Holy ****, we got our TE!!! Eric Ebron signs with Steelers

I give Colbert credit for signing both Ebron and Wormley.

We are addressing needs.

Are there better people out there? Probably but at what price.

Wormley is a tough guy that you can plug into the D line to lessen the loss of Hargrove.

Ebron is the second TE that can take the pressure off Vance McDonald AND gives Big Ben another target in the redzone.

What I find funny about this thread is that some posters act like this is the second coming while others pooh pooh it as a "nothing" signing.

One of the re-occuring themes for years on this forum was the front office wasn't addressing pressing needs.

I think Kevin Colbert signing these 2 players shows his quiet smarts.

If Ebron provides the yards and TDs he is capable of, while being healthy, it's a solid signing. If gives Ben another big target in the red zone, which they have been lacking. I feel better with McDonald and Ebron as the team's TEs. With whom is out there, pedigree and price tag, I think Colbert did well. No FA is a sure thing. We saw that with Barron, Moncrief, but also have Haden, Nelson and Alualu that have succeeded here.

And then there is a possibility that you could put both TE's on the field at the same time.

I'm sure that's the plan. The Steelers love using 2 TE sets. The beautiful thing here is with 2 legit receiving threats, teams won't know who to focus on. It should open up a lot for the run game and the passing game if both guys are healthy and on the field together.

Wait for the details but this is likely a one year deal for Ebron with a club option for a second for Steelers. If he balls out we get a great deal for two years on a tight end. If he is good not great we are paying him what he’s worth. If he is injured we cut him after the season. Low risk high reward.

Now I would not abandon the TE in the draft because if a guy like Kmet falls to the 4th I’m jumping on it or a developmental guy like Stephen Sullivan late like 7th or a guy with a couple question marks like CJ O’Grady. Gives us flexibility on getting value not reaching on a player.

I think Kmet gets drafted in the 2nd round

Well you hate to just hand the third spot to a TE who has shown little to nothing. I prefer depth competition. Especially with option 1 and 2 injured enough to desire some strong depth. I guess the Steelers will have to judge if they are happy overall. The thinking is they did invest in Ebron so they could be done free agent wise. If so they could still dip into a pick day 3 of the draft.

If vannett gets zero interest in FA he might be kept for near vet minimum

IMHO...not a big fan of this move...

Ebron has really never impressed me.

sub par hands, below average blocking skills, and injury prone..
however, I love the Wormley pick up.

My 2 cents

It works like this- if I can't get paid then I go to best opportunity. So if Vannett isn't getting a pay day he will go somewhere to be a two not a three.

Don't forget with the travel restrictions and quarantine in place, most contracts have a clause that the player still needs to pass a physical. There was an article about this the other day. Ebron probably hasn't taken a physical yet. If his ankle isn't healed, the deal could be off.

Probably

.Unless there are no offers and you are sitting at home playing finger football. 3rd string is better than no string...

Hmmm, this needed a thread all on its own?

Um, to answer your question, Martavis was tall & rail thin, and was timed running a 4.27 in the 40. Ebron, a thicker dude at 240-250 ran a 4.5-4.6.

So I'd say the comparison between these two players is a stretch, at best, besides the fact they're both around 6-4.

I'm hoping if EBRON is just like Bryant.........that he can take a couple weeks off the JangA, durring the testing period.

In my best Michael Caine voice from The Dark Knight, "Some Men Just Want the World to Watch Them".

I see ebron as a guy the will flex out inside the 20 to run a fade or post where ben will throw it where only ebron can get lets hope ebron has the hands he developed in indy rather than the ones from detriot.
that can let vance in the slot vs a lb und beat him up the seam.

Let's hope Vance and Gentry get Ebron on the jugs machine for about an hour after every practice, once they are finally able to start practicing again.
