Court documents reveal new details about arrest of Steelers assistant coach Joey Porter

Steelers assistant coach Joey Porter argued with the doorman at a South Side bar Sunday night and then struggled with an officer who tried to intervene, according to court documents.

Mr. Porter, also a former player for the team, was arraigned shortly before 2 a.m. today on charges of assault, resisting arrest, trespassing and disorderly conduct. Court records show that he posted $25,000 bail with help from an agency. He could not immediately be reached for comment.

According to a criminal complaint filed early today, Pittsburgh police Officer Paul Abel was working an off-duty assignment at a bar in the South Side when another off-duty officer informed him that "the doorman for the Flats, located at 1500 E. Carson St., was being threatened by a Pittsburgh Steeler."

Officer Abel wrote that he went to the Flats and saw Mr. Porter "standing over the door man, later identified as Jon Neskow." Mr. Neskow told Mr. Porter, "Last time you (Porter) were here, you threatened to kill me. You need to leave. You are not getting in," according to the complaint.

Officer Abel wrote that he asked what was happening, but Mr. Porter did not respond and several men, who are not identified in court documents, said, "Officer, we got him. We got him."

"As soon as these...males stated this, Porter lunged at Neskow and grasped Neskow by his arms and lifting him up off the ground," according to the complaint.

Officer Abel wrote that he, with help from the unidentified men, grabbed Mr. Porter by the jacket to pull him off of the doorman.

"Porter let go of Neskow dropping him back down to the ground. Porter came to rest against a car parked directly in front of the establishment," according to the complaint.

Officer Abel wrote that Porter, who is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs about 260 pounds, grabbed him by the wrists and smelled of alcohol. Officer Abel wrote that he is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 145 pounds.

"Porter informed me that he was not touching me, as he was still holding my wrists," Officer Abel wrote. He wrote that Mr. Porter then asked, "Did you hear what he (Neskow) said to me?"

The unidentified men again said, "We got him, Officer. We got him, Officer" and Mr. Porter then "suddenly released" Officer Abel and started backing away into East Carson Street, according to court paperwork.

Officer Abel wrote that he requested back-up and then unzipped his coat "allowing me access to my City of Pittsburgh issued Body Worn Camera, and activated it at this time."

Officer Abel wrote that he followed Mr. Porter until other officers arrived, and Mr. Porter shouted at various times, "No, you are going too far now" or "No! No! I didn't do anything."

After he was handcuffed, Mr. Porter yelled, 'You're lying! I never touched you," according to the complaint.

Officer Abel wrote that neither he nor the doorman were injured during the encounter, but did write that at one point, "I believed that [Mr. Porter] was going to cause me serious injury." Police wrote that Mr. Porter did not appear to be injured or complain of any pain when they transported him to the jail.

Craig Johnston, of the South Side, was walking home Sunday night when the scene unfolded in front of him. He said Mr. Porter and a Pittsburgh police officer argued, with Mr. Porter repeatedly saying, "I didn't put my hands on him."

Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten issued the following statement Sunday night: "We are aware of an incident tonight involving Joey Porter. We are still gathering information as it pertains to the situation, and we will have no further comment until we get more details.”

ALL this and the fact that the Rooney's still run this team leads me to believe that the Steelers will decide that it does not need it's players being lead by this kind of example....jus sayin'.

Peezy is a beloved member of this organization BUT even if he was a super star coach, which he isn't, that's strike three....or more really.

HOLD UP... an OFF DUTY officer has a city issued body cam on his person, but waits until AFTER the so called altercation took place to activate it? Not saying Porter is a saint by any means here, but seriously? We're just gonna ignore tha???

Joey is 40 by now, you'd think he would have grown up some. Disappointed.

I like to think that the Rooneys will deal with him behind the scenes. I still credit him for making more plays (drawing the penalty) in the Bungles game last year than some of the players on the field did, so he is very valuable to the team, IMO.

Jon Neskow is a smartass punk and deserves to get his arse kicked............
West Virginia grad piece of sheet.

Yeah seems a bit odd.

I was thinking the same thing.. kinda weird.

Obviously they had something against him. You don't just arrest Joey ******* Porter in Pittsburgh. He's a legend and you'd figure he would have a looooong leash. Especially the night after a playoff win in Pittsburgh. Seems like the cop was trying to make a name for himself.

Two things..

This sounds blown way out of proportion, so he picked a bouncer up (didn't push him or punch him) and I'm sure the bouncer wasn't just standing there not saying stuff to Porter.

Secondly, how does a big city such as Pittsburgh have a police officer the size of a 6th grader. Something tells me, that little guy might take advantage of his police authority in the wrong sense once in a while.

All that being said... Joey shouldn't be out drinking at 1-2am and if he truly did put his hands on the officer then that's just not smart, can't be doing that.

I'm not that impressed with his coaching ability either. I mean he is about average. I know talent has a lot to do with it but he hasn't shown any thing spectaculars as far as our OLBs go. Maybe he is making gold out of straw with the players he has but I don't see it. I like Joey a lot but also realize that players may not make the best coaches either.

Salute the nation
You mean like uhh Mike Munchalk, Bill Cowher, Chuck Noll?

If I were the management I'd make him apologize, donate, do public service, etc and give him One more chance. He'd definitely be in a short leash but you got to give him the opportunity to be a better person and a real professional coach

^^^
He just acted a drunken fool. All is forgiven

1) Nothing good, rarely ever happens when out drinking after midnight.

2) Someone thought that they had a license to act like a prick.

3) Someone has buddies who are off duty police officers who bounce on the Southside.

4) Someone had an axe to grind from a previous encounter and started this encounter.

5) That someone isn't Peezy.

Sounds like some not too smart Jagoff "Doorman" with a bouncer badge, a vastly over inflated authoritative complex, and a boner for Peezy was seeking retribution for a previous incident.

Still, Peezy should of known better..........See #1

And not so smart Jagoff should have just let him in the bar.......and none of this happens.

I think it was reported to be 9:30 PM but Peezey shouldn't be out getting gassed up and allowing himself to get into situations with "bouncers" and cops, there's too much work ahead and the Rooney family doesn't take to this kind of negative attention from members of the Club.
A good lawyer will shred most of this considering there are witnesses. Hopefully Joey Porter will wake up and learn from this and his lawyer gets him down to misdemeanor charge(s).

Joey needs to stay out of the South Side and find some more respectable places to chill. He's a grown man for crissake and now has to take on this sheet sandwich. The team is in a ffoyaplp hunt Peezy, WTF is wrong with you??

And why the fock does a dog **** bar like "The Flats" need a bouncer on a Sunday night anyway.
The place is about the size of a phone booth. Another wannabe bouncer with little big man syndrome.

This all happened around 8:30pm on Sunday. He was arraigned shortly before 2 a.m. this morning (Monday) so he wasn't out too late. Doesn't excuse him for anything he was still acting a fool.

BTW was I the only one to smile when I read he picked the bouncer off the ground by his arms? I wish he wouldn't have but still kind of funny.

I don't know about yinz, but I don't fight to spend my money at places that don't want me or have treated me badly.

Ive seen bouncers start more crap than prevent it in my lifetime... not sure that was the case here but who knows

If I was the bar or the bouncer I would not want this type of publicity........especially in Pittsburgh, especially now in this day and age of social media.

They better hope that their side of the story holds up, they are about to get a crapload of scrutiny.

Oh BTW from The Flats soon to be edited Facebook page;

Visited this bar while on business. During the night, a fight broke out in the middle of the bar resulting in several broken bottles/glasses. After the altercation, I informed the bartender there was a large amount of broke glass on the floor. The response I received was "No Sh!t" and then he went back to serving drinks. By the end of the night the glass was still littering the floor. To top things, I reviewed my credit card statement the following week and discovered they added a 20% tip even though the signed receipt clearly indicates I left a cash tip.

Innocent or guilty doesn't matter at this point. Porter has had a bit of history of getting in trouble where alcohol is involved.
I think he needs to come to terms with an alcohol problem.

So the bouncer should have said "Oh, there's the guy that threatened to kill me the last time he was here... he's cool."?

The bouncer isn't the one who was drunk. Joey Porter is way too ******* old to be getting arrested. He should have realized he was going to be denied entrance.

I went to this bar over the weekend for my 24th birthday with a group of my girlfriends. An older man, at least 55 kept approaching us and touching our backs trying to make us dance and buy us drinks. When I told him we weren't interested he proceeded to grab my arm hard enough that it bruised instantly and poured a drink on my head. I shoved him off of me and I GOT ESCORTED OUT OF THE BAR FOR AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR. I told the bouncers I would gladly leave on my own as they were forcefully pushing me down the stairs and grabbing my arm where the man has just grabbed me. The bouncers told me I was too aggressive but when the cops asked the bouncer why I got escorted out they just shrugged their shoulders. They left that man in their and then the cops that were on the security for the bar said "it happens". I've never felt so disrespected in my life. #itshouldnthappen
