Report: Steelers Reportedly Trading For Jacksonville Linebacker Joe Schobert

Going all in. They have plenty enough talent to win it all. Do they have the leadership, selflessness and closeness needed by all to win as a unit? To do whatever it takes?

Who knows? I haven't seen that in many years. I do hope to not see any proclamations about special treatment at the superbowl long before you've won a playoff game.

Maybe if Dan, Cowher and Donahoe would have gone out and got that player or two, they could have gotten that one for the thumb earlier. I always felt those teams in the 90s were just a player or so away. I also remember the gnashing of teeth that the Steelers didn't do those things in those days.
Yeah, they were one player away - a real quarterback.

4 to 5 years is about peak in any position other than QB. You have the experience of about 50-70 games and are still at your athletic high point. Plus statistically how many players play 10 years without a season ending injury. So there is a better than good chance you will lose one of those 30 million dollar seasons almost completely.
I can't even anymore. You're taking bullshit, throwing it against the wall, and hoping it sticks.

Hey guys, TJ ******* Watt isn't going to get any better from here on out. Just forget it, his run is over.

I respectfully disagree. It only takes a play or two to totally change this narrative. The refs call a TD instead of going to the ground, Bud doesn't go down, or Bush. Randy Fichtner gets hit by a car.
Whoever called that playoff game D - gets locked away in a closet. Far far away. Thought I would bring a 🎈 to the party 🎉 .

Next season when we have a lot of cap space, I can see us making a lot of trades similar to this one. Productive scheme fits who are 1-2 years into a long term deal, but have mostly exhausted their guarantees. Hell, if Bud doesn't fit in with Tennessee, he could easily come back our way for a pick.

LOL.....yep. Tons of trades will happen.

They could barely keep the players they already had during that time.

It was kind of miracle, as well as a testament to Cowher and Donahoe, that they were as competitive as they were for much of the 1990s.

There was a time when trades didn’t happen unless the player was extremely flawed… which is why the Rooneys really stopped pursuing them and instead built through the draft

But the salary cap has created a scenario where teams move on from good young players for financial reasons so in many cases it makes sense…

I was watching the 2016 draft with a buddy of mine big WFT guy. round 2 and 3 He was screaming every time the Skins picked to take this Joe Schobert guy.

In round 3 when it was our turn I remember him saying that the Steelers would be crazy to not pick Schobert. We picked Hargrave.

He called me yesterday to congratulate me on finally getting the right guy. I dont think he realizes that I had absolutely nothing to do with it.

I wouldn't consider Hargrave a mistake. I wish we could have kept him.

so to be clear next year is the throw away season. Cause I thought it should have been this one. Then they would be one year closer to where I'd want them to be.

If Ben had hung it up I agree this was the throw away season but he didn't, he cut 5M off his contract to come back to win it all.

One thing is what you want and another what they want, especially if their HoF QB wants to go for one more try while the rest of the team is loaded.

I agree we need to start over at QB but only after Ben is really done and I didn't see that last season

I don't have any issue with this trade except we are super thin in other areas. I would rather be trading for oline or Cbs. Seems odd the Jags would trade this guy after just signing him. Just hope there are not underlying issues
You can only get at bargain price what's available.

Spillane must have really been ******** the bed in camp, or maybe Bush hasn't recovered as well yet as they had hoped.

Definitely an aggressive move, though I do not understand why they were not willing to do something like this on the OL during the off-season.
It takes two to tango

I agree with most of this post but the point of the team being loaded. They are razor thin in the secondary and the Oline which is the engine of a football team could be terrible.

Semi loaded then? OL is suspect yet Ben already won a SB with that, same goes for DB, we did have Polamalu and Taylor, now we have Minkah and Haden plus a really, reeeally good to great front 7

no offense. But you are a ****** idiot. No he isn't going to get better. Doesn't mean he is going to be bad or have a massive drop off. But he isn't going to put up bigger numbers. Look at his brothers stats. Or any great defender for that matter. They got substantially better after 5 years. ********.

sorry Bros that was Ben 13 years ago.

I'm not cynical. I'm just a realist. When you have seen the movie this many times and you expect a different ending.......
Doesn't mean I won't enjoy the games. Doesn't mean I'm not excited about Schobert. I just have some real world questions about the way this team is run. I feel they will continue to live in the middle until there is a real overhaul in this organization.
Could you please point out the better organizations that the Steelers should emulate?
