Needed Neck Fusion. Ever seen a more nothing thing happen on that play? Guy jumped to block pass wrenched his neck on the way down. Not saying its not real or he's soft. Just wow. Crazy how the human body is. Like Im sure things happened to him 20 times worse looking. That was nothing.

professional athletes in their prime have thrown their backs out reaching for an item in the backseat.

The neck and back don’t give a crap, they are fragile…for the athletes with way too much mass for their frame I’m actually surprised they aren’t more prevalent. Jones likely had a knee or both that weren’t prepared for turf contact, happens when your in the air and become off balance.

Definitely wouldn’t call him soft, surely he ain’t faking an injury that has been a career ender for some athletes. He had a serious surgery linking two vertebrae back together and by all reports is progressing well (allegedly ready for training camp). You don’t fake that

IT WAS REAL…to even think he would try to fake an injury like that and go through fusion surgery would simply be a ridiculous thought.

Will he be the same? Remains to be seen
Can he reach his ceiling? Gonna be harder now
Not like he hasn’t seen his share of challenges already. This one will be a big challenge though.

I clearly stated he isn't soft. Just that it was a real freak injury. If you think about pro wrestling, someting similar must happen all the time in terms of getting your neck drenched.

Watch that replay again... the guy jumped up, landed on Jones head, then wrapped his arm around his neck and twisted him to the ground as he was going down... that wasnt a nothing thing.. twisting your neck like that is extremely dangerous...

Bottom line is first and foremost I hope the kid is well enough to continue a regular life if his football world is closed.

I also hope he revitalizes his career in a positive way and able quit on his terms when it’s time.

Salute the nation

I just watched it again. Im not saying its nothing. Im saying its a freak injury. Guys leap at field goals like that all the time and guys get yanked down. I mean we've all seen guys running full speed and go from 60-0 instantly on face masks that look like they might rip the guys head off.

Pretty sure this is what Manning had done that caused him to miss his last year plus in indy. He was out a very long time...

Is it worth the risk to return back to the NFL? With this type of injury?

1. I pray this young man has a healthy future. He seems like a nice, goofy kid.
2. I doubt he'll ever play at the level we all need him to play at.
3. I'm not certain he ever played at that level or ever would.
4. Depending on how things fall there will likely be a future starting LT available at 21.
5. I hope we take him and move on from Mr. Jones. Hard to say with how we've drafted the last few years.

You said and I quote “Not saying it’s not real or he’s soft” that is a far cry from clearly stating “he isn’t soft”... not saying, just saying…why even throw crap like that out there???

You saying “Not saying…” is not the same as making a proclamation of anything…unless Canadian’s have different usage of language it’s no proclamation at all but just a very passive way of questioning the man.

Why would you even put into question if he’s soft which in the American vernacular the way you stated it is exactly how that would be perceived by many. “Not saying” generally means: just throwing this out there to see if it sticks basically but taking no accountability to what you’re throwing out there…one of the most soft passive aggressive ways to try to make something out of nothing.

It was a freak injury and no damn way a pro athlete is faking something like that, so why even say a statement like that? Unless you’re trying to make him faking or being soft a talking point?

I’m not saying Shazier was faking it or he’s soft.
See sounds pretty stupid eh???

Both freak injuries…**** happens, it’s a contact sport some walk away from, others don’t

I’ll say it clearly: He ain’t soft and definitely was not faking anything. It was a freak injury just like Shazier.

He’d piss pound 99.9% of SN posters into the turf before he even broke a sweat…that’s with a fused neck

That's dicked. He's a huge player. He plays his heart out. He just isn't skilled enough. Period. He didn't fake the injury. He isnt soft in the least. However, the human body is a funny thing. Comparatively that was nothing. But it was a career changer. Hopefully not ender.

I feel like a lot of you do not get the concept. Here. Yes. His neck was severely injured. Yes he had neck fusion surgery. Im saying the dude jumped up to block a pass and caught him awkwardly. You could do that 100 times and not get the same result. Compared to Shazier that is laughable. Shazier much like Polamalu tackled with reckless abandon. You could see his vertebrae compress on that hit. Watch soneone pile drive someone in pro wrestling and tell me how that isn't 10x more dangerous then the play with Jones.

So....overlooking a somewhat ridiculous argument over Jones' 'toughness', what this injury tells me is that alternative options need to be explored, even on just a precautionary scale.

That #21 pick looks about right, or #53. In fact, our first 2 picks could be used comfortably to solidify the OL for years to come. I don't think the Steelers can count on Cook being the answer. Not to say he couldn't be, but I don't think you can just rely on it.

There are some decent early round options at OT. Once you hit Round 3 they start to look at little shaky. OG is definitely in play early too.

In the end, better OL play helps whoever plays QB & the running game. Can't be a bad option.

Or pray that Dylan Cook can walk on water for seventeen games. Fano and Mauioga will be gone. Proctor is 50/50. I’ve always enjoyed Utah football, so, caught a bit of Fano. He seemed solid, started quite a while. This year, as a whole, I paid less attention to it, can’t comment much further.

Heads, necks, spines, there’s some weird and terrible stuff that can happen when you’re dealing with that central column. Apparently, he’s doing more and more. Whatever that means, I’m not certain. Hopefully, it doesn’t affect his quality of life.
