A possible red flag on Durpee

Lol more like I multitask and type like $&^t Sue me!

A score of 10 means you cant read. Bud's first score was a 12. The difference between a 10 and a 12 could in fact mean he guessed correctly on the questions that offered multiple choices.

Coach I think everyone is being too hard on you. You are entitled to your opinion even if others disagree and the discussions make the place interesting. Hopefully your skin is thick enough to handle the flack. So now you can go ahead and post your IQ number to wow them with that.

Coach is that you???

LOU SKONT FROM SHORT PUMP, VA:
Do you think Bud Dupree will enter training camp as a safety on the off chance Ryan Shazier doesn't work out there?

Full disclosure: I looked at the city you listed in your emailed question and thought this might be some kind of plant, but since there actually is a Short Pump in Virginia - Google is quite dependable - I decided to answer your question with all the seriousness with which you submitted it. I'm think it's gonna be tight end for Dupree 15 minutes after the first practice in pads. Why be patient, right? Gotta take advantage of that 42 ½-inch vertical. Red zone threat. Throw it high!

Just playing don't get your panties in a bunch

I need new monitors now...

It's on several sites. What's noteworthy is Durpee took the test twice. His first score was a 12. For those who care here are the wonderlic Scores.

What I want to know is .... Who in the hell is this "Durpee" kid you keep talking about? Other than that, really, who cares about the Wonderlic besides you?

You asked for it

Lol

Well, the video explains it then. This guy "LOOKS" more like the guy that Coach is describing. I'm sure that his football intelligence really IS below the line.

http://harvardsportsanalysis.org/2014/04/wondering-about-the-wonderlic-does-it-predict-quarterback-performance/

The Wonderlic test is useless for predicting success at any position in the NFL, even QB. You know who does well on the Wonderlic test? I do. I rule it. I'm a geek. And you do not want me to be the QB of your team because I suck at playing QB.

I'd suck at QB as well. However, if that Wonderlic test on bleacher report is even half accurate you'd have to be a cave man not to score high on it. I didn't miss a one and most I could do just by reading the question once.

The Wonderlic is about time. They intentionally give you too many questions to answer in the allotted time. I believe it is 50 questions and they only give you 12 minutes. THAT is what is hard. Most people on the internet who claim they scored so high, have done so because they ignore the time. They may have spent an hour on it. It's super easy if you take your time

You have about 14 seconds per question. That includes the time to read the question and the choices. In some ways, it's a measure of how fast you can read more than intelligence.

Tape,

Consider the counterpoint.

Football is a game of quick mental reactions and the scouts said Dupree is a little slow in this department.

scouting report WEAKNESSES: Tall but not long. Wins with athleticism over skill at this point. Some scouts believe his instincts are below average, leading to hesitation. Will get caught taking bad angles to the ball. Needs to improve hand fighting. Still raw rushing the passer. Doesn't possess a go-to pass-rush move. Appears to lack urgency in-game.

In regards to the wonderlic, I think the very low scores ( like a 12 and 13 ) are a red flag. The game is more complicated these days and the Steelers coaches often say the defense takes a while to learn. Dupree does not look like a savvy player on film to me. He might become one. We'll see.

To clarify my thoughts on Dupree, I think he will be a solid #2 starter at OLB, but not a star player like Harrison, Porter, Greene, or Lloyd was. I like Dupree's run defense, and hitting ability to force fumbles. He's flexible and can stay on the field for 3-4, nickel, or dime. I think his pass rush is just all right. You might say I think he will be better than a healthy Worilds as a run defender, but not quite as good as a pass rusher. I say healthy because Worilds only started more than 11 games once in his career.

I do not think Dupree will bust Ziggy Hood did, or Jarvis Jones might. I also think there will be some hindsight on the pick as better pass rushers might have been selected later in rounds one and two ( Gregory, Ray, Orchard ). Did the Steelers get a trade offer to trade down? If so, what was it?!

There you have it.

coach, remember you fawning all over Drew Henson? how did that work out?
He scored a 40-*******-2 on the wonderlic. Seems he'd have lit the league on fire.

I remember liking Drew Brees and Pennington. At the time we had terrible QB's. I did think Henson was worth a shot in the 3rd / 4th round if memory serves. When you have had Tomzack_Stewart_MIller_Graham, why not! To think the Steelers were playoff teams with these jokers. Just shows how good of a coach Cowher was as the margin for error was thin with that passing offense.

I tend to think the very low scores hamper success and there could be a coloration to making bad decisions off the field. If Henson had a low score, it goes back to my point that the low scores are red flags.

interesting, since Brees nor Pennington were in the 2003 draft.
you know ... the same draft where you ripped on the size of Polamalu's cranium ... when Henson's forty-*******-two wonderlic netted his name called in the 6th round.

My point was I liked them ( Brees and Pennington ) in previous drafts. Henson's biggest problem was not his arm or athleticism. He played MLB baseball and the time away from football left him very rusty as a quarterback. I still think he was worth a shot in that draft based on who we had at the time, and his upside.

So basically Dupree will be a stud since the last time Coach got on a player he turned into a hall of famer. Carry on Coach

OH CRAP ... Coach was right ... Dupree is already missing time. He's going to miss Rookie mini-camp.

Because he's graduating from college ... Word is that rookie OLB tryout phenom Dud(ley) Durpee will be there though.

p.s. Chickillo will also miss mini-camp in order to graduate.
