Loosing steam, starting to die out.................. about to put a fork in it, but, just to note, the fat lady hasn't sang yet :)

Saw on Steelers Depot that Archer already has a Capital One commercial. He races 50 yards up and back against a geek making a Cap One mobile transaction. He loses.

I would not be surprised if it did. I did find the comparison with other third round picks interesting. There were several that looked like good picks that were busts. I was very surprised at Chris Hope not being one of the success stories, and have to disagree with that one.

I thought, over all, Max did a above the line job. He definitely had the right angle on the pay scale.

PITTSBURGH -- Strong safety Troy Polamalu, cornerback Ike Taylor, running back Dri Archer and outside linebacker Jason Worilds were among those who weren't at the Steelers' second offseason practice on Wednesday.

Organized team activities are voluntary and Archer, the Steelers' third-round draft pick earlier this month, has been absent this week because of an illness. Polamalu and Taylor missed the first OTA on Tuesday, and Polamalu isn't expected to practice with the Steelers until mandatory minicamp next month.
Rookie wide receiver Martavis Bryant was among the players fielding punts on Wednesday and the fourth-round pick said he would like an opportunity to help the Steelers in that phase of the game. Bryant, who has excellent speed, returned kickoffs at Clemson but not punts. He said he returned punts in high school. "I'd like to do it," Bryant said. "It's challenging and fun." Challenging is one word that can be used to describe the brief time that Bryant has spent with the Steelers so far. "I get down on myself sometimes because it's different," Bryant said, "but once I learn everything I'll be fine."
Mike Mitchell and Darrius Heyward-Bey were teammates for four seasons in Oakland and are good friends. Heyward-Bey will be among the wide receivers fighting for a roster spot in training camp and Mitchell expects big things from him. Heyward-Bey, the seventh overall pick of the 2009 draft, has struggled with drops throughout his career. "Darrius is a very hard worker and he's been through some adversity," Mitchell said, "but I'm totally confident he's going to be on this team and help us win football games."
Rookie Ryan Shazier has been running with the first-team defense at the linebacker spot where the Steelers once envisioned Sean Spence starting. Spence is working his way back from a career-threatening knee injury and the 2012 third-round draft pick has looked good in the Steelers' first two OTAs. But neither Spence nor the Steelers will know how much he will be able to contribute this season until the grind of training camp. Spence, who is from South Florida along with Shazier, said he is willing to do anything he can to help the first-round pick with the transition to the NFL. "It's all friendly competition," Spence said. "He is trying to better himself. I am here trying to better myself. He's a hometown guy. I am just happy to be working with him."

Hope it is nothing too serious. Missing OTA's for a young guy is a set back. If he does not pan out he might now be known as the set back, instead of the scat back.

Some questions surrounding his (non-manditory) absences. First reported he was sent home due to illness. Then, that Kent State is a quarters school, and he can't participate until 2014 graduation. Only Kent State's graduation occurred..... the day Archer was drafted. Then the story was once again illness. Only, now it's being reported that he left sick, only to show up today at the NFLPA's Rookie Premeire gala in LA. Who knows.

I don't know who/how it's decided who goes to that event, or if it's mandatory or not. Not all rookies go, but the ones selected to attend apparently are required to go. So, again, who knows. Just odd.

He found time to make a commercial in that time frame as well.

I can already tell he's just loving his 15 minutes of fame as being the fastest man at the combine, getting drafted and will just flame out into a "Who?" in about 2-3 seasons (some sarcasm there... but maybe not).

Yeah lets turn down a chance to make some money. Smh

The part I found interesting was Bryant returning punts. Didnt do it in college, hasnt done it since high school. WTF are these coaches thinking??

*sarcasm*

Never said turn down money, just doesn't make sense to me if you are too "ill" to be in non-contact OTA drills, you aren't "ill" enough to push off a 10-hour commercial shoot that makes you run around for a couple weeks.

What type of "illness" really explains that?

We've all heard of "Ill Advised", maybe his advised ill, is a little off?

Nope, if you weren't the primary punt return man in college you cannot do it in the nfl. We've already established this... :p

Anal glaucoma. He couldn't see his *** going to work that day.

Blowing off OTAs would be a pretty awful way to start a career. That said, this news seems to have made you disturbingly gleeful.

Exactly, there's no chance in hell Bryant will ever be able to return punts in the NFL. If he had any type of punt return ability he would have been the primary punt returner at Clemson. That was not the case, so obviously he has 0% chance of doing it here. No point in even bringing this up, it will never, ever happen.

When was this commercial filmed? The commercial and the rookie thing are two different things.

The plot thickens...

This is a non story. Teams are required to send one rookie. Archer was chosen. Nothing was blown off.

Time for Bermuda to complain about how long the thread is and post a picture!
(He secretly bet I would make it to 169 by the end of the season)
Then someone post some racist ****!

What exactly does this mean? Did your post add value to this stupidly long thread about a COMPENSATED PICK from the THIRD ROUND???

The commercial was first aired May 6th so I am assuming the commercial was recorded weeks earlier. I hope he has not been ill for over a month...
