Ten Greatest Steelers of All Time

Franco stole victory from the jaws of defeat to give the Steelers their first ever franchise playoff victory nearly 40 years from their start. The Immaculate reception alone puts him in the top 10. That and his 4 SB rings that followed...

Plus he was the reason why the Steelers won their first. He and the D of course!

Definitely the D. When I think Steelers football. Lambert and Mean Joe are the faces of the organization.
The Rooney's have built a legendary franchise that has had a field full of great players.

Always fun to see these threads and get all your guys' perspective.
But Franco's catch was beautiful

1) No way should ANY active player be on any all-time list. Please let their career runs its full course first.
B) No Ernie Stautner automatically voids the list
III) I think there is something to say about playing the entire career in Pittsburgh only
Lastly) Not one single WR? Hines or Stallworth should be here.

I gotta put Hines Ward in that top 10 list somewhere. With the history of this team and the 6 championships, its hard to pick just top 10 anyways. Why not expand it to top 25 or setup the first, second and third all time team players.

So you leave out the quarterback of the four Super Bowl-winning teams of the '70's?

Then you've listed your 10 favorite Steelers of all time, but not the greatest 10.

This is a subjective opinion. A strong argument could be made for about 30 guys. I chose Ben over Brad because I think he is overall a better player. Yes Brad won 4 rings, but by your logic then only 1970s players should be in the top 10. If I were listing my FAVORITE players, Bradshaw, Rocky, Kevin Greene, Villanueva would all beat out Ben.

And his stats for the fourth quarter of the four SB wins were:

11 of 16, 292 yards, four TDs. 18 yards per pass. Passer rating: 151

Plus two SB MVP Awards.

Ben has been mediocre in his SB appearances, while Bradshaw excelled. And he did it in an era when DBs could tee off on receivers.

Case closed.

Bradshaw had a 100 QB rating in every Super Bowl and threw a 4th quarter TD pass in every 4th quarter. On the biggest stage the was the best QB in the game .Ben.... not so much

Darn right.

You could have a modern-day roster of 53 and still leave out some terrific players.

A while back I did a top 50 Steelers. I'd add in Tomlin and Timmons now.

Here is a list of my top 40 Steelers of all time since the AFL-NFL merger.

The rankings are based on three criteria. **Relative performance to their peers 50%, key to winning a championship for the Steelers,30% ,and longevity on the Steelers. 20%

Dirt Dawson definitely in my top 10,I don't buy this **** about no ring.
He'd have one if not for Neil O'dummel!

Or if Andre Hastings ran the correct route. We played a dynasty level Cowboys team in their prime and had them on the ropes. Sure I was pissed as H@ll when it happened, but many years later I admire the team effort in this game.

Corey Holliday. The only starter not injured by the end of this game was Yancey Thigpen. People forget how injured the WRs were, and yet the Steelers were in the game until the end.

May want to go back and watch Super Bowl !X , Franco had 158 yards , a Super Bowl record that stood for a long time. Without Franco there is no dynsasty, he would be unstoppable in todays watered down NFL where run defense is an afterthought.

Plus Franco STILL holds the all-time total SB rushing record. 354 Yards total yards in four SBs. #2 is Larry Csonka, #3 Emmitt Smith.

Like I said...top 15.

A while back I did a top 50 Steelers...Chuck Noll - Coach...

Outstanding list.

Just when I thought you left someone out, there he was. (Tempting to put Barry Foster on the list since he still holds the team's single-season rushing record. But a short career keeps him off.)

Nicely done.

Wrong. Bradshaw and the passing game won the lwoB repuSs along with the best D in the sport.

You misundersood what I was saying.

He made the offense go - in general - for those teams, during those four seasons (and others). Moved the chains, set up the passing game for Bradshaw. I didn't mean specifically in the SBs. But as JGP77 pointed out, he was money in at least one.

I can't even make a top 10 list without leaving guys off who should be in the top 10.
