for a year. Hopefully Coach is right though. ..I just think expecting him to do what only 2 others have ever done before is just expecting a bit to much.

Bryant can complain all he wants about Ben. But one thing is for certain. He has not failed a drug test since that statement.

Or the one year suspension followed by an indefinite one might have delivered it. My concern is that I think the kid is self medicating for other problems. Hopefully those things are being dealt with too.

He can't be self medicating currently, least ways with an illegal substance or he wouldn'T have been reinstated. I agree your statement would hold true in the past but currently Bryant is clean and improved. Now he just has to prove it day in and day out.

I personally think the cat should STFU and just deal with anything he didn't care for. We had a whole ******* year of not caring for his suspension and had to deal with the results.

And a lot more important than anything I think, the team had to deal with the loss. Which was a significant one.

That is my way of looking at it

Bryant NEEDS to read this, like it or not as it is BIG truth.

I think my point is two fold. One being called out by Ben didnt get him sober. The thought if losing the nfl permenant did. And though I agree that he is clean now if he hasnt fully dealt with the underlying causes of his weed dependance he will inevitably fall back.

As the leader of the team, Ben did absolutely nothing wrong. Bryant needs to apologize to the team, including Ben. He needs to take any constructive criticism his teammates may send his way. And, he still needs to prove himself. Even if he stays clean this year, I still wouldn't say the team should have anywhere near 100% faith in him. He needs to prove himself for the rest of his career. He is at the bottom of the barrel.

That is the catch here in my opinion. After his 4 week suspension he said he took care of everything...then gets hit for another test failure...if he has **** going on in his life that he can not cope with without smoking then maybe he needs to step aside from the game and get his life straighten out. Maybe this year suspension did just that but he shouldn't be upset with anything that was said in my opinion. He said he took care of everything after the first suspension and everyone had his back. Accepted him back with open arms. In the end he apparently didn't have it all worked out like he said. He just said all the things everyone wanted to hear. They took him at his word. What did he expect the second time around? A cake welcoming him back?

Bryant said him and Ben have some **** to work out as men. And if they cant one guy throws the ball to the other guy who runs his route and catches it. Simple as that and I got no problem with that statement. Im really viewing Bryant as Plaxico Burress 2.0. Is what it is. Get what you can out of him while he is here.

I just think Bryant won't have a monster season. 60 catches? Sure. 1000 yrds? sure. 10 tds? Maybe. Do I hope he has the season Coach think he might have? Tough question. As someone posted early in the thread. The only way he possibly could have that type of season is if AB goes down early. He is a complimentary WR to AB. You only can throw the ball deep so many times and it seems when the ball hit its mark with Bryant it always was a 50/50 chance of him bringing it in...of course the juggs machine has made him the best catching WR in the game....only if it was that easy.

With AB on the opposite side, that would be an excellent season from Bryant.

I dont care about any one players numbers. The more diverse the attack the more difficult to defend. I gotta feeling JUJU is getting his too. If Brown and Bryant eclipse 1000 and JUJU and Rogers get over a 1000 between them, that is pretty tough to stop right there.

ABSOLUTELY right as I'm hoping he got his "off field" problem(s) figured out. His working out / dedication / new baby / etc could be proof he has accomplished at least some in that respect. As of him wanting an appology or something of that nature........ HHaaha don't deserve one. The PLAYERS who played and the LEADERs who lead are owed an appology by him (Bryant). These last several post(s) sum it up quite well. !!!!!!!!!!!

from a production standpoint I look at these things:

not being in game situations how will your timing be? will you be on the same page with Ben early out of the gates? As we need you to be just that. As this team needs to stack W's early for the hope of home field advantage.

that extra muscle yinz packed on? not that it will affect his speed. As I think he still worked on that aspect of his game. But what about route running, will he be as fluid in and out of his breaks? or ill he be a little bit stiff?

few questions which might be minor to some. But perhaps a few things to look at in training camp.............

Ben is not a natural leader. I give him credit for trying and generally succeeding and doing a lot of maturing, but he still has his awkward moments when he's trying to do that team leader stuff.

I can't imagine how "BIG" this thread would get if Bryant was only 5ft 2 inches tall.......................

Huge positive about Bryant being back is that he will get a FULL training camp to polish his timing & cut(s) in and out of routes. I think he will be fine in both regards with the cutting needing refined, similar to what he was prior to suspension. In any event having a legitamite #2 along AB is a plus all the way around. I'm glad he is back regardless of the little BS stuff that needs to be dealt with.

If I'm the OC, Bryant who is now 230 pounds runs some TE routes...the ones Green ran. No linebacker or safety in the game can cover him. And he gets his share of screens, quick slants and quick outs. Mix it up with him and Brown, it will make us harder to defend.

With his size and speeds, DB's are going to show him RESPECT. So some curls, comebacks or quick outs with that cushion to get an easy 5-7 yards before contact sounds nice too.

You might feel comfortable with throwing quick screens to him but I'm not. One every now and then to keep the defense honest sure. . And if I'm the OC I go with the proven WR who has done it for the last 5 or so seasons....not the guy who has missed all but a season and a half over the last 2 years....you know...the guy who has proven he is the best in the game....by doing it game in and game out. Not by gaining few pounds of muscle and playing with the jug machines. Either way hopefully it all works out and they bring home another ring this season.

So he is going to line up inside or next to the OT?? And why would opposing coaches assign anyone but a DB on him no matter where he lines up?

I don't think it's quite that simplified. I get both coache's and YOUR points but if I was a OC, I would be willing to "test the market" occasionally. AB is all world but occasionally you have to go somewhere else. Bryant should be able to win the one on one match up against most DBs. If we can get teams to maybe cheat a little on MB because of line up implications then that may free AB up just enough...... Either way as an OC I'm willing to try both and see where it leads....... Would be a fool not to.
