He is not a Steeler.

Steeler Nation was born when the steeelers.com message board started overly moderating everything. It has been awhile....late 1990's maybe.one of you other old timers do you remember the year?..I Certain words could not be posted, it was idiotic. Diamond Dave set up this site and the migration began. WE have been around as Steeler Nation since then. A merger was done with Juiceman's lesser message board and then we got a lot of refugees when some other site either shut down or went nuts themselves. The guys that joined us here from those other places can tell you about them.

Wow late 90's, been a long damn time. Were any of you over at the Trib board at all? Think I joined there in November 2002 and it was booming then. It had it's run but took a **** after a few years.

It was 2000.

I remember it taking them awhile to actually settle on a message board platform. It seemed like the community went to another one every couple months.

yeah we bounced around a bit...the crying when the post counts were reset were hilarious

No. They kick ***. I like their version of War Pigs better than the original.

I'll take Cake's version...

Also love Primus's version of Have a Cigar. Cool that he and Ozzy got to do a song later in life!

Love me some Primus/Les Claypool (sometimes I catch myself saying Les instead of Chase when talking about our rookie!)

Also loved early RHCP. I was a Huge Hillel Slovac fan before he ODed. Uplift Mofo Party Plan, Freaky Styley Great stuff. I will concede that their sound was perfected with John Fruchante. Brilliant guitar work on Mohter's Milk, Blood Sugar Sex Magic/ Californication. I liked Navarro in Jane's Addiction, but did not like him at all on One Hot Minute. I did however love the cover of Rollercoaster of Love they did for the Beavis and Butthead movie, and he and Flea provided the punched up guitar and bass for Alannis Morrisette's Outta Know on the Radio edit. They killed that!

Okay, gonna try a couple outliers real quick (give em a quick listen):

Oleander - Why I'm Here

Toadies - Possum Kingdom, Tyler (yes, Tyler as in Tyler TX - they're from TX)

That Toadies song is insane. Want to write a song in 7/8 or 8/8. Let's just do both and switch every progression. INSANE!!!

after the 50th time of him asking me if I want to die....I was ready to say yes if it means this song is over

the only think I'll say about those two are at least they weren't glam rock....

and I'm sorry Black Sabbath's War Pigs is better

Generals gathered in their massessssssssssssssssssssssssssss

okay I listened to several AC/DC songs to clear that other, uh...music out of my head...now to search for the album cope suggested.

can any of it compare to Back in Black, Thunderstruck, or TNT???

okay I posted that Black Sabbath's version of War Pigs was better, but to be fair I had never listened to Cake's version. So I just played in on the youtube....damn....

it is like someone took Black Sabbath, cut their balls off and had them redo the song.

Is that the best Cake has to offer?

gotta play some more AC/DC to clear that cake out of my ears

Never been huge in Bad Religion, but I like their stuff. More of a NOFX, Dead Milkmen, Rancid kind of guy. The Interrupters are out now and they have the lead singer from Rancid's son in it. Do some ska punk and have a girl vocalist as well.

Experimental jazz is like jam bands, minus any timing cohesion. It usually just devolves into noise, and after about 5min of it, I'm completely done with it.

Coolie, I like all your music plus the Alt rock/Grunge. It was a good way to put that girly glam rock bullshit to bed for good! I'm surprised you didn't mention Johnny Cash. He's the man in older country IMHO.

If you hate grunge/Alt, do me a favor and check out one album. It's called As Good As Dead from Local H (it's on Youtube). They were a band that popped up with the grunge scene, but they were anti grunge as well, as versed by their song Eddie Vedder. 2 man band, just a dude on guitar and a kickass drummer. They addd the bass in post production. High Fivin ************ is a song I can imagine you getting down to. Kiind of System of the Downish and predated them by about 6 years. Local H got ****** with Island Records ended their label and dumped all their acts except for U2. A lot of politics in the music industry. I was in it for about a decade...

for a group that "hated" grunge"....they sure sound a lot like grunge to me

lyrics may be different, but it is the same ballless music....much like alt rock..

100% agreed that Cake's version of War Pigs was crap. The only one who did the classic justice is Faith No More IMO. Mike Bordin their drummer especially good on it.

I'm getting a better sense of your music taste and you will not be disappointed with that version. My last request (for now :peaceful:).

Faith No More - War Pigs

And while you're listening, check out "Falling to Pieces".

My tastes vary, but hell, Genesis/Phil Collins and the Eagles sing with more heart and balls than Cake and those other grunge/alt rock groups

i'll check out faith no more's version....but if it sucks I may have to ban you

okay the music on Faith no more's version was way better than Cake's...not up to the original but better...but the vocalist is pitiful.

listened to falling to pieces and again the music is okay, but the vocals sound like his nuts haven't dropped yet

I remember that. I was just getting into message boards at the time Steelers.com was my first one. You're right it was really weird, like you couldn't type out Dick Lebeau with it being censored then a warning from a mod. After that board broke I ended up at Steelers Fever then it blew up in fantastic fashion. That's where I know Spike from, yes he was douche back then too, but that's his online personna.

Spike has been one of my favorites since he joined...pretty sure he is the one I sent my steeler flag to when he was deployed and some brown's fans were getting uppitiy

very much so....there might be a song or two that is okay, but overall it was a lot of bad music. yeah it was popular...but a lot of popular music sucks

Yeah like Bon Jovi lol. What a poser he is.

Yeah, my Cake reference to War Pigs was tongue in cheek. Their originals are much better.

Nothing really compares to the rock that is AC/DC. Saw them live in Philly about 7 years ago. LOVED IT!!! JET did Cold Hard *****. That's the closest you're going to get to AC/DC.

hmmmmm it didn't read as tongue in cheek....it seems you just don't like to admit to liking inferior music

if you read my posts...I never claimed to like them...in fact i believe I said that was when rock started to die

I only caught someone else direct a comment your direction about them. Sorry for beating it to death. I just have always felt he is fraud. He's been put on some pedestal married his childhood sweetheart, such a good person blah blah blah. He screwed around on her for decades. He's a fraud. At least most rockers tend to somewhat own their shortcomings in the fidelity department.

So yeah, I guess it struck a nerve.
