18 seconds run off clock

The clock kept running as the offense was running onto the field before our last possession. 18 seconds ran off. Glad it didn't screw us.

So the officials get no blame? That's their damn job...that is their job to cover these aspects of the game.

The coaching staff is trying to figure out a way to move the ball down the field somehow.

I'm sorry, but in spite of the obvious error on the part of the officials, the coaching staff deserves a little credit for the win. And yes, they should have had someone monitoring it.
 
Funny thing is, I am screaming at the TV, the clock started as the official signaled touch back and ran those 18 seconds off, and no one, not announcers ( or their on the spot crew) or even the post game. I find no mention of it yet on sports sites!
 
I read an article on it just now.. the NFL has no comment.... honestly it worked to our favor.. the Chargers got no time for a miracle

In my opinion... It DID NOT work in our favor! Did we win the game? Yes. However, those 18 missing seconds dramatically changed how the game played out. Moreover, if the game ended WITHOUT Bell in the endzone (after the 5 seconds expire) and we LOSE the game? Can you even imagine the outcry from fans and players?

Can anyone give me a definitive answer on WHO is resposible for the clock? Is it an NFL employee? A stadium employee? That said... I understand that asking coaches on the field keeping track of this is adding something to the pile of resposibilities. BUt hiring someone to be in the booth or on the field that deals ONLY with this issue might be money well spent.

The refs also had back-to-back plays when the runner's knee didn't appear to touch the ground and they blew the play dead.

they also whistled Bell's forward progress stopped as he was still driving a charger further up field.
 
This is inexcusable and unacceptable for this to happen in the NFL. This is the kind of **** that used to happen in Massilon, Ohio years ago when my high school squad used to go there to play every year. The fact that it happened in an NFL game in 2015 is beyond crazy. Can you imagine how pissed we'd be if Bell hadn't scored?

Mike and Mike are going to discuss this in a bit. The fact that the NFL has no comment speaks volumes, IMHO.
 
After Pete Morelli tried to screw the Steelers in the playoffs against the Colts by inventing a rule to apply to overturn a clear Troy P interception it is a wonder how that corrupt incompetent ******* is allowed to officiate another Steeler Game.

Two things I would like to see in my lifetime

1) NFL Officials having to face the press after each and every game just like the players and coaches,

2) Lobbyists being grilled on Meet The Press.

As it stands right now the powers that be pretend that neither have much of an impact on what happens on the field or in Government.

The NFL needs to investigate, what if it was in New England?
 
In another time-related issue, Heath Miller was down with 9 seconds left on the clock. The flag came into the picture with 6 seconds left. The officials should have convened and put 4 seconds back on the clock. Glad that didn't cost the Steelers the game, either.

This is what disturbs me more than anything is that the official time is suppose to kept on the field. So the officials at some point screwed this up along with the scoreboard/clock person. 18 seconds makes alot of difference in that situation. It's just inexcusable that in a professional NFL game that something like this could happen.

What about when Heath catches the ball at the 1 at the end of the game and he's laying on the ground with :08 left and the clock just happens to keep running another 3 seconds for no reason. Watch the highlights...no excuse for it or for the officials not to put at least a couple seconds back on the clock there.

Edit: someone posted the same thing above at the same time...glad I wasn't the only one who saw it.
 
The officiating crew has a lot of film to watch, the women was totally confused on the fumble, started to run on the field when SD was kicking off on last possession and happy whistles all night. The NFL continues to show the weak part of game is the officials deciding the game.
 
You're right Nitsuj, I went back and watched that slow developing Woodhead screen actually did elapse. For 2 ******* seconds, on a hitch catch run and tackle. Bell's 5sec is the fastest 5sec play I've ever seen.
 
Coach cool shades needs to know what's going on and intervene in those situations, that's what good coaches do... But he is not a good coach and does not know what's going on.

He gave them that bonus 1:43 at the end of the first half thru awful clock management, a trait of his finishing out halves giving the opponent bonus time.

How about one time getting in the face of a ST player and letting em know the next stupid useless block in the back on a return is gonna result in a long bus ride home for whoever does it? No, that stupid style of play is right outta his play book.

Glad we could overcome MT and the officials to get this much needed win!
 
I always thought that part of the refereeing crew (not the refs on the field) was an official time keeper and that the time on the score board is just an "about" how much time is left? I guess not.

So Mike Vick getting sacked on third and long is Mike Tomlins fault because of bad clock management? We had plans to just run out the clock, but Bell bust out a 32 yard run that put us in a position to try and get points. Vick missed an open Bell on second down, and on third down he stepped up because Gilbert got beat on the inside at the snap and was sacked. But that is all Mike Tomlin and his horrible time management, not the players not executing or anything. Tomlin PLANNED for Gilbert to get destroyed on that play and completely blow up any chance of moving the ball closer for Bosworth. Lets not forget it was 3rd and 7 on the 38, that's a 56 yard FG. Not something you want to try with that much time left on the clock. It wasn't poor clock management, it was poor execution by the players and Tomlin made the right move to punt the ball away.
 
Calling a timeout with 2 remaining when not necessary is a classic panic move clock management by Tomlin...YES. He will never learn to manage click or timeouts, so we give teams extra chances. Good coaches don't give opponents extra chances to win.

At 2nd and 7 with a running clock at about 1:43 there is no need for that TO, keep it in your pocket and see what develops so only your team is controlling the clock and only your team has a half ending scoring opportunity, SIMPLE.

The player miscues that ensued after that obviously not his fault, but he did help to put them in the situation to fail. If he's gonna play/coach this tight to the vest those issues are definitely concerning and will cost us games. 1 game will matter come week 16-17 as we fight for a WC.

Saw this as well. I don't understand how our coaches are not on top of this. Certainly a clock issue, but the should be watching every second. And for Tomlin to say he was not aware of the clock (18 seconds tick off) speaks volumes.
