A interesting situation next week

A few scenarios from ESPN's NFL playoff machine (this assumes a Green Bay win tonight and a Buffalo win Monday night). We are also going to assume that Baltimore beats Cincinnati, Tennessee beats Houston, and Indianapolis beats Jacksonville in Week 17.

Pittsburgh vs. Cleveland
Miami vs. Buffalo
Baltimore vs. Cincinnati
Indianapolis vs. Jacksonville
Tennessee vs Houston

2. Buffalo vs. 7. Miami
3. Steelers vs. 6. Indianapolis
4. Tennessee vs. 5. Baltimore

SCENARIO 2

Pittsburgh vs. Cleveland
Miami vs. Buffalo
Baltimore vs. Cincinnati
Indianapolis vs. Jacksonville
Tennessee vs Houston

2. Buffalo vs. 7. Indianapolis
3. Steelers vs. 6. Cleveland
4. Tennessee vs. 5. Baltimore

SCENARIO 3

Pittsburgh vs. Cleveland
Miami vs. Buffalo
Baltimore vs. Cincinnati
Indianapolis vs. Jacksonville
Tennessee vs Houston

2. Steelers vs. 7 Indianapolis
3. Buffalo vs. 6. Baltimore
4. Tennessee vs. 5. Miami

SCENARIO 4
Pittsburgh vs. Cleveland
Miami vs. Buffalo
Baltimore vs. Cincinnati
Indianapolis vs. Jacksonville
Tennessee vs Houston

2. Buffalo vs. 7. Cleveland
3. Steelers vs. 6. Ravens
4. Tennessee vs. 5. Miami

In any case, if the Steelers win in the first round they are almost certainly going to get a rematch against Buffalo in the second round. It's just a matter where we would play them. What's interesting is if you're looking for a team to knock off KC, Buffalo getting the No. 2 seed would be the better option because both Baltimore and Tennessee play the type of offense that could keep Mahomes off the field. Of course none of this will matter if the Steelers revert back to their offensive style that helped lead to a three-game losing streak.

The more I think about it, the less I'd be inclined to start Ben or any of the important players on O. We saw what cheap shot artists and dirty players the Browns can be last year; and there wasn't a playoff spot on the line. Just imagine the type of **** Garrett and the other goons would try to pull in a "win and you're in" scenario.

Steelers are playing the Ravens round 1. Worst possible scenario in the crazy year.

would be kinda sweet for Mason to get the start and get the win that puts CLE out.

If you don't want that to happen, root for an upset tomorrow night. That all but assures the Steelers avoiding the Ravens in the first round, unless Baltimore somehow loses to the Bengals.

Messing with the playoff machine, if the Browns beat us they're in the playoffs. No way around that.

Bills have to lose out and us win next week for us to reclaim the 2 seed. Bills play @NE tonight and MIA next week.

Interestingly, the Titans can lose out and the MIA and IND win next week and fall out of the playoffs. I thought they were closer to clinched than the Browns.

We can play a lot of different opponents. Browns, Colts, Dolphins, and Ravens are all on the table.

This can’t be right. If Buffalo loses one game, we can get the 2 seed with win in Cleveland. Buffalo has two games left.

True if Buffalo loses this week then wins next week we are the 2 with a win... if they lose both we are the 2 win or lose... as soon as this green bay game goes final the titans are eliminated from the 3 seed ....

yes he realized his error and others who have made the same point realized they were mistaken or they were just counting on the Steelers to rest everyone and lose to the stains

are you 100% sure on that?

I think if the bills lose out and the titans win next week, they get the #3 seed

You're right. Buffalo lost to Tennessee so if they both finish 11-5, Titans get the 3 seed.

If Buffalo loses either game the door is open for the two. But that said two or three does it matter.

I think Buffalo will play hard. They want respect and they still can fall down to the 4 seed. I don't think there's a huge difference between the 2 and 3 seed, which is why i think the steelers should rest players. But there's a big difference between the 2 seed playing the 7 and the 4 seed playing the 5 seed.

I also think Buffalo is going to destroy the Pats. The pats suck. Their offense sucks and they have no pass rush at all. Allen will have all day to throw and they don't have the LBs to stop him scrambling. Cam Newton puts more time into his wardrobe than the playbook.

Buffalo has been under the Pats thumb for so long I can't see them passing up the opportunity to curb stomp them and plant their flag on the pats rotting corpse.

Projecting a Bills win tonight. That puts us on a path to play the CovidRats again. Week 17 will change a lot but we can do no worse than 3 seed.

Yep, the juggernaut in the AFC is the Chiefs, as the 2nd or 3rd seed we won't see them until the AFCCG.

I was playing with the simulator. If the Bills win tonight, we have a greater chance to avoid Balt. in first round.

Honestly id rather face them than most other teams, but yeah that sounds exactly like what the Browns would have happen ... Drop two games that are vs the second worse team in the league and a bunch of backups led by a qb they wronged last season that ends their best season in over a decade so that They miss the playoffs with double digit wins while the nfc east champ wins with potentially double digit losses... lol

Thats so browns that I almost want to root for it to happen

The Chiefs are obviously very good and the team to beat in the NFL. They've also just won seven straight one-score games--average margin of victory during this time is 3.9 points. It's a beatable team for anyone in the AFC. They don't run the ball particularly well and Mahomes is prone to sacks. The problem is they are so explosive and can move 80 yards in 3 plays. Playing at their absolute best, I think the Bills, Steelers, Ravens, and Browns could all compete against the Chiefs. The Dolphins and Colts are the weakest potential playoff teams in the AFC.

I think Mahomes is going to be the best QB the league has ever seen, but the guy is at that phase where he believes the hype and forces a lot of balls... he has been excessively lucky on interceptions this year... he has thrown a bunch of balls that were dropped or called back on penalty in really significant moments... yesterday they should have lost on one...

Reid is a good coach who had a multidecade history of brain kerfuffles that sunk him in the post season before last year...

Yeah their passing o is great... their defense isn’t and they are totally beatable

Assuming the Bills win tonight, here are some likely scenarios and the Steeler opponent in round 1 of playoffs

Winners in week 17
Steelers/Bills/Ravens/Titans/Colts - Steelers #3 and play the Colts
Steelers/Fins/Ravens/Titans/Colts - Steelers #2 and play the Colts
Browns/Bills/Ravens/Titans/Colts - Steelers #3 and play the Browns
Browns/Fins/Ravens/Titans/Colts - Steelers #3 and play the Ravens
Steelers/Fins/Ravens/Titans/Colts - Steelers #2 and play the Colts
Steelers/Bills/Ravens/Titans/Jags - Steelers #3 and play the Fins
Steelers/Bills/Ravens/Texans/Colts - Steelers #3 and play the Titans
Browns/Bills/Ravens/Texans/colts - Steelers #3 and play the Browns
Browns/Bills/Ravens/Titans/Jags - Steelers #3 and play the Browns

There are other combinations but these seemed like the most likely to occur. I don't see the Ravens losing so that was the one constant in these scenarios. Titans probably don't lose to the Texans but I included a scenario or 2 where they did. It seems the Colts rematch is the most likely to occur.

Papillon

I start Rudolph and let him wing it. Fearful Fichctner ruined that guy last year, turned him into Captain Checkdown.

How sweet it would be for Rudolph to be the one that bounces the Browns and extends their post season drought. That would be sweet justice.

Ben would need to be the OC and let Rudolph unleash it. If RF is OC, we would lose outright! The game would be over by halftime!

Yeah they've won 7 games by 4 or less points i believe, I called them the juggernaut because that's how the media treats them.
I'm putting Sutton on Kelce all game if that happens

Not sure what you were playing with.

In your scenario, if the Steelers decide to rest players and lose to the Browns, Buffalo would have to beat Miami. Which is likely, yes, but not a given.

If the Patriots win tonight, then win or lose, Pittsburgh avoids Baltimore no matter what happens elsewhere in week 17 -- with the sole exception being the Ravens losing to Cincinnati.
