I think Pierre's stock took a big hit. Definitely not who you want to throw into the starting lineup. I hope they bring Spoon back and another vet to add to competition. I agree on Gilbert he looked like he had some promise.
Pierre had a Ike Taylor moment where teams found a way to exploit him... he has the speed and talent... now its just whether they can work with him to eliminate that through better technique... its quite a frequent thing with young players... they do well, then teams find a way to get the better of them, then they either adjust and grow or fall by the way side...
It has it's moments.
Looks like he is leaning toward the fall by the waist side.

The problem is the Steelers are no where near having the type of team around him he would need to succeed. Between free agency and flat out needing to upgrade a starting position they need to replace probably around 8 starters.

I'm not sure that Tomlin watches the purse. I think that's Colbert with an assist from Kahn. Now, I'm pretty sure Tomlin knows how much is there at any given time and that Colbert is only going to go along with bringing in FAs of a certain "value'. So, no sense bringing any of the top tier guys up.
No matter what though, the "stingy/value oriented" approach won't work if they are trying to rebuild on the fly. Especially when they can reasonably reach about $60M in free cap space by letting go of some dead weight and a restructure or two.
They are on record saying the draft process is even Steven. I wouldn't rule out Tomlin is knee deep in the process. Anywho I agree with you they need to shake up their process as it obviously needs tweaking. I am not even advocating all top tier. Just middle of the road upgrades. Then perhaps one top tier. Just not scrap heap approach. We actually want to better the talent level come Sundays.
Pickett sucks. Period.

I apologize if I missed this from you before, but what is it about his game that you don't think will translate to the NFL? I've watched him every week for his entire career both on TV and in person and am curious why you think he won't do anything at the NFL level.
Maybe I'm wrong - I hope I am but every time I've watched him he reminds me of Duck Hodges...

I never once thought of Duck Hodges while watching Pickett. Those two aren't even remotely close in how they play.
Daniel Kelly, a former scout says Rusty Hilger. After looking up who Rusty Hilger was, I think that's a bit harsh. But, he raises some questions about Pickett's level of competition, arm strength, anticipation, throwing motion, hands, tendency to lock in, deep ball accuracy and a few other issues.

Im not really a fan of this draft… I see a lot of 6-1 guys that are going to end up being mayfield clones getting overdrafted because they all want a kyler murray type short but mobile guy… its not a good strategy
Well it is a little harsh but I think Pickett will be an average QB in the NFL. And for all the reasons you've pointed out...
I'm going to go back and watch more tape. But I do remember his 'skittish' play which reminded me of Duck...

He isn't patient in the pocket and would rather roll to his right rather than step up to make a throw. Beyond that, he has good accuracy, arm strength, mobility, and size. I think he's a second-round prospect with the upside of a Cousins/Carr. I also woudn't call Pickett a system independent QB. He'll have to go to the right team to succeed.

Those are some bizarre--and flat out bad--comparisons from Trapasso.
Kenny Pickett doesn't remind me of Joe Burrow at all. Part of Josh Allen's specia ability is his size and strength, so I don't get the comparison for Willis. Sam Howell's comparison to Josh Dobbs is absolutely brutal. You're talking a 1st-2nd-round prospect compared to a fifth rounder who is barely good enough to be a third stringer. From Dobb's limited experience, Howell doesn't have the same style, but I would agree neither is an NFL starter.
Meh id take Kelly with a grain of salt… occasionally he is right but a lot of the times he is off tge mark… last year he was certain that Fields was going to blow all the rest of the qbs out of the water, called him a big version of Kyler Murray…
Look the guy is a redskins fan who badgered his way into a pro scout job with the Jets, during the mangini years I believe, lasted 4 years and has been out of the league ever since… didn’t exactly crush it as a scout… im not sold on Pickett as a true franchise guy by any means, but he had a really really good season and guys have been first round picks with lesser performances as one year wonders…
Every year kelly seems to hrp on one highly rated qb, sometimes several… as with most scouting he is hit or miss on his projections

I really liked watching him play in college but I think Pickett is a reach as an NFL starter. I'm sure someone will take him in the first round and I hope it is not us.
I called him a discount Johnny Manziel last year and I'll stick with it. The things he does in college I do not think will translate. Since he has been doing the same things for about 50 games, there is no upside or coaching potential. He simply does not have enough arm for the NFL and will be a TO machine.
