WTF are we doing?

As it stands now, it looks like our plan was to replace dumb and incompetent (Tomlin) with old, fat and boring (McCrappy). And apparently we didn’t get enough mediocrity at the QB position last year because our jackass owner and poser GM thought it would be a good idea to run that back. Wouldn’t be surprised to learn that they’re trying to sign Grandpa Rodgers to a 3 year, fully guaranteed deal.

Time out. We don’t know how the 2026 draft class is going to be. It’s not a forgone conclusion the 2026 draft class is bad. You won’t know for sure until 4 years from now.

Yup
Last year it was wait til 2026…that’s gonna be the QB class. Lmfao

Now there’s people piping that same BS about 2027…then it will arrive and it will be wait for 2028, now that’s the class for QBs.

Last year, in a draft that was allegedly QB starved (by the wait for next year crowd) there were prospects drafted that certainly look like they could be the real deal…and there are EVERY year. Ya just gotta find a talent that fits the scheme and develop them. Very few HOF bound finished products are coming out…you have to take some chances and make your breaks some times.

The wait for next year crowd cracks me up…our dumb ***** will be left holding our dick waiting for next year for a decade if we don’t get over the fear of pulling the trigger.

I remember Ben, he had to deliver the ball very quickly due to the porous OL and the defense knowing the play and stacking the box with huge overload. I don’t remember the number but it was the fastest delivery in the NFL, and done out of survival.

That statement of accuracy about Rodgers may be true to a degree, but a little pressure and he ditched it rather than be hit. I’m not going to look up his completion percentage, but pretty sure it wasn’t “ridiculously high” so that is a little over statement.

We all know Rodgers is coming back, but I think we should still take a risk on a “Allar” type risk. We need to move forward and the risk vs the geriatric is well worth a shot.

I was saying his accuracy was ridiculous. Not his completion percentage. Everyone remembers those perfect over the shoulder throws to DK, Austin, etc. Having said that if you dont give him good to great protection he is a liability. So, if they go with Howard I don't have a problem with it. I'm not going to complain if GOAT comes back either..if they are going to improve the O-line.

I was convinced they were going to go after Willis.

Brady and Purdy needed the starter to get injured.
Yep and Brady was in year 2, having played in the preseason as a rookie, and he was #3 on the depth chart that offseason, their #2 guy got hurt in NFL Europe I think.

Steelers will probably be drafting mid-round at best in 2027, so unless the QB class is stacked, we are still likely on the outside looking in.

Best bet- add QB's through the draft each year until you land the one you want. It's not a popular option, but Simpson @ #21 might be the best QB option we get available for a few seasons. Not often the 2nd best QB might be in our reach. Does in guarantee he succeeds? No. But he's viewed as the 2nd best QB for a reason.

Will Howard doesn't deserve the faith some have in him. Will he fail? Don't know. Is the answer? Not likely. Add decent QB options until we don't need to.

We have 12 picks. 5 in the first 3 rounds. Spending a late 1st on a potential guy at QB - this might be the time to do it.

Last year the best (or second best QB) was there for the taking in the 20s and Slough even later. So even in that weak class at least 3 good prospects.

If you have a coach that can work with/develop a QB drafting late 1st is not nearly the issue as it is when your coach requires a finished product.

Poor coaching combined with a top 10 prospect will fail more frequently than good coaching with a 11-50 prospect. Hopefully they solved the coaching side of the equation so the Steelers can finally move forward.

The most important position on the field by a country mile needs to start being treated as such at some point.

Make no mistake, Rodgers will be day one starter.

I too was after Willis and disappointed when I found him going to Miami.

Agree.

And #21 could land Simpson. Who could learn behind Rodgers & take over the following season or so. A good progression plan makes someone like Rodgers more valuable.

I don't think anyone can expect Simpson to start this season. But with a little polish & learning the system- he's a high quality talent.

Well said Fiji, appreciate you.

It”s that finally start to m ove forward that I was so looking forward to, with the change of coaching staff.

Huge disappointment staying with the geriatric story line.

The risk of Howard, or even the greater risk of Allar would still be moving forward instead of the backwards motion currently being exhibited.

I will say the offensive system had something to do with this. I hope anyways.
That is an understandable take, however:

In 2024, same coordinator, same offense, and as hard as Russell Wilson was to watch, he finished in the top ten in CAY per completion at 6.4. Meantime, Rodgers was #28 at 4.8 with the Jets. Even Justin Fields came in at 5.5 for the Steelers that year.

So it doesn't necessarily have to be smallball in Arthur Smith's offense. It depends on the QB's tendencies. And at this point in his career, AR's tendency is to get rid of the ball as soon as he possibly can to avoid another hit on his rapidly aging body.

Taking old ben over Rodgers is a wild take. Ben had about the same mobility and his arm was not what it used to be. Ben was also going down alot easier than he did in his prime. Ben has to be the best QB in history at throwing with defenders on him or after shaking defenders off. I think prime Rodgers vs prime Ben is a good discussion, but I think old Ben was worse than old Rodgers.
As for QBs I think Simpson is a reach in round 1. It's there really that much difference between Simpson and Howard? Next year there could good be 3 legit first rounders if Manning pans out. He had a good second half and I expect him to look much better this year. If we fill most holes this year we could sell out next year and try to move up for one of them

OUTSTANDING takes, sir.
Spot on all around.
I've had said for months to anyone who will listen ( which is nobody, per usual ) this QB class = Kenny FN Pickett draft class.
NOBODY worth a first.
Watch Mendoza tape then watch Will Howard tape from their final college years.
Then look at their IDENTICAL stats up and down the board.
Glad to see the Raiders keeping the overdraft reach alive from their Jamarcus Russell days to now.
Mendoza doesn't have the arm strength. He's noodle armed. Yeah he's a winner, but so were Tebow and Manziel.
And yes, I do believe next year's draft class is better than this year's.
Punt on QB in the draft this year, whether ARod comes back or not.
NO QB this year is worth a 1st, and we already have our project in Howard.

Having Simpson (as much as he’s not my guy) and Howard learning behind Rodgers is at least a coherent plan to address the issue and likely the path a fearful of abject failure guy like Art will go.

I’d be ok with that or even Cousins in a role like that if Rodgers hangs em up (which imho he 100% should). When he threw that ball on the ground to brace himself for turf contact in a playoff game it was OBVIOUS he is cooked. Scared and can’t move is hard to watch, and all we get in return is an on field coach with a deteriorating mid skillset.

I’d take a swing at 2 mid rounders, throw Howard and those 2 out there and may the best man win.
If we suck, then next year we have a premium pick to swing again. This is a high risk high reward strategy that the nutless wonder Art will never try.
