WTF are we doing?

OUTSTANDING takes, sir.
Spot on all around.
I've had said for months to anyone who will listen ( which is nobody, per usual ) this QB class = Kenny FN Pickett draft class.
NOBODY worth a first.
Watch Mendoza tape then watch Will Howard tape from their final college years.
Then look at their IDENTICAL stats up and down the board.
Glad to see the Raiders keeping the overdraft reach alive from their Jamarcus Russell days to now.
Mendoza doesn't have the arm strength. He's noodle armed. Yeah he's a winner, but so were Tebow and Manziel.
And yes, I do believe next year's draft class is better than this year's.
Punt on QB in the draft this year, whether ARod comes back or not.
NO QB this year is worth a 1st, and we already have our project in Howard.

EXCELLENT post fedderone, appreciate yaz.

I want us to start the “moving” forward journey.

This Ben vs Rodgers is horse pocket Mecca the one’s retired and the other should be.

Regardless, get through this year with out huge expense at QB, next year’s draft is the true QB move up to get draft.

Last year at this time, everyone was saying the 2026 draft was the true QB draft, we passed on Dart.

I hear yaz SIR !!!

Last year everyone was looking and wishing for the future……..

Alas, nothing has changed so we all have to look and wish on the future again…………..

Rodgers isn’t ever taking us to the promised land. The only thing with him is we can all “hope” on what rubs off onto the rookies.

As you've already admitted, they don't include bad throws on highlight reels. Will Howard's highlight tape from the combine looks just great, too.

Yes, Rodgers can still make some nice throws while he's moving. He also made a shitload of inaccurate ones, too. This is backed up by both the eye test and his shltty accuracy statistics. Here's another stat line for you, since you enjoyed the first one so much:

CAY is Completed Air Yards. That's how far the pass is completed past the line of scrimmage. The top three quarterbacks in CAY per completion last season were Lamar Jackson (7.7), Drake Maye (7.5), and Matt Stafford (7.4). There were 33 qualifying QBs in 2025. Geno Smith was #32 at 4.3. Who was dead last? You guessed it -- Rodgers at a paltry 3.7. Less than half of the best number, and over a half yard less than the second-worst guy. Pathetic. And this only compounds how bad his overall on-target percentage was, a full percentage point below the league average, despite the ridiculous amount of short throws in that sample.
With DK and a bunch of scrubs...Smith not wanting to use Muth...lots of variables.

Agree on the variables, and I feel Muth is going to have a much bigger role in this year’s play.

That’s partly why we needed to move on from Rodgers, but maybe he can give us enough to keep the middle of the field active so as their defense has to actually prepare and guard it.

No QB in the first, please, if we don't trade up for a Buckeye defender, stay put and take the Penn St. guard.

agreed but yeah Ben

Last year at this time, everyone was saying the 2026 draft was the true QB draft, we passed on Dart.

I’ve made that point to many people.

Harmon seems like he could be a pretty solid/good pick, but when you weigh his value vs that which was passed up (Dart) that pick did not propel the squad as close to contention as solving the QB riddle would. Is Dart that guy? Maybe so, maybe not…time will tell.

Was I screaming for Dart when he fell into the Steelers lap, damn straight.

6th rounders and geriatrics do little to move the QB needle or solve the long lingering fatal flaw of the Steelers. Maybe the Steelers got lucky af and Howard turns out to be more than a serviceable QB2 (which even that role would be a huge hit for a 6th rounder QB). Again time will tell.

The strategy has sucked for years in trying to fill Ben’s void. I kinda get it though (passing on Dart) because handing Mike another QB to wreck likely wasn’t the answer either.

That is an Art issue, sticking with Mike too long.
It’s time to move forward and that move forward will not come without a capable QB and a HC that can develop said QB.

Very true, and moving forward is not trotting out a soon to be 43 year old QB. McCarthy while very offensive minded, he didn't have to evaluate or draft Rodgers or Dak, they were already there when he was hired, curious to see how he handles the QB position.

Can you take a risk on a qb there at that spot if he isn't the guy? People have said that the Pickett pick set the organization back years. I'm not quite sure what that means...I would argue if he was the 1st overall, yeah, but in the 20s? Lots of guys fail. I just wonder if that was the thinking. But I'm with you, I would have taken the chance. Especially knowing what we know now...they might actually have someone who knows offensive football.

The only thing with Rodgers for me is can the young guys learn anything? It just seems like you had that line...Favre, Rodgers, Love...they do similar things. I'd love that to influence some young Steeler QBs.

To me the answer is absolutely.

Emphatically you must take those risks until you hit. I felt there were 3 starters in last draft. I wouldn’t have taken Slough in the 20s, but definitely wanted Dart (felt he was QB1 in the draft personally). If the FO likes a guy they must pull the trigger at such a vital position. If it takes a FEW swings so be it…I know this, not swinging will not get that hit we need.

Why would the Steelers show their hand before the draft? Not only are they keeping you restless and agitated, but they're keeping the other 31 teams guessing on whether or not they're drafting a QB and if so, what round? It changes the draft strategy of those teams.

In other words, the Steelers are playing chess and you have the strategic aptitude to play marbles, maybe. :)
Bro, I highly doubt any of the other 31 teams view the Steelers as “playing chess”. Playing pocket pull? Maybe. It’s been a decade since anyone has seen this team as a threat. We can thank our loser a*s ownership for that.

Hey, I have an idea. Let’s put people in positions that they aren’t qualified to fill. Derrr - Fart Rooney
