Bell Released

I'd kick the tires at the vet minimum. Not sure how much he would actually help though. The O-Line ain't the greatest at run blocking, and who knows how much tread Bell has left on the tires. I think he could help the passing game some, but again, how much? If it is anything more than vet minimum, then no.

BELL has lost a 1/2 football step. With his delayed run style that doesn't bode well. WHY would we want our OL to have to learn to block for his style of running? To many kinks to consider him especially when we seem to be doing just fine without the risk he brings. CAP is also an issue. The boat is full speed ahead, let's not rock it.

Salute the nation

I don’t think he has lost a step... but your oline point is valid.... i am not really advocating that he come back at all. if he came here It would have to be at vet minimum... he is a vested vet so he can put in a claim to be paid for this whole season from the jets.. he can do that when cut midseason once in his career iirc so he wouldn’t lose money that way

The thing is Samuels has his pass catching skillset and fitchner doesn’t utilize it.... and lets be honest... bell was magnificent outside of the red zone, but conner or snell or any traditional runner are better inside the red zone

Bear in mind the steelers at least listened earlier when the jests were shopping him during his first spat with Gast... there is probably more Interest on the steelers than the fans would admit, but i feel like he will go somewhere he will clearly start and where they can pay him more right away... That wouldn’t be here ...

Jests fans seem to be about 90% on his side in this... maybe higher... their coach is a knob and they know it... doesn’t excuse bell from losing 14 million dollars sitting out a whole season at all, but still in this case he was probably more right than wrong...

I'll take an LB who is 2-3yrs past his prime over a Conner/Snell combination any day.

This is not a Super Bowl team with this current running game. Absolutely no consistency or reliability to any degree.

Get LB back and it will give some consistency as well as a good dump-off target for Ben when everybody is covered.

...and I wonder how much more receptive people on this forum would be to getting him back if we didn't have a 4-0 record right now. What would everybody on here be saying if we were currently 0-4 and desperate for our first win ? Keep in mind the combined record of the opponents we've played is 2-13-1 !

do you really want the possibilty that there would be dessension in the locker room with the younger guys? They would basically pushing every RB down the depth chart because you don't bring in Bell to be a 3rd down back. I would tread carefully with bringing him back here. Maybe he is a good teammate, maybe he contributes, but someone is being cut or moved.

Hell yes I do !

I don't care about hurting people's feelings. I'm here to win Super Bowls !

And again, as far as locker room relationships go, this isn't AB we're talking about here. The guy wasn't ****-talking teammates or coaches. There may have been some nastiness from teammates who were pissed at him for not playing, but I'm sure it's nothing that can't be pushed aside when we're beating other playoff teams.

I think you are personally wasting your breath. I don't see them bringing him in, no matter how hard to wish for or rationalize it.

He got what he wanted money and not play. Steelers surly want nothing to do with him.. The Steelers have some young guys that have desire, Bell would bring in the Brown attitude and do nothing for this team but cause conflict.

I can only say this: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

pretty much what I thought when I saw he was released......

still, if he can be had cheap, the Steelers have some cap space, bring him in roll the dice and see what happens. if he is a problem, cut him

If this team is not a SB contending team it has nothing to do with their running back room. You are not going to be great/all pro in every position. Conner was hurt in the first game and essentially has about 260 yards in 3 games and has done a good job in the pass game and around the goaline.. Good enough. If this team doesn't reach where we want it to go it will likely be because of the Coach and his defensive philosophy which does not allow the defense to dictate the play and instead takes a bend don't break, but somehow break when it matters bullshit.

Conner was hurt in the first game

Conner is hurt in EVERY game !

I was on board w/ Conner at the beginning. He's got a great story. It's all admirable ; and he's a Pitt guy. Everybody wants him to succeed.

But I see Conner do two things with great frequency :

1) Stand on the sideline, hurt
2) Go down with the first person who hits him. I think the man is all but incapable of breaking tackles.

Poison the locker room ? I don't recall Bell ever being a problem in the locker room. I don't think he was ever a problem outside of contract negotiations. This isn't AB we're talking about here.

We don’t know WHAT was said in locker room.

But we do know the OL spoke out about his not being there.

The drama that came out about AB we didn’t know about.... wouldn’t surprise me if same thing with Bell

I don't think he is worth the headache to the locker room. Remember, those who were on the team in 2018 got quit on by this guy. They don't want those kind of antics around them. He is a shell of his former self. RBs decline rapidly in this game.

That train is about two years late. The defense, while not at mid-season form, is performing well. Like top ten in most categories, even passing metrics, well. Leads the the league in sacks and pressures. Top 5 in run defense. I'd say their defensive philosophy so far is more like attempt to do what you feel like, we're just going to stop you.

And, If Haden, Hilton and Nelson can shore up their communication and coverage on 3rd down, we're going to be even better defensively. Minkah? Well, he's actually been personally targeted 10 times in 4 games (2.5x a game), so QBs ARE avoiding him. Nice little write up on the secondary's problems on DK's site.

he's 28, soon to be 29 and closer to the 30-year old RB cliff than he is to the 2017 version of LB we remember. as said before, he spent a year away from football and bloated. that didn't help him. he was never the fastest guy on the team, and tried to lose weight to help get his speed up. Gase could very well be the biggest ******* coach in new york, but this is about Bell.

he's a malcontent who seems more interested in being a celebrity and partying than he does anything else. i can't blame him on some level. Being that age with millions in the bank, women everywhere and a party lifestyle that he grew to embrace. but the money can dry up and then the gold diggers are gone. his rap career was as good as the 1/2 step he lost that he didnt need to lose.

all that said, i doubt he comes back. i doubt the locker room - Heyward, Villanueva, Tuitt, Pouncey, Ben - would embrace a guy who bailed on them when they could have used him most.

Good enough.

What is wrong with bringing in competewtion to make people fight for their ******* playing time?

I don't know what RB this Forum has been watching, but Conner has been slow to holes ALL YEAR...Take out his 59 yard scamper & he is averaging 3.87 yards per carry. He's been pretty bad all year. He catches really well, but as a lead RB, he has topped out...Average to below average runner.

With 4 minutes left in a game, we don't have a back that can get us 2-3 straight furst downs to seal it

There are no salary cap issues if we want to sign him.

He is due $6 million for the rest of this year from the Jets minus whatever he signs for elsewhere, which means a team would have to offer Bell MORE than $6 million for him to actually make more money than he is right now. And no team is going to do that.

So all he cares about is location for the rest of this season at minimum salary (and remember, minimum salaries for veterans don't count full amount against the cap I think).

I would think Pittsburgh is in play. As well as New England, San Diego, Indianapolis, Seattle (maybe), Washington. Even Denver maybe now that Gordon has a DUI to deal with. There are a lot of thin RB cores looking around the NFL right now. Lots of nobodies getting snaps/carries.

For the love of God, for the love of all that is holy, do NOT even remotely consider signing a washed-up, has-been, worthless, whining, complaining little ***** who looked for the first chance available to @#$% the Steelers, right after @#$%ing the team in the playoffs against the Pats*.

You ever work with a guy who used to be productive, and was kept on despite being an ******* because of that productivity? And then he gets lazy and stupid, rests on his laurels, and his ******* factor INCREASES?

Bell is that guy. Any team that signs him will get about 2 quarters of play before another mysterious injury pops up.

Fans have every right to their opinion on Bell as a man, none of this changes the fact that Bell is a different animal than any other RB we have, 2017, 2019, 2020. Conner and Jaysam have never and will never come close to the player that Leveon Bell was in 2017, or the player he is now. That is just a fact.
The hate for Bell is like people who hate on Trump. You can hate the man, but you can't say he's not best suited for the Job vs the alternatives.

Sure we can there is nothing that points to Bell being able to be Bell of 2017. Also nothing points to him not being the easily disgruntled type.

2 solid reasons not to sign him..
