Even though Le’Veon Bell remains hopeful the Pittsburgh Steelers will eventually get a long-term deal done, he is still not certain he will play a full 2018 NFL season. In light, by franchise tagging Bell, this gives the Steelers until July 16, 2018 to reach a long-term contract extension with its franchise player, as that […]

Just read the chat on the PG and one of the questions was how high the Steelers take a RB and possibly pull the tag. I mentioned this in an earlier post. I think it would be something to definitely consider if a back they really like falls to them in say Rd. 2. If they take a RB in Rd 1 or 2, I'd have to think they will seriously consider pulling the tag at some point.

Shocker!

I posted this on another thread, worth repeating:

"What the Steelers should do right now is restructure as many contracts as possible and free up cap space. Then work on trading Bell while beefing up the defense. If you can't trade him then sign or draft a top running back to complement Conner and rescind his tag. Then roll over the extra cap space to next year to cover the restructures. There are many creative ways the Steelers can handle this situation if they have the will to do it. If we keep Bell with the current cap eating tag number then I'm afraid we can look forward to more 45-38 scores next season and a quick exit from the playoffs. The only other option is signing Bell long term with a cap friendly deal early in the contract but it's looking obvious now that won't happen."

And to add to this, if Bell gets dumped after the draft when rosters have already been set with the draft and FA signings, he's not getting his 17 million per year or whatever he's asking. A team like the Browns with deep cap space will likely already have Barkely, so why would they need Bell? At that point there's less likely to be a huge bidding war for Bell's services.

I'm thinking. yeah we lose some getting rid of leveon. But look at Fournette. Yes I know he was top talent.

How hard can it be to be a RB in this offense with these weapons around you?

just thoughts.

This is said to be a deep RB class.

I hope they walk from this ego maniac! Been saying in conversation n then read on PG, what would be the Steelers smartest course of action and the plan is aided by Bell's narsusism in not signing tag, which would go like this...

Take all the cap space created to cover Bell's ridiculous tag number and sign an ILB, RB (Hyde, Lewis, McKinnon, Crowell) and maybe even have enough to sign a free agent S? Then pull tag off Bell. Lastly, still draft a ILB, S n RB on rounds 1 through 3, but with much more flexibility to at least take BPA among those positions.

That would give so much quality n depth at all 3 spots and an overall improved team from last year's version!!! Let. Bell go sign with the Browns! Rather they have him than Barkley!!!

They can''t trade him until he signs the tag and he agrees to the trade. They should have used the non-exclusive tag and told him to go find a trade partner if someone is out there. I guess they could do the same thing now but unless he agrees to the trade and gets his money with the new team, it ain't happening.

Eh football careers are short lived. Whatev.

Steelers need team first players in the locker room.
Loved Bell for what he brought. Best of luck to him.

If comes the draft, and Keyron Johnson or Ken Ballage are available at the right spot, who knows. Won’t be Le’Veon, who is? They both have similar skill sets. But if that is the option they see, grab one and pull the tag. Pitt would still get something like a 3rd. No one is giving 2 firsts.

I want no part of Ballage. He runs VERY high and has NO vision.

if we could turn back time and have DeAngelo from a few years back, I'd be ready to let Bell go without any second thought.

if we're honest, we can see that our offense doesn't seem to have the same rhythm that it does without Bell on the field. Not to say that he's worth $14.5 mil, or isn't worth $14.5 mil, but our offense is better when he is in the game. I don't think any of us want to see Toussaint flopping around out there any more than we have to.

That said, if there is not an agreement met and we're going into the draft with his *** threatening to sit out until Week 10, I'd be looking to snag Sony Michel in Round 2. Similar style of play, speed, hands.

Get someone in 2 and bring in a RB like they did last year. That would give them three options.

Money you saved with Bell would get you a ILBer and a FS. Maybe even a RB....

They said the same thing about Bell...high waisted, questionable vision/decision making. AND that he had high mileage.

They are not in Bell’s class for sure Kev, but we won’t get anything closer. I really don’t think they let Bell go. Dejan at DK brought this up, the QB, very expensive OL, loaded WR group and now unhindered offensive play calling is built around how they all operate together as a whole. To start with someone new will jeopardize that continuity. They will let him play in 2018, and say goodbye in 2019.

Le'Veon Bell Threatens to Sit Out 2018 Season After Steelers Use Franchise Tag

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-2018-season-after-steelers-use-franchise-tag

Oh sure, he won't show up for game checks.

If I were Rooney I would trade him fast. Trial it with some teams via tag and trade ( got that Ike ) then send it to Bell's agent for approval. If nobody bites, withdraw the franchise tag and spend 14.5 million in free agency.

I guaranteed you whomever the Steelers use as primary if Bell departs will average 4.0 or better per rush for the season. 4.0 yards per rush is what Bell did last year.

I don't care what he says. It matters what he does.

If he actually sits out of games, that is where the line is drawn. I don;t give any ***** about whether he is in camp, OTA's or whatever.

Except for the fact that he was lousy for the first 4 weeks of the season after sitting out all training camp last year. If you don't mind that then sure let him sit out again. If he does it again I would split carries 50/50 with Conner or whoever for the first 3 or 4 games next year.

I had enough of this diva stuff early last year. I am starting to think that one of the priorities for righting the ship should be to get Bell and Bryant along with their "me first" attitudes the hell out of the locker room ASAP. I think it has been detrimental to the team and I certainly won't cry if they move on from one or both of them.
