BIG FA signings/trades

Not a big signing, the Pats sign the overrated Sheard. Glad we took a pass.

Curious how Sheard is overrated? Considered a below-average pass-rusher, good run-stopper and capable in coverage. Part-time player for most teams that would have signed him.

5.5 mill is to much Sheard is at most a 4 year 14 mill type player.

PFF had him ranked as a top 20 Free agent.

He is a top 20 FA...as a 4-3 end. His first two years in Cleveland were his best when he was used in the 4-3. Not a bad player at all, just not a good player for a 3-4 OLB as witnessed by his last two years in the 3-4. Still a decent run stopper though.

The ones overrating him and placing him in the top 20 consider him more of a full time starter type and effective pass rusher, not just a "not bad player" in a limited role. Even for an ineffective Worilds he's no replacement.

Everyone was so worried about him not getting locked up because of losing Lewis, then they sign him, and everyone liked the deal. He has a bad year (much like Ike has had in the past) and all of a sudden it's a failed signing, typical of Tomlin and Colbert. Get real, enough with the revisionist 20/20 hindsight bullshit.

Allen still has A LOT of potential, and he's the type of player that will put in the work to get better. You don't give up on someone like that because of one year, that's what the Texans did and we ended up with McCain. That's how we got Farrior as well. Give Allen a shot at redemption before ushering him out the door. You can't teach his size/speed combo.

I get what your saying but I guess I get caught up in how bad we are in our defensive backfield and how Allen was pretty much benched for most of the season that the reaction is get rid of him, at least my reaction. Like someone pointed out he just got a 3 mil roster bonus so he isn't going anywhere so I hope your right and he bounces back. He is only 26 and after this year his contract is bearable for the next 3 year just under 6 mil each year. I hope with an improvement to the pass rush, an upgrade to the safety position and a fresh start for Allen this year will make people like me eat my words I have posted about cutting him. I guess sometimes I need a reminder to look before I jump....lol!

Excellent post and I have thought the same thing. This seemingly happens all the time with things the Steelers do, and some Steelers fans treat their decisions as damned if they do and damned if they don't. I understand as fans we will criticize but some fans act as if they could easily build a winning organization, and as Tom Hanks put it "Of course its hard. If it were easy everybody would do it, the hard.....is what makes it great." (Wonder who will get that reference lol) I think it's fine to disagree and criticize bad moves/decisions when it's realistic, but there is just a lot of unrealistic, straight cynical attacks against almost everything the Steelers do.

BTW I was never for the Jarvis Jones pick, so no, I'm not a Steelers rose colored glasses fan, but I do root for him to succeed. Yet I am realistic in the fact he hasn't shown the top 20 potential so far for where we chose him sadly.

I'll go on record to say I would have signed Sheard to that type of money. I think that's a good investment and signing by the Patriots considering all the other crazy **** going on out there. He'll find a roll for that team and produce.

Murray going to Philly with intent on signing with them. Not looking to bad McCoy gone add Matthews and DeMarco Murray.

I still don't understand these moves. He said in his press conference Wednesday that they traded McCoy because of his 12m cap hit, then trade Foles with his 1.5 cap hit for Bradford and his 12.9 cap hit. Now you're going to look at DeMarco Murray AND Ryan Matthews? Are they just stock piling injury prone players now?

Let's cross our fingers and hope Murray's contract isn't crazy.

That will greatly impact what we can get Le'veon Bell to agree to in a year or two.

Bell is going to cost us regardless of what Murray gets, but according to some on the board, we could just cut him loose and draft a replacement... no big deal.

And others think it doesn't matter what you pay players as long as they are ok players...

Cap will be higher in one or two years and we will have less dead money (see Woodley, LaMarr). Don't be afraid for us to pay the guys who have earned that pay day.

It certainly matters because we don't seem to have much cap space when FA starts. Not only that, they are the kings of restructuring existing and future contracts. I'm all for retaining our players, the good and deserving ones, but the contracts may be a tad too long and high. As far as Timmons and Pouncey, are they at market value for Pro Bowlers or are they overpaid? I'm not up on salaries and the going rate. Hopefully, Allen and Mitchell works out because if they don't, their salaries will be added to the scrap heap like Woodley's.

RT @HardyNFL: #Eagles and RB DeMarco Murray have reportedly agreed to a deal worth $6 million per year.

Surprising that the cowboys lose him for that money, I think he has easily earned that and is not crazy money

They also tagged dez right? There must be a lot of malcontent in that locker room

Overthecap.com has Timmons and Pouncey as the second highest paid at their position. I don't think either are good deals.

Eagles agreed to terms with RB DeMarco Murray on a five-year, $42 million contract.

The deal includes $21 million guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $8.4 million.

"Chip The Mad Scientist" will be the second biggest (i.e. most reported on) ESPN story during training camp. Number one will of course be the annual ESPN Patriots ball washing.

as i just saw it, Chip traded McCoy for Murray and Kiko Alonso
