Last week, The Freak Show with Mikey and Big Bob, the local morning show on 96.1 Kiss FM, had a heated discussion with Pittsburghers, which resulted in the question: What are the actual Steelers colors: Black and Yellow or Black and Gold?
Due to the recent popularity and association with the Wiz Khalifa song, "Black and Yellow," many Burghers called the show in anger of the song's association with the Steelers because they believe the true colors of the Steelers are Black and Gold, not Black and Yellow.
I pondered this question that morning and thought that I needed to get down to the bottom of this on-air color brawl. So, of course, I went to the local experts, PPG Pittsburgh Paints.
Steve Shorthouse, Color Marketing Manager for PPG Pittsburgh Paints told me that after comparing the "gold" Pantone color of the official Steelers' logo to the PPG Pittsburgh Paints swatches, the PPG paint color most closely matching the official Steelers' logo is called "Fall Gold #117-7."
So there you have it Pittsburgh, gold. In my opinion, if you call the Steelers the Black and Gold or the Black and Yellow, it doesn't make a difference to me. Because, we are all still cheering for the same team.
