Any inside backers we could trade for?

Manti te'o and Burfict...Really?!?

https://www.behindthesteelcurtain.c...d-target-after-devin-bushs-injury-news-rumors

The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly suffered a horrible injury to second year linebacker Devin Bush. During the team’s 38-7 win over the Cleveland Browns Bush left the game with what is being labeled a torn ACL. The injury is season-ending and will require the Steelers to dig into their depth at the position.

Unless they want to look for some players outside the organization to help fill out the position.

It should be noted how none of these players are going to be locks at the position and be the cure-all for the team as they try to fill the huge shoes vacated by Bush. Nonetheless, here is a list of available free agents who could help soften the blow of losing Bush:

Wesley Woodyard
Deone Bucannon
Alec Ogletree
Manti Te’o
Nigel Bradham (Denver Practice Squad)
Darron Lee
Marquel Lee
Preston Brown
Vontaze Burfict[/QUOTE]

Sign him!!!!

ones to consider Darren Lee can cover Ogeltree as well lets call them tomm bring them in teusday an see.
Internal options you rotate Gilbert for passing situations along with allen/gilbert and Spillane
My preference base williams with Spillane and then in nickel Williams and Gilbert or bring Edmunds under to MLB and eithier Allen or Dangerfield at his spot.

Riding with Spillaine and Ulysees. We have to bring someone in for depth though. Interested to see if Marcus gets some passing downs. Spilliane was already running the 3rd down single ILB plays.

I thought spillane played very well. I would put in a hybrid player on passing downs or just use one of our back up safeties. If we signed anyone i would do it for depth only

I would kick the tires on Ogletree for depth. Not much out there as far as free agents are concerned

Any three down inside linebacker is not on the street and not going to trade. It will be replace by committee and the D line will have to play better, but lets be real for a minute. I can almost guarantee you Spillane can hold up against the run. And it wasn't like Bush was ringing up sacks and interceptions. Now the issue will be Baltimore where he almost certainly would have played spy on Jackson. That is gonna be a big ****** problem for sure. Maybe I'm off base, but if the Allen Kid can't play Dime Linebacker why not Edmunds. He is 6'1 217. Then put Davis or Dangerfield on the backend with Fitzpatrick. The Dimebacker is a hybrid Safety anyhow. You will lose some on the run support, but should be better vs. pass.

No matter what we need to bring in another ilb just as a backup... but as for Burfict... I wouldn’t trust that he wouldn’t injure our own guys in practice lol

Just rewatched the game. Spillaine was everywhere. Very active in pass defense, timed his blitzes well, got blocked a few times, but made more big hits and tackles than him being walled off.

Also Hightower had 2 big ST tackles, and came in to relieve both Bud and Watt at times. He's the backup swing OLB for sure!

Ulysees and Marcus Allen are both fast and will help fill the role at ILB. I don't think we need to go outsdie yet, but someone will either be promoted or signed.

All of that is great but even if everyone already on the roster fills the gameday snaps just fine, Bush is going on IR and his roster spot needs filled from somewhere...

I read that Te'o's girlfriend recovered from the cancer scare and might be available.

Jokes aside the problems with signing him are
A.) the bears were working him out a couple days ago and may make him an offer before we ever get to try
B.) we would have to plan who to bring in after he gets hurt 3 to 5 games into his time here lol

My answer is NOT yet. Spillaine was decent in action. Let's see what we have here. Once teams get eliminated from the playoffs, some of them might be willing to trade what they have to prep for next year.

I think Ogletree USED to be able to. The Giants cut him and they're not exactly loaded and then the Jets and we know they're not. He's a name at this point.

ESPN said:
Ogletree, one of the league's highest-paid inside linebackers over the past two years at $10 million per season, became a liability in pass coverage and saw his playing time diminish.

Too many Richie Rich dudes on this site. In this new NFL, yinz gotta start makin' due with what ya got cause there ain't nothin' in the cookie jar to waste on whimsical desires.

The deadline is november 3rd... nobody will be eliminated from the playoffs by the 3rd lol

The teams looking And willing to sell off players is expected to be a bit higher this season due to lower revenues... it’s probably likely that if we do go the trade route rather than a ufa or snagging a backup piece off of a practice squad, that we are able to get one fairly cheap since teams that aren’t likely to make the playoffs won’t want to pay prorated contracts out if they don’t need to...

I mean I don’t see us moving a first Or second for a guy, but if the right dude Is shopped for a lower middle rounder it may make sense... Hard to say since its all speculation

They could fill his spot with a practice squader, but they would have to keep him on the active roster...

The most likely route to filling his roster spot imo is signing a free agent ilb to the practice squad and promoting one of the safeties up, using Ulysses as the backup and moving allen to ILB In a pinch ..

The second most likely is signing a street free agent as the inactive backup.

The third is Signing a guy off of another practice squad

The fourth is making a trade..

By November 3rd, the Jets, Giant, Bengals, Washington Football Team, Vikings, Falcons and Jaguars might be willing to deal. These teams have but 1 win. They're season with another loss is over. At least I think so.

Translation, one of these teams might be willing to trade a linebacker better than what we have. While I wish Bush a speedy recovery, he really was not they type of season that I hoped for.

Darron Lee, for discussion only.

We see a lot of Ohio State college football on television in this area and this guy was a complete Ryan Shazier clone in college. Same size (6-1, 225-230), very fast and agile, can blitz and cover. Former 1st round draft pick but never seemed to make an impact with the Jets. Was it him or was it the Jets? Many players have seen their careers go into the Meadowlands toilet over the years with that organization.

The guy is 25, so still relatively young and he is an UFA so wouldn't cost a draft pick to bring him in.

I have no idea what happened to his pro career. Could be a head case, could be slow to learn or just doesn't want to put in the effort. I have no idea. But he has (or had) that same type of game as a Ryan Shazier or Devin Bush - an active, mobile, fast ILB who hits. And he's sitting at home so maybe worth a look. Sometimes being humbled without a job can clear the head if that was his issue.

Just a thought.

Coach, I hear what YOU are saying on the teams mentioned. I also think we will not find the caliber of player with the money / trade we have / want to spend. I'm always for taking a looksie on any IDEA that may help the team. I think BUSH has been having a pretty good year to date. I think he is doing what they ask of him and succeeding. I haven't looked up any stats but also know our "D" is playing pretty dang well to date.

Definitely worth a look and bet our guys are pursuing all avenues. They might already know something we don't but still a good name and idea.

he was suspended for the first 4 weeks of the season. Seems like trouble. Someone I doubt the FO would want to pursue.

AGREE, like I said the front office would know better than us due to them having better access to the scuttlebutt.
