Tomlin says team won't change philosophy just to beat the cheatriots.

Here's the Dulac story in its entirety

http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/...er/stories/201703270158?pgpageversion=pgevoke

A couple other interesting notes that I took away from it.

1. Tomlin constantly talked about man coverage, but he never drafts man-to-man corners.... I don't get that.

2. Very curious about Jim Kelly and Roethlisberger having a hunting trip together. You wonder if Kelly is involved or communicates with other Steelers or front office people and whether that leads to any interest in his nephew, Chad Kelly in this draft.

It's unfortunate because I thought we had the chance to be that great, but it wasn't in the cards. Belichick is better than anyone we have and Brady is better than Roethlisberger. All the other pieces don't mean as much as we make it out.

Nah, New England was lucky to win is last two super bowls because the other teams were stupid. Then they made a long FG to win another super bowl. And they have lost superbowls.

The blue print to beat them is to pressure Brady, not sit back in a soft zone. Everybody but Tomlin and Butler knows that.

They definitely were lucky to win several SBs but they also never quit and adjusted to what their opponent was doing in each of those games. We did not make the necessary adjustments in the AFCCG. Its hard to say whether we had the personnel or not to go man to man and still get to Brady. I know this though, you can't play zone against those guys. You have to hit the receiver at the line of scrimmage and mess with Brady's timing. This was a great shot to take them out as they were missing Gronk. Next year Gronk will be out there and he's a weapon very few have an answer for.

Tomlin will not change philosophy just to beat the Patriots.....obviously.

He's not going to come out and say we are totally building and scheming to beat NE. Having said that, if we play that same ******* **** *** D against them, he should be kicked out the stadium right there. We supposedly didn't have the personnel to play that kind of D last season, so all we added was Sensabaugh, so does a mid level FA suddenly make us capable of man defense?

Everybody? Cowher didn't seem to know it and he had way better Defenses than Tomlin, right? Seems like they only lost 2 games in 2016, so, maybe, "everybody" is a stretch? In 2009, they lost 6 games in the season. They haven't lost more than 4 games in a season since. Wow, everybody but Tomlin is kicking their *****!!

Not sure what Cowher has to do with this? That was a totally different NE team then and now.

No many teams don't beat them, but the point is the teams that have beat them all played the same style defense vs them. I think that's what was meant by everybody.

Blitzburgh is so dead right now it's fossilized

thank the Gods for James Harrison

amen

Tomlin also stressed the Steelers need to get better at playing man to man and getting players who can play man to man and also being able to rush the QB with just 4.

Oh, BS, it IS the same team. Same cheating coach, same cheating QB.

No, the point was Coach (and others) seem to think only Tomlin is the idiot who can't figure it out, i.e. everyone but Tomlin in Butler. its the same ****, different color. Clearly, based upon their record, "everyone" isn't doing such a good job of it. Remember the 2015 early game that Gronk scored 3 or 4 times in the game against us? Rex Ryan made a big deal about his team would be able to stop Gronk. People here were gobbling that **** down like ice cream "Ryan knows what's what" kind of ****. Then the *'s, sure enough, Gronk doesn't score that many times but everyone else was able to. The great Rex Ryan, obviously, more knowledgeable than that idiot Tomlin got rolled, on for 40 points. As a matter of fact, it was 7 games later that the *'s scored less points than they did against us.

So, again, his "everybody" can see it is stupidity, or intellectual dishonesty at it's finest. In the first game last year, one with Landry, the Offense scored 16 points. In the second meeting, with Ben, for without him Tomlin would be eating **** out of a cup with two girls on Youtube, the offense scored....17, only scoring the second TD with 3:36 left in the game. one more point.

Wasn't Burns drafted for that purpose? Suppose, as a rookie, he might not have, quite, been ready for that and, after a year experience, might be?

NE had one of the best D's in the NFL while Cowher was here, they weren't a throw it 50 times a game team, that's why I said they were different.

We scored 17 with Ben, along with 4 TDs being dropped or overturned. Coates dropped one, Hamilton dropped one, Hamilton ran out of bounds and came back in on another Td called back, James didn't get the ball over the goal line and that one was overturned.
The entire game plan revolved around Bell, and so did NEs defensive game plan, once Bell went out NE adjusted to Brown and we had no other WRs that could make a damn play, but it really didn't matter NEs O could've scored as many as they needed.

Then why did he draft so many corners who did not fit this deception, and were better off in zone? Please tell is Antdrewjosh.

Ben will likely be gone in by the 2019 season. Once this happens I predict Tomlin mistakes, which are often masked or forgotten about because we win more game than we lose will become a bigger issue.

Until then, we could really use better coaching in the playoffs.

This... Offensively They "sorta" did what they needed to do to stay in the game had the younger guys not **** the bed so utterly. Coates "TD" may have only been good for a FG but still, you're looking at a good 19 to 24 pts left on the field there. They didn't kick our ***** quite that badly.

The defensive game plan was God-Awful. Just God-Awful.

He absolutely was, and he played man throughout the season some including vs the guy from KC that's faster than anyone NE has, but what about Cockrell and Gay, we know they can't cover those quick guys, and leaving 4 LBs in coverage alot was a disaster

I wasn't aware Dick lebeau wasn't the DC up until 2 years ago. Weren't we keeping the same schemes under lebeau when Tomlin was hired. Wouldn't that dictate we draft zone corners. Now he is gone just two years and lo an behold the first pick was a corner who can play man to man. You don't change a scheme overnite it's a process.

But no one sees the irony in their statements when they spew them. Ben Ben Ben..like when we play the Patriots he is putting up 300 yd and 4 TD games and losing shootouts.

2002 first game of the season who was the coach and NE didn't run the ball and kicked our ***. Guess you missed that game

A good coach puts the players in the best position to achieve success based on the opponent he is playing and is not pigeon holed by a scheme.

Furthermore, he learns how to beat other teams by studying the films of the other teams that offered a blue print.

Maybe if we had a new head coach, with the same problem you'd see my point.

Prove that statement please tell me about one coach who drastically changed their scheme to win a game without months to implement that scheme

Belichick highlighted a time in 1990 when he changed the Giants defensive alignments every week in the playoffs, from 4-3 against the Bears, to 3-4 against the 49ers, and to 3-3-nickel against the Bills in the Super Bowl. There is no higher leverage point in the season than the playoffs and Belichick had his defense change their strategy every week.

Also changing your front or defensive alignment is not the same as changing your scheme. You can line up in a different front and run the same plays. Going from a zone blitz scheme and then playing man to man is like a run heavy team that lines up with a fullback all year coming out in shotgun and throwing the ball damn near every down.
