Kenny Pickett (QB - Pitt)................I gotta say this about him.....

I hope pickett goes to the giants and they trade Daniel jones to us for like a third round pick… i am one of the few who think Rudolph will be fine but i think Jones has infinatly higher upside

Does anyone see Pickett getting much better than he is right now? I see him as a backup or at the very best bottom of the league starter. We already have that level of QB with Mason.
Its hard to say… it’s probably 50/50 if he becomes a high end starter or just a guy. He processes reads very quickly and has a better arm that brees or brady did coming out, but he is older too… he is mobile enough, but very much pass first… he is very tough… i don’t think he is Marino part 2 or anything but i think he will be fine in the nfl… those gloves really negates the hand size issues…

Rudolph's teammates don't even think he's the guy. When talking about the next QB, Heyward said the Steelers have a good scouting department to bring someone in and Johnson talked about "whoever they bring in." He didn't show his support for Rudolph until they asked about him.

I'm not sure what you've seen from Rudolph that makes you think he'll be fine.

Comparative study of his first ten starts to a bunch of later blooming qb starts… he really isnt bad… now if he was showing franchise level competency, they wouldn’t have brought ben back this year… that isn’t to say he couldn’t, its just rarer for a late bloomer to jump that far ahead…

That first year he started his td ratio was really really good. And our offensive system really never fit his strengths the past three years… so he has a bunch of green flags to go with the red flags… he really needs a season to just play and see what you can build on. ideally they extend him again and if he has a solid season they can deal him if they draft a legitimate franchise type guy… if not you cut bait and move on

We drafted mason and Washington out of ok state together and both are busts we don’t need another season of either one to tell us what we already know: mason can’t find his second and third options Washington just never developed.. fire the ******* that scouted them but move the *** on! Why is it that Steeler fan base has to sit through 10 years of coaching futility and 5 years of ****** qbing? Or wait 20 years between franchise qbs? I remember Buffalo drafted Jim Kelly he didn’t want to play in Buffalo went to usfl. didnt even ever enter the Rooney’s minds to use the sistuation to get a true replacement for terry bradshaw! We could have had Jim Fukn Kelly! Nope don’t want trade a draft pick or spend a dollar geez us! Kelly to this day has big photograph of him standing with Bradshaw as a boy! and don’t even mention Moreno

Omar Moreno? What's he got to do with the Steelers?

The thing with Pickett, IMHO, is that his extra time in College is like getting a year or two in the minors. So many QB’s come out early, then either sit for a couple of years or flame out early, because they were not ready. I think the extra College time gives him a leg up on his other Draft mates. The time in College doesn’t concern me at all.

Where ever Pickett winds up, I believe he will succeed, but it won't be with the home team.

This draft does not have a franchise QB. Sam Howell is a smaller Mason Rudolph. Pickett is a bigger and slightly more talented Duck Hodges. Fix the OL, DL and ILB'er - NOW.

Go LT 1st round and get a high-quality talent like Trevor Penning, Northern Iowa, a genuine LT. Moore continues to struggle with the speed rush at LT. Penning takes over LT, Moore moves to RT, and the edges are now suddenly a strength. (If you think Okorafor should remain at RT, just focus on him 1st quarter last game. He gets pushed around in the running game. He is okay at best in the passing game.) Penning is a legitimate target.

The secondary is a trainwreck right now. Kyler Gordon has the size, reach, mirroring abilities, experience and productivity to challenge for a starting spot right now.

Tuitt is a lost cause. Whatever excuses he has, he missed an entire season - Ben's last - and obviously has little interest in playing. Need help on the DL. A guy like Travis Jones - massive, may become a popular target after the combine. He is a bit raw but a guy that big and athletic is an upgrade over a lot of the guys the Steelers are putting on the DL in place of Alualu and Tuitt.

Penning will probably last until later in the first, so I dealt the 1st rounder and later picks to Detroit to get their 28 and 66 and 3rd rounder in 2023. The draft unfolded this way for me:

28. Trevor Penning OT Northern Iowa
52. Kyler Gordon CB Washington
66. Travis Jones DE/DT Connecticut
84. Channing Tindall ILB Georgia

I also obtained Tennessee's 5th. Upgrades at OT, secondary, DL, and ILB. Draft capital for 2023. This re-tooling is not going to be done in one season. The Steelers need to think longer term for once.

Finally, as to the QB position, I go with Trubisky. Guy is mobile, good arm, experienced, and will do a pretty good job. He will have a better OL, 2nd year talent in Harris and Freiermuth.

I really don't know what to expect from Rudolph. When he started for Ben when the elbow was shot, he had some good games right at first.

True, they were running the first iteration of that ******* "3 yard pass / long handoff" offense, but he was amazingly accurate right at first. Then when teams figured out what the Steelers were doing, they started shutting it down and Mason became less and less effective. By the time he was brained by Garrett, he didn't come back the same because I think he was a little gun-shy.

I don't think he's a franchise guy by any means, but Cowher got to the playoffs with guys like Kordell, Tomczak, Graham and Maddox. I think Shades ought to be able to figure out how to win a few games with Rudolph. Particularly if they beef up the offensive and defensive lines, and lean on Harris to take pressure of Rudolph.

The defense has a few stars, some of which are in the twilight of their careers. They have enough talent there to pick up another DL, a linebacker and maybe a CB and hold together a good defense. (Particularly if they actually hire a REAL defensive coordinator who... you know... coordinates the defense.)

On offense, fix the ******* line. Get a blue chip OL, likely at tackle and find an interior guy in FA. Make the other guys fight like their lives depend on it, not for a starting position, but just to make the ******* team. If you get JuJu back, you're ok at WR, if not you'll likely need to pick up another WR in the draft or FA who you actually believe can play.

Hire a WR coach and tell him that his ONLY job is to improve each WR on the roster individually. Define metrics that validate that improvement and tell the coach "You know exactly what you need to do. Fail and you can pack up your ****." Get an OLine coach and tell him he truly needs to put together a coherent successful run-blocking line. His requirement is to get the team in the top 1/2 of the NFL in the run game in one year. Period. Also tell him that the passing game better not fall below the abysmal ******* level it's at now because that's just about ******* impossible. Again, if he can't do it. Pack up your **** and get on with your life's work.

Since there's no hope they're getting rid of Canada, I'd tell him the same thing. If he doesn't meet specified metric improvements in every offensive category he's ******* fired. And I'd tell him the ownership/head coaches will review his progress quarterly. He can be fired mid-season if he continues to suck stale cat ***.

Cause I'm a bona-fide innernets BADASS!

REAL internet BADASS would have included the HC in their criteria of success.!

That’s an opinion…for the right price things can change

Or are asserting some sort of “insider info” like he doesn’t want to be a puppet for an asshat HC?

I agree on this. I think Munchak is a smart very good coach who has experience and knows better than to just come back with situation as is. I think he left for added reason other than JUST wanting to be closer to family.

If the right cryteria was at stake then you are right, maybe he would. Unfortunately that cryteria would mean Coach Tomlin would have to relinquish soe strong holds which I'm afraid his ego wouldn't let happen.

Detroit???
Don't rule out Cleveland. At #13, they could, theoretically, move up for Pickett if they wanted to move on from/provide competition to Mayfield.

With a team around him, Rudolph can win 9 or 10 games a season to keep Tomlin's streak alive. He won't light anything on fire with his play but he is capable of winning as he has already shown. We won't be winning any championships with him. That seems to be just fine with Tomlin.

I think that is omitted in convos because we know he is locked in.😉 My bacon loving friend.

I hear yaz and I wasn't trying to demean wig because we all know he has a bad ***, both Supe and Coolie agreed on that.

No cornerback? I think that's a must.
It really isn’t a must, more of a luxury… they have cam Sutton, who is great in the slot but average outside, and Pierre who actually has serious potential. Witherspoon looks like a starter that probably can be signed cheap…

They have several cheap young slot options as well… if Haden doesn’t come back they need another outside guy but that almost certainly needs to be a vet type…

The real shame is that the Lions poached both Shakur Brown and Gilbert off of us… especially Gilbert… that dude has some first round level upside… that injury just burned his draft status

He wouldn't have won 9 games this season, he wouldn't have orchestrated those 4th qtr wins.
