You can probably get a good window into how smart or not this coaching staff is over the next three weeks. Under this construct. You are not risking Rodgers more then a couple series here and there. And almost certainly not in game one. He can work out kinks with receivers and running backs in practice and frankly if Jones is a bust and can't protect they are ****** anyhow ( he is the joker in all this) They moved him to left with maybe dumb intentions that he'd be better. He might just be a stiff. Rudy is a journeyman pro. He doesn't need a ton of work. If Rodgers gets hurt it will be what it is. Which gets me to my point. Other then shaking rust off which doesn't take much.........what really matters is figuring out if Will Howard might have IT. Because undoubtedly come next April you will be tasked with the number 20th ish pick deciding if they have to trade up, stay pat or not draft a Q at all. Based on the next three weeks. So you better have a good idea. Id get a look in game two with group one. For F'n sure. Bucs are a perfect opponent.

With Coach Tomlin’s history of RE-action and NOT———— PRO-action, I have a feeling we will be entering the draft blind.

Obviously, should there be injuries that dictate the on-field display of said Will Howard……….. then we will have better insight.

Salute the nation

I think that Howard should get the majority of pre-season reps. We know what Mason brings and we cant risk Rodgers getting hurt. Let will get tons of reps and see how it goes.

If the last 18 years has shown anything it is that this question has already been answered and it is that the coaching staff is very mediocre. A coaching staff will never be smarter than its HC and his intelligence/football acumen is very mediocre.

Anything that happens in preseason matters not, other than significant injuries. Everything else is 110% inconsequential.

Mike has even proven this very tidbit by showing some things that worked in preseason only to revert back to his 100% predictable proven past once the season starts.

Preseason is simply a time for players 50-60 to fight for those last 3 spots on the depth chart and avoid injuries…absolutely nothing more the way the Steelers approach it.

If Howard looks decent with 2s and 3s vs 2s and 3s that’s a positive, but in the grander scheme won’t really tell anything about his future.

I hope the hell they're either picking in the top 10 or near last to last. The hell with the carbon copy of a decade draft slot.

Agreed. But AR is 41 almost 42. He isn't moving all that much

There is running and maneuvering in the pocket. He is not outrunning to avoid sacks here but Im thinking he is still nimble enough and smart enough to allow himself time for release.

Point at bottom is my point. No reason to put him against 2s and 3s. Let's see what he does against ones. Especially in game two.

I want to see the kid play. Rudy is better than mitch was. Rogers is viewed by Tomlin as a winged god.

Let the kid take his lumps.

Exactly. It isnt sink or swim for the season here. But if you want to compare Will Howard to next year's crop.......what better possible opportunity are you going to get. Very unlikely the Steelers will be in the Manning kid range should he declare. Or likely not in the range of any of the more sure fire picks without a significant trade up. You will never get better film.
