2016 NFL Draft

I'm not too disappointed. At least it was a CB and not another OLB. I figure Burns will be do-able.

Maybe not CB. I would have liked Spence, Billings, Nkemdiche, or Alexander. Or a trade down. Lots of other options that would have been more palatable to me.

Yeah but still!!! Lol. It's like that prize that you have hope for and *nope*

We needed an outside corner sooooooo bad. We got a guy with solid size & speed. He's an immediate starter in our secondary. I have no doubt about that. For the better or worse, we got a first round corner for the first time in a zillion years. Burns has all the tools to be the man. The Steelers had him ranked high enough to draft him with no hesitation. Good enough for me. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do.

This was TMC's analysis on Burns...

Artie Burns, CB, Miami-Burns is 5117, 193 pounds. I mentioned earlier that Burns compares to Bryant McFadden, who the Steelers had rated as a first round prospect, and I think he does. Similar size. Similar workout numbers. Similar style of play. Both players are not afraid to mix it up. Both guys are steady, consistent, but not flashy. When I watch the film of Burns, I see a player that just goes out down after down and plays with good position, does his job, and lines back up and does it again. I do not see a great deal of splash plays from Burns, but I do not see a ton of plays where he blows assignments or allows his receiver to just get away from him. Steady, consistent, reliable.

I wonder if it is a possibility, with the wildest stretch of the imagination, I know, that Denver didn't want to make a trade with the Steelers. Maybe the trade with Seattle was cheaper (probably unlikely ). Maybe they know the Steeless and Seattle don't want a QB and they would rather give an NFC team the pick than an AFC team that took them to the wire in a playoff game with the 31st rated defense and 3Rd and 4th string RB. Crazy, I know.

It just maybe that the Steelers already called Denver and they said. No, we already have a deal with Seattle.

Or, you know, Tombert left his phone in the car and couldn't hear it ringing. I guess that is the most likely when you hear it out loud.

Litos, what makes you think they had offers for the pick?

And more importantly, what makes you think they didn't have Burns rated this high to begin with?

1. just after our pick the seahawks trade down with the broncos, obviously there could have been a phone call for the steelers...if they would have waited three seconds at least
2. Ok he can be rated as a late first (which I didn't see from his tape but who the **** am I to say anything?) but he would have been there at 1.31, with so many blue chippers left and denver picking Lynch he or Alexander (or both would have been there.

- here are Alexander's numbers:
PRO DAY RESULTS
40-yard dash: 4.47 seconds
Vertical: 37 1/2 inches
Broad jump: 10 feet, 1 inch
Short shuttle: 4.21 seconds
3-cone: 7.18 seconds

- Here are Burns numbers:
PRO DAY RESULTS
Short shuttle: 4.3 seconds
3-cone: 6.96 seconds
Vertical: 33 inches
Broad: 10 feet, 4 inches
Bench: 7 reps of 225 pounds

don't tell me Alexander isn't as athletic as Burns cause they are close in everything, yet Alexander Jumps 4 inches more though he is 2 inches shorter.

we did draft another guy awhile back that ran hurdles, and that didn't end up to bad. one can only hope..

Miami CB Artie Burns
His stock has skyrocketed since defensive backs coaches have been able to dig into his tape. Burns catches like a wide receiver and is a championship hurdler, so you know he's athletic. The tape and technique are raw and uneven, and Burns appears to coast on his athleticism too often. Great potential, but a projection player with a lower floor.

well we took one other hurdler before.. and he ended up being the best we ever had,, Woodson. So there's that.

Well Steeler Nation,

Good night peeps. Pens lost and the draft didn't go accordingly. Gonna booze away these sorrows and wake up hopeful tomorrow cause life does indeed go on.

But in the mean time, sad as fock

Clearly they had Burns ahead of Alexander. As far as we know, they may had ranked Burns ahead of WJIII & Apple.

yet tell me who was drafting a CB between 27 and 31? no one unless Apple, Hargreaves or Jackson were there

Well, if they did, they must have felt like geniuses running up to the podium :) I hope it works out. People seem to be forgetting we took a corner in round 2 last year, and he might just be ok too.

I don't see immediate starter..................That is Gay and Cockrell and Golsen in the slot.

I like the pick.

I just wish they would knock it off with the rush to the podium which has been their M.O. since the Noll years. It was also my biggest beef with the Timmons pick. In 2007 there was a sliding QB and a team looking to trade up.

Of course in light of the WAPO study on draft value maybe their approach is best, results indicate that it could be....but maybe it could be better with more picks.....

And exactly what would have been the downside of waiting 9 more minutes in stead of stupidly running to the podium immediately ? At worse we still pick the mediocre Burns but maybe we entertain ffers and still pick Burns in the 2nd round and get an additional 3rd round pick.

ok, I'm past the pissed off phase.

Now to the goods, has the size and speed to play outside CB, seems to have great hands, very good awareness

Plenty of spots in the secondary. Senquez Golson is another CB in the mix. Nice to see them adding talent where they can. Burns gives us a legitimate outside corner. This was a gaping hole and Colbert / Tomlin just took a firm step to fix it.

at least they are polar opposites in their attributes as Golsen is in the mold of a nickel CB
