Member of organization tells me they like him, but he's too expensive right now. Hoping price falls.

Hope he realizes he has a chance at a ring here. He's been paid already. Play for the trophy

We could resign Spence, Garvin and Todmann for less than Weddle will get...Id take some depth over an aging past prime cast off

We have no starting SS, I would take Weddle over all of them put together.

Adding Weddle next to Mitchell makes our secondary look pretty good if we can add the right pieces at corner. Don't underestimate how much NOT having a Troy Polamalu type player showed our ****** secondary.

SS and Blake's corner was arguably the weakest areas on D.
..........Upgrade both of those spots will give the D a fighting chance to get off the field....

I was going to say, they cost that much less than Weddle for a good reason.

I'd argue that there is no good reason.

You really want to overpay for a 31 year old Safety? Hell, even Polamalu 'retired' at the age of 33.

who is to say they will overpay?

i think he could be signed with his age in consideration.

Remember all th TE's that ***** slapped the Steelers secondary?

Weddle would be a solid signing for the right price...

Our front office will make the right decision on Weddle, price high or price low...........

Salute the nation

I don't get the fascination with Weddle, but if his price drops and he does sign here I will be the first person in line cheering him on.

Weddle feels to me like the name brand free agent that doesnt ever live up to the bill.. He is the wrong age to be tossing big bills at... Cheap great... But id literally rather go in to the season with golden and mitchell and a draft pick or two than spend big bills there

Same here, I have never seen great range from him and he is old and we need speed in the back end.

He's a tempting player. As inside the building says... it's really about price and commitment.

I'm not so worried about whether he fits (he would), but rather his ability to stay injury free at such a physical position. You might lose some good depth for a player that could easily spend 2016 dinged and nicked up and not contribute nearly what you think or you gain a starter that loves the new scenery, the fans and potentially a deep playoff run.

This is the type of player New England would get to "make a run" even with their conservative nature in free agency. Do the Steelers? Time will tell.

I think at this point, if we're 6 mil under the cap even after all these resignings and they just asked Cortez Allen to take a pay cut.. They're going after him. I think 8 mil a year might be the target and wouldn't surprise me if they make it happen.

You could sign Weddle and still draft a young guy if one is available. Learn under Weddle and help on special teams. Some good safeties in this draft.

I just feel a team that is so close needs to bring in experience a SS and CB.

And it also sets the team up for drafting BPA.............

I remember not in the distant past where we all said the same about gay. He was by far the worst corner we had. With lots of hard work he has become the most solid. Don't sleep blake.

At his age he is not worth more than 5 mil/yr on a 3 year deal. Oakland has a ton of $$$, so they will outbid others and probably sign him. I have no issues with drafting a solid safety in rds 2-3 and have him be behind Golden. I would love to get Weddle, but not for more than 5 mil/yr.

I think why many fans are hoping for Weddle is because the team isn't that far from winning #7, save for a fumble by a rookie the Steelers would have been in the AFCCG last year with a 2ndary ranked in the bottom 1/3 of the league. If the 2ndary can improve even marginally and bring it to average that should be enough to get them over the hump. If they get Weddle at a reasonable rate they could still draft the future SS and start preparing for the post Ben years, the Steelers need to strike now while Ben is still playing elite football. Like the Giants, the Steelers window is probably 3-4 years of what we watched this past season with Ben.

Weddle helps them now the team is SB competitive.

i would give him the same amount of lardarius green

Weddle is way past his prime. His tackles dropped off 30% last year with no turnovers of any kind. At 31 he's not going to find the fountain of youth so I would prefer waiting or signing Tyvon Branch at 29 who when healthy is a very good safety and with us signing Golden we can limit his snap count or at least monitor it wisely. I would take Todman, Garvin, and Spence with Branch over Weddle.

Here's my question. The Steeler window, realistically, is 3-4 years, the offense is SB caliber and the defense is not, more specifically, the 2ndary is not SB caliber. Even with Weddle's reduced production and age what gives the Steelers a better chance at winning the SB in the next 3-4 years, an experienced and not completely done Weddle or a rookie SS? IMO, it's Weddle, now, they can't break the bank for him, but he definitely fits in the window of opportunity. The 2ndary needs to be average, they just can't be bottom 1/3, IMO.

Agree, for more than that better get a CB or re-sign beachum
