Tag and trade Bud?

Oh ****, Hines57 will be along any minute to call you a pencil neck Madden playing Nerd.

naw I only call weak *** soccer players that. well and Vader too. Bud will get more than 12-13 per, and it will be a deal once others get signed to larger contracts.

That's why we have Anthony Chickillo!

(ducking)

Actually I bet Chickillo has better stats per snap than Bud does, hell he never plays and has the same # of fumble recoveries, and has half(3) the number of FF's as Bud(6), Bud had 9 PD's in 5 years, starting most of those games, Chick has 3 PD's hardly ever playing.

LMAO, more badassery **** talking, LMAO. Anytime you want to try to play soccer, let me know.

good thing we aren't dealing with that headache anymore either.

We will see how they ***** and moan after Bud gets franchise tagged.

Better yet, when Watt gets around $30M a year on his deal we will see the true color of some of the posters here.

You keep ignoring the fact that TJ Watt is already the best OLB in the NFL, has produced from day one, damn! No one is going to complain when you keep a guy and pay a guy like that.

I will predict $24.5 million a year for Watt's contract if he continues to perform
I also predict someone will come up with the following statement........ "He is not even the best player in his own family"

IMO - we'll franchise tag Bud with the Exclusive Franchise Tag as opposed to the Non-Exclusive. Why? IMO, again, it will show Bud that we do want to retain him and keep him in Pittsburgh. This will likely be his one true contract to cash in on and we are finally reaping the rewards of waiting for the light to come on.

The Steelers will want to pay him market rate, or below. Bud's agent is going to ask for the moon. Steelers will want a maximum ROI on paying Bud. Bud will want to have guaranteed money (if he's smart) instead of fake numbers on production he cannot or will not achieve. Somewhere in between, we'll find a middle ground. No, Bud's NOT the best OLB on the team - as Crayola continuously points out, that's TJ. But, do we want to see Watt get doubled/tripled on every down while some trash like First Round Hall of Famer, Mr Gold Jacket Anthony "Cooch's Most Favoritest" Chickillo plays patty-cake on the other side? Or some rook is thrust into the defense that has been somehow notorious for rooks to learn, and have the defense take a step back?

Look around the league - pass rushers are at a premium right now. Bud's finally developed into one.

The only guy on this list I'd even consider - if we do not get a long-term deal with Bud signed - is Dante Fowler, Jr. He made $12 mil last season, and is Bud's age. The rest is a list of aging LBs whom we should avoid.

Also - note that Jamie Collins is a FA. Would you REALLY want to see Bud get snatched up by the ***s?

I doubt that, but would be interested to see the comps. Chickallo is a scrub, nothing more and nothing less.

Oh yeah, I agree with that, just pointing out FF, FR, and PD's are pretty close considering Chick rarely plays.

You gonna take an L like Omar's 49ers did in the Super Bowl. Is this really what our offseason's have boiled down to? Pencil neck nerds like Vader and Coryea playing fake Madden GM because they want to fit someone within a salary structure. Stick to video games, please.

The man is getting paid by the Steelers, and we should all celebrate this as opposed to having another Jarvis situation.

I don't play Madden but I can understand someone of your intellect needing to believe that. Which is probably why you thought (and sidestepped in your response) guys like Porter and Lloyd were slow in development. He may get paid but that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. BTW when the salary cap goes up the salaries will go up as well. Players aren't going to take less knowing all that money is now available.

I'm with Paul G 100%. I don't advocate a long term contract for Bud. I'm going short term, by tagging him for a year. I don't worry about next year, because he's a much lower priority to sign next season with all the other FAs.

I also agree the $12-$13 range seems about right for a multi year deal IMHO, and I wouldn't be upset if they signed Bud to that deal.

I sign him if sign-able if not the non exclusive is fine with me.

If we can get him long term on a reasonable cap hit that can raise what is available to spend in free agency. Which ultimately is strengthening the roster.

Sure tag if need be but I am hoping long term.

No sidestepping necessary. Bud is getting paid and he's earned it. No where did I say he was a top 5 guy. But when he does get paid this year with a long term deal and the average salaries signed in future years bypass his annual salary this will be a good deal. Caveat here is he has to continue to perform and improve. He showed he can perform and he most definitely improved this year.

The increase in annual salaries is one of (but not all) of the reasons AB wanted a new contract. He wanted to be the highest paid WR in the game and when he wasn't he bitched his way out of town. I don't see Bud as a primadonna type guy at all. He's been a team player and stayed out of trouble. This is a guy I criticized heavily going into 2019 and he made me eat crow. The rest of you non-believers can soon follow.

Solid reasoning Slash.... the more contracts we have confirmed the more flexibility the front office staff have to maneuver their way through FA:greedy_dollars:

You are banking on the fact that his first 4 years were an anomaly and his true identity is his 5th season. I'm not taking that gamble. But if the Steelers want to pay him like a top 10 or a top 5 LB then by all means go for it. But you can't pay everyone.

Oh and sidestepping my not be necessary but you did it. Somehow you didn't respond... which is sidestepping.

With the playoffs on the line But was repeatedly gouged in the run game by the Rats and their backup QB . HE piled up sacks against some of the worst QBS in the league. Again he is a good not elite player but he wants elite pay. Pass.

Bud's starting point will be the tag or higher. If/when the Steelers do tag him why would it be any lower? Bud will not accept $12 to $13 mill a season. He will get paid by is or someone else. No doubt about it. And when the tag is like $16 mill....well that will be his going rate. When Watt comes up it will be higher.

Steelers let Bud walk. What do they do at OLB this year?
No one is saying to just let him walk, but most are saying not to over pay for him.
Someone else will play OLB. They didn't a CB opposite Haden last off-season, that worked out ok. Maybe Ola steps up

Possibly but after the Leveon Bell fiasco I'd never give someone an exclusive tag again. If we give him a long term deal, I'd try to rig it so there's a minimal dead money hit if we cut him if he goes back to sucking. Otherwise I agree with you.

I doubt that, but would be interested to see the comps. Chickallo is a scrub, nothing more and nothing less.

So basically if Chickallo played the same number of snaps, his career stats would look like this: 26 sacks, 9 PD's, 10 FF, 10 FR, 51 QB Hits.

Bud's career stats are 31 sacks, 9 PD's, 6 FF, 3 FR, 50 QB Hits.

For comparison, Watt has played 1,000 less snaps than Dupree and has 3 more career sacks.

This thread is becoming redundant. The mods should make a poll, what price in a 4 years contract would you be happy with?:
A) 12M avg
B) 14M avg
C) 16M avg
D) +16M avg
E) tag him at 16M and decide next season

Honestly man if the team actually thought Chic could/would perform that way, we wouldn't even be having the tag Bud discussion. But interesting extrapolation none-the-less.

Let me ask you this, when you have seen Chic on the field did you get the feeling that wow, this guy needs more playing time? Or, like me did you see a guy that pretty much looks lost out there and was underwhelming in pass coverage?

No, I'm in no way saying Chic is the guy to replace Bud at all, I was pissed when they wasted 4 million on him last season, just pointing out how even their stats are.
