Broderick Jones Injury

They have to decide whether pick up his 5th year option by 5/1. That would be a significant investment in an injured player. I'm not sure there's a really good option here. Maybe the team waits to see if a player falls in their laps during the draft before deciding. Guard has to be the #1 priority, but that can be addressed well in round 2. OT and G the draft order here? Man, the OL has just been a mess for way too long.
That's what I'm thinking, but with 7 OTs with a first round grade and only two guards, you most certainly are thinking Guard if one of the two drops to the Steelers. Address OT in the 2nd, and then build the CB, WR, and Safety depth in the third.

Definitely have thought the value vs need process out.

Value early ( in 1) looks like G, FS, WR, CB, and T.

Steelers biggest needs are arguably in no listed order: G, WR, QB, and FS.

I think it will come down to if they feel like moving up for a WR in 1. If not then they stand pat and get the best value at need which is probably WR, G or FS.

As the draft progresses you can add lesser tier needs: or maybe even future needs:

2 we can add T, NT, CB and ILBer into the fray.

3/4 we can add QB into the fray.

6 and 7 a returner somewhere in that time frame.

This is how I see it, perhaps they see it differently.

Solid assessment

I think the BPA value at their pick if they stand pat in the first might have DL or T added into that group. Could definitely see a trade up for a targeted player this year though.

There will be guards available in the 2-3 range with little falloff from a round 1 guy. While G is a huge need I see little chance of a G being BPA there.

Early BPA is always the best route imho if the goal is strengthening a roster for long term success. When a team becomes need dependent awful reaches happen

Oh definitely can never rule out trenches in 1 with Andy in the fold. I will not fault them for going BPA in general. Really is the best approach for a team if they can do it.

They're going to take OT a premium position with rd 1.. cook can move to guard so can Jones if need be. May 1 is jones option day? I'm not picking up his option if I'm omar.
I have guard options. As it stands cook is only tackle option and I have no swing tackle.

I think Cook is only valuable as a backup/swing tackle. He was a turnstile in the playoff game. If I was Rogers I would retire if Cook was the only thing protecting my blind side.

If there's ANY question as to whether Jones can be 100% (which had improved but was never great!) there's no way I pick up that option. And I draft the best LT available asap. And there are some good tackles after say pick 40, but most of them are projects or RTs or both. So, trades? Pick a LT at 21? That's my play.

The same Cook last being seen as an absolute turnstile?

Yikes

That can’t be the only option. He caught the positive vibes from SN that a camp darling always does when they are exceeding expectations (his early games)….but reality set in as film on him was out there and he faced better competition and he was shown to be backup caliber.

Not saying he can’t improve but he should be depth on a decent OL

I read an article (no link) about Roman Wilson. It talked about how if he wants to get a better opportunity to remain with the team, he needs to take up special teams. The return role may be his forte and diversity needed to stick. Also could be a way to work onto the field with more WR snaps.

I realize he is a hidden horse to this point, but I think all stones need to be turned to try and utilize the draft pick used on him. Maybe we find something. I also hope like hella he is studying that play book and comes out to prove the Tomlinships Coaching staff they were wrong.

Could sure help the team should he find his fruit taste.

Salute the nation

With the 21st pick in the 2026 NFL draft the Pittsburgh Steelers select...

Outside of QB more or less Alabama is a better choice.

Or, hear me out -- step up and draft from a real conference...

If so they should be looking at my latest mockng at a OT rnd 1-2
my latest mock Lemon if he is there if not trade a few spots and take if not safe at
21 DT Mcdonald Ohio ST
53 OT Dunker Iowa
82 S Ramsey USC
85 WR Hurst Geargia ST
99 QB Allar/Barham LB/Edge Pewnn ST/ Michihgan
rnd 4 QB Green Arkansas

Looking at the LT and LG prospects likely to be available in the second round, I think LT will be a lot thinner than LG by the time pick 53 comes around. A few of those first round grade OT's are Right Tackles and one or two are projected to move to guard in the NFL. The genuine LT prospects are very likely to be drafted in the first round. There are more solid left guard prospects than LT prospects projected as mid-late second rounders.

We also found a pretty good guard from a non-P5 school on day 3 a couple of years ago.

If you look at the top OL prospects this year (say Rds 1-3), there are far more OTs projected to move inside as OGs than usual. A lot even talk about Fano, Mauigoa, and Proctor moving inside, with Freeling perhaps being the truest LOT prospect available and worthy of a high pick. Many of the OTs this year are very "short-armed".

Ioane, however, is a true LG prospect and seen by many as the best since Quentin Nelson (#6 overall). He has true future All-Pro potential, and would solve that spot immediately. I don't believe in forcing what isn't there.

Travis Burke with our 4 or 5 and have our new OL coaches try to develop him--massive human with decent athleticism. This would be his "redshirt" year (remember for OL, 8 get helmets, 9 or 10 on 53).

Your most important position on the Offensive line is in flux.

Fused Spine broderick jones will be in awesome shape when he comes back ??? really? He already wasnt great.

Cook had a few good games in relief. UDFA. And if he goes down with an injury,,, who is going to pick up the rifle and stand guard ? You lieutenant wineberg? ?!!

These two Marines are on trial for their lives. Please tell me the Steelers havent pinned their hopes to a phone bill. Or A first round pick of an offensive guard.

Maybe they make a big trade for an established Tackle...

but go ahead and think theyre going to take a WR or a guard.

They probably will take a LT.

But- given how they like selecting from their Top 30 visits, not many early round OT's on that list.

Markel Bell in the 3rd is a big chance
