Williams should have been pulled in the third quarter.

Did Tomlin forget last year when we were eliminated in the first round? Its not all about miles, Bell is 23, he got hurt last year and it cost us a potential playoff run, Thats why Williams is here. The fact is behind Williams, we have ZERO depth at RB. Who the hell is Toussant? Do you really need the one and only nfl caliber back in the game carrying the ball with a double digit lead in the 4th quarter? Would it hurt to give your backups some garbage time touches?

Bell didn't get hurt because of "meaningless" touches, Bell got hurt on a pass play in a tight game that we needed to win. Just like Bell getting hurt this year wasn't in garbage time, it was again against the Bengals in a close game. Injuries just happen, you can't be so paranoid about them that you start pulling players for no reason.

DeAngelo Williams had a whopping 6 touches in the fourth quarter...and they did get the back ups some touches, and then Brown ran a punt back for a TD so the offense didn't need to go back onto the field.

Don't agree that Williams is in Bell's league.... but he is about as solid as a backup as you can have.

If Bell was 1A, have no problem with Williams being 1B.

He doesn't have Bell's patience and pass catching ability, but you can get it done with Williams.

I will of course be happy to have Bell back next year leading the charge.

As far as this year? Like was mentioned he doesn't have 30 plus touches a game average. And the playoffs are inching closer we need for him to be in a groove....

Saying that I am ok with what they gave him last night.

Not once did I watch the game last night and think, "boy, they need to quit giving Williams the ball."

You would have had he suffered a major injury in the meaningless 4th and we went to face the Bungles and Donkeys with Toussaint and Todmann.

We are in a fight for our playoff lives and preserving a 32 year old key cog to the offense as we head into a 4 game stretch where we must win a minimum of 3 to even have a chance seems logical, but who cares run em till the wheels fall off. Let's live in our hopes awhile and I'm sure we'll rack up the playoff wins like we have been, err

By the mid of the 4th, I probably would have pulled guys too, especially Ben since he's been so banged up this year.

They did, we just didn't get to see much of it because Brown ran that punt back. Toussaint replaced Williams on the last FG series, we stopped them, they punted, Brown ran it back, we stopped them again on fourth down, Jones came in for victory formation. You could tell Ben was done for the night even on Browns punt return, he didn't have his helmet near him at all. Walking around with a towel around his neck, Jones however had his helmet and had been warming up.

OK, that makes sense.

least you forget, run them till the wheels come off. That applies to back-ups when your starter is done for the season.

Or he could suffer a knee injury on his first carry next week. That's football.

Suffering a knee injury on the first play of a game is not at all the same as getting hurt on a meaningless carry late in a blowout. That's football, but it's not smart football.

But I wouldn't expect anything different from a head coach who trotted Ben out there for three passing plays, starting on his own 12-yard line, down by three scores, with two minutes left in the game against a San Francisco defense who'd only allowed three points all night. After the guy gutted it out on a sprained left ankle and had been in a walking boot during the week.

Somehow it's not surprising.

Let's see we won 45-10. We totally dominated. There were no controversial(kicking the FG) or stupid decisions(fake FG) made so let's make up one and harp on it all week.

Don't think anyone is really "harping on" leaving players out there too long, but it's not made up, either. Rather, it's congruous with past actions that some of us simply can't understand.

The Steelers have exactly zero depth at running back, and risking an injury at that point of the game makes no sense. But you're right. They blew the Colts out, DWill is just fine, and there's nothing to see here. Tomlin rulz!

I think the point antdrewjosh is making is that it's always something negative about every game.
Tomlin makes mistakes as we all know but the constant blaming of him for everything is overplayed..
We lose, it's Tomlin's fault. We win 45-10, we won despite Tomlin but since it was a win, let's talk about how bad of coach he is because he kept the starters in.
Since people love to talk about how great of a coach Bellichick is, I've seen Patriots up huge in the 4th and they keep Brady in along with taking shots down field as if it were a close game.

Bellicheat is a clown that's never won anything without cheating and never won anything without Brady...coincidence?
F Bellicheat and the stolen horse he ride in on.

I do blame Tomlin for not having the Steelers in playoff position right now. It's not overplayed, it's reality. His poor choices have played a major part in two division losses and another winnable game at Seattle...but some people like to point the finger at anyone and anything else. Win or lose, I like to analyze coaching decisions independently.

I enjoyed the blowout victory as much as the next guy, and I'm glad that no one got hurt late in the game. The fact remains, however, that unnecessary risk was taken. And while I don't agree with Belichick's approach either, in 15 years, Brady has had exactly one injury which caused him to miss any games. Ben and DeAngelo, on the other hand, have had long injury histories.

And here we go again, it's Tomlins fault every time.

I think Tomlin was wrong in the Seattle game, we should have gone for it on fourth and goal instead of taking the 3, but there was more wrong in that game than just that situation, one being the refs weren't calling jack ****. That game should never have even got to that point. We had just stopped Seattle on their first two drives in the second half, two three and outs, then Sherman shoves Brown down and gets the INT and the entire game changed.

I'm not going to fault Tomlin on the Baltimore game, Scobee makes ONE of the two field goals he missed in the final two minutes of the game and it never goes to OT and we win.

And I'm not going to blame Tomlin for the Cinci game either, that one goes to Ben. By far his worst game in years, and they still BARELY beat us.

Good coaches

1) have their team prepared to play on gameday
2) know how to adjust on gameday
3) know how to manage within the game to give their players the best opportunity to win
4) know how to manipulate the clock to their advantage
5) have the ability to identify talent on the roster
6) have a personality that inspires players to give max effort
7) ability to right the ship when on collision course

Tomlin does have a few of these traits, I just live in my hopes and hope for more tho

I don't fault Tomlin for the field goal attempt vs. Seattle. To me, that was a 50-50 call...hard to argue either way but when you lose the game everyone calls it a mistake. Even if Tomlin goes for it and we score...that means we are up by either 1 or 3 with 3 minutes to go. Why does anyone think our D would have stopped Seattle from winning the game when they have 3 minutes, 2 timeouts and are playing 4-down offense? They scored a TD against us in 3 plays when the first two were just clock-killers...

The only game that came down to a Tomlin decision was the San Diego game, on the road, with a backup QB. Last play of the game, a FG ties and a TD wins. We go for it. That's how we have an extra win this season huckleberries...

I would say not finishing the ravens game and going for it a couple times on fourth down with a back up qb was a Tomlin decision

Remember Scobee? The guy who missed FGs all game long.. you thought Tomlin should have trotted him back out there to miss another?
Tomlin was left with one decision and that is go for it. The only thing I see fault in that situation was not giving the ball to Leveon and letting Vick try to win it.

He missed two and made two. How about punting and trusting your defense to make a stop vs a poor offense, he had no problem putting his defense on the field vs Seattle who they didn't stop all second half. Or if you are going to go for it, instead of putting the ball in the hands of your back-up 34 year old QB who wasn't having that good of a game to begin with, you trust your RB who is viewed by most as one of the top 3 in NFL? And by all means you don't run your 34 year old QB on a sweep to the short side of the field. I love the idea of going for it in OT and giving the Ravens a short field when all the Ravens need is a FG to win it. We had the ball at their 39 in OT, I'd rather try to win the game on a 46 yard FG than let Vick try to convert a first down.
