"Today I've come back to this incredible state to spend an afternoon with it's amazing citizens," Mr. Trump said, recalling the beginnings of his "tax tour" in Missouri.

The president praised the House for its passage of their tax overhaul bill, and promised that the Senate's version, which is expected to come to a floor vote this week, will be popular with the American people.

"Massive tax cuts and reform, I don't even mention the word reform," Mr. Trump said.

"America will win again like never ever before. A vote to cut taxes is a vote to put America first again," he later said.

The president touted "Main Street" as "the heart of our economy" and promised that the GOP tax plan would bring back money to small towns and provide tax cuts for American families as well as small businesses.

"I will tell you this in a non-braggadocious way: there has never been a ten month president that has accomplished what we have accomplished, that I can tell you," he said.

"We're going to make sure that you take more of your hard earned money," he said

Except Dutch officials have said that the attacker in the video was neither a Muslim nor a migrant, but someone born and raised in the Netherlands.

Dutch media had long confirmed that the video did not portray Muslim violence, but the Netherlands Embassy brought the facts to Trump directly on Twitter by replying to his tweet. “Facts do matter,” the embassy said. “The perpetrator of the violent act in this video was born and raised in the Netherlands. He received and completed his sentence under Dutch law.”

Mary Evans Seeley's book Season's Greetings from the White House: The Collection of Presidential Christmas Cards, Messages, and Gifts shows that "Season's Greetings" was used on White House holiday correspondence by no less than Dwight D. Eisenhower in the 1950s. Likewise, Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Reagan, and Clinton all took care, as well, not to alienate non-Christian recipients of holiday mail. Few people expressed a problem with this long-standing practice until now.

WASHINGTON — In the weeks before Donald J. Trump took office, lawyers joining his administration gathered at a law firm near the Capitol, where Donald F. McGahn II, the soon-to-be White House counsel, filled a white board with a secret battle plan to fill the federal appeals courts with young and deeply conservative judges.

Mr. McGahn, instructed by Mr. Trump to maximize the opportunity to reshape the judiciary, mapped out potential nominees and a strategy, according to two people familiar with the effort: Start by filling vacancies on appeals courts with multiple openings and where Democratic senators up for re-election next year in states won by Mr. Trump — like Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania — could be pressured not to block his nominees. And to speed them through confirmation, avoid clogging the Senate with too many nominees for the district courts, where legal philosophy is less crucial.

Nearly a year later, that plan is coming to fruition. Mr. Trump has already appointed eight appellate judges, the most this early in a presidency since Richard M. Nixon, and on Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted along party lines to send a ninth appellate nominee — Mr. Trump’s deputy White House counsel, Gregory Katsas — to the floor.

Republicans are systematically filling appellate seats they held open during President Barack Obama’s final two years in office with a particularly conservative group of judges with life tenure.

Democrats — who in late 2013 abolished the ability of 41 lawmakers to block such nominees with a filibuster, then quickly lost control of the Senate — have scant power to stop them.

Get Ready for Concealed Carry Guns in All 50 States?!

The House Judiciary Committee late Wednesday voted 19-11 for the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, which would amend the federal criminal code to allow the concealed transport of handguns across state lines, so long as both states allow it. States will not be able to impose their individual requirements for a concealed carry license on armed travelers from other states.

The bill, which has more than 200 co-sponsors, almost all Republicans, now heads for the floor of the 435-member House. A similar bill, with 38 Republican co-sponsors, is pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee. A slew of amendments brought by Democrats were shot down.

The legislation allows firearm owners with a concealed carry permit issued by their home state to carry the firearm into any other state (all allow some form of concealed carry, although many are highly restrictive). The gun owners wouldn’t have to reveal they are carrying a weapon, though the bill does require they be eligible to possess a firearm under federal law (which requires a background check), carry a valid photo identification and a concealed carry permit. Gun owners from states that don’t require a concealed carry permit will need to obtain some credential from their home state to take advantage of the new law’s provisions. What form that would take isn’t specified in the House bill.

“This would end abuses in anti-gun states like New York and New Jersey and allow law-abiding concealed carriers to exercise their rights nationwide with peace of mind,” the NRA states. “[The bill] would not, as some critics claim, affect how states issue their own concealed carry permits.”

The measure would not include a fix for so-called Dreamers, something Democrats have demanded be part of any spending bill.

Trump was open to the idea of a short-term continuing resolution during a White House meeting with GOP leaders, according to multiple Hill and White House sources familiar with the meeting.

While the plan hasn’t been finalized, the House would move first under this scenario, passing a bill with only Republican votes. The Senate would then try to follow suit, but it would need to pick off at least eight Senate Democrats to clear the chamber’s higher 60-vote threshold. Republicans believe that Schumer would come under heavy pressure from his own colleagues to avoid being blamed for a shutdown, GOP aides said.

The economic expansion is projected to continue in 2018 and 2019. Buoyant asset prices and strong business and consumer confidence will support consumption and investment growth. The impact of slowing employment growth on consumption will be partly offset by wage growth acceleration as the labor market tightens further.

Fiscal policy is projected to become more supportive in 2018 as measures are assumed to be introduced lowering tax rates on corporate and personal income and stimulating investment and consumption. At a time when unemployment is at its lowest level since 2000, the assumed fiscal boost will also contribute to further wage growth, thereby providing the conditions for monetary policy to continue normalizing gradually. Policies to help people return to employment would underpin stronger growth of activity while reducing inequalities. Deregulation and tax reform would support stronger investment and help lift productivity.

Financial stability has strengthened since the crisis and regulatory oversight has improved considerably, but vulnerabilities have emerged during the extended period of exceptional monetary easing. In particular, asset prices are elevated and high leverage exposes the corporate sector to shocks. House prices exceed pre-crisis levels in several big cities. Although regulatory oversight imposes a burden on some financial firms, reforms to minimize these burdens need to ensure that vulnerabilities are not allowed to build up further.
