Does Bud Dupree need to make an impact as a rookie?

The degree is in Community Leadership. No idea what that entails. If the most obvious example of this is any indication, I suggest it means very little with regard to intellect

I see what you did there.

If you have HBO dial up " Real Sports " on demand as they had a segment a few months ago on this very topic. There are " football degrees ". No all universities do this, but many do to keep their athletes on the field.

Let's hope Dupree is a Kinesthetic Learner type.

So then you obviously feel that the Steeler front office blew this pick then because Bud with a low Wonderlic score has no chance to suceed at this level? That Bud is just too stupid to pick up the defense and will be slow to diagnose. Is that what you're saying? How do you explain players that had low scores that went on the be excellent NFL players? Frank Gore had a 6, Terry Bradshaw who called his own plays scored a 16, A J Green a 10, Patrick Peterson a 9, Kelvin Benjamin a 7, Dan Marino a 15. Geez Coach I'd take every one of those guys on this team.

I am much more worried about Jones stepping up than I am with Dupree, this year.

Steelers OLB Bud Dupree getting first-team reps, wants to go against best
http://espn.go.com/blog/pittsburgh-...ting-first-team-reps-wants-to-go-against-best

PITTSBURGH -- First-round pick Bud Dupree said he’s happy he is getting some first-team reps because he likes "going up against the best."

The Pittsburgh Steelers have veterans James Harrison and Arthur Moats along with third-year pro Jarvis Jones at outside linebacker, but Dupree confirmed they are working him in with first- and second-team reps.

"Everything is starting to click," Dupree said. "(My goal is) to show them I know the plays and show them they can trust me."

The Steelers selected Dupree No. 22 overall in this year’s draft. Dupree ran a 4.56-second 40-yard dash, which is big time for a 6-foot-4, 269-pounder. He also has a 42-inch vertical.

Dupree’s college stats aren’t gaudy -- he finished with 7.5 sacks for Kentucky in 2014 -- but Dupree has context for that. He dropped into coverage more than he rushed the passer at Kentucky, he said. That experience is helping him adapt to the Steelers' system that emphasizes both.

Dupree said he’s learned the playbook and is adjusting to the speed of the NFL game, which takes time. Veterans are helping him.

"I feel I had a good turnaround on the (playbook)," Dupree said. "I’ve always picked up on things fast."

One player that won’t relinquish his job without a battle is Harrison, who, at 37, says he’s capable of playing more than 25 snaps a game from now until he’s 50.

But Harrison might have a situational role if the Steelers feel they need a return on investment from first-round picks Dupree and Jones, who has three sacks in two years after battling a serious wrist injury last season.

"No one wants to sit and be a backup player," Harrison said. "If that’s your mentality, you’re not in the right sport ... You have roles that you play. If that’s your role, you do it the best you can."

You and me both Tibs. Jones has to come through this year. If he gets hurt again or just flat out stinks then we know what position we draft first or second next year. Let's all hope this works out. I haven't seen any pictures of Jones. Wonder if he bulked up any?

He did not look any different to me than when he first came into town from the picture at Dave and Busters with him in one of the video game cars. They are on the steelers site if you want to check and see what you think.

Bud looks like he can play which is more than I think when I see Jarvis,

Wing, you're right. He looks the same to me as well. There is no way this guy is 245 lbs. I just don't see it. He just does not look big enough and strong enough. Surely Tomlin and Butler cannot be happy with this. I really expected to see him bulked up this spring. We shall see!

His hair probably is good for 20 lbs. I don't know Tibs, he just looks the same to me. I hope the hell he did work out like a mad man and he is stronger. Maybe just has trouble keeping weight on like Farrior. Hay, if he is stronger that's really all I ask.

Nah, he definitely looks stronger, to me at least. ;)

Yes, he looks a little stronger. When he came into the league, some DB's had bigger arms than Jarvis Jones.

The trouble with Jones you can put on some weight, but it will cost a some speed and quickness, which in his case were already suspect. He's just not a big boned body type. In fact he had a narrow spine condition.

So everyone complains that Jarvis is way too small for the position.

Jarvis proceeds to become noticeably stronger- but now THAT may be a problem?

Here's the thing. A 12 as Durpee scored is very low. A 10 means you can't read or have a learning disability. A 12? Might have guess a few questions right. I have read many times our defense is complicated. When you tie this into reports that say Durpee is late diagnosing a play, or gets by on pure god given gifts rather than technique, it could mean something.

A college degree for a football player could simply means he showed up and put in some effort. Do not confuse this with joe average student who doesn't help the school make money.

Let me ask you this. Have you met the man? Have you talked to him? Because those who have haven't mentioned any glaring deficiencies in his intellect. Yet there you sit. Fingers hovering over your keyboard. Disparaging someone you have neither met, nor developed any basis for your assertions other than a test score. You do realize that there is no such thing as an accurate IQ test. Most that are called intelligence tests don't measure your ability to learn, they measure whether you have been exposed to (i.e. learned) the factors that are included in the test.

Btw, as you are well aware, I posted a link to the requirements for the degree that "Durpee" received at UK. It's not a "show up and get your paper or 'basket weaving'" degree. Yet, after having previously being provided with this information, you continue to assert that it is or could be. Why is that? Is it something personal?

Let me provide you with that link again. "Durpee's" degree was NOT one of those football degrees. Let's see if you actually take the time to educate yourself on this or just continue to spout the same drivel.

Some people .. right? If these guys can't get bigger and stronger and maintain speed and agility, they are overpaying the SPEED AND AGILITY coaches that they work with during the off season. Btw, I understand the desire for speed from an OLB, however, if you look at guys like Harrison, Thuggs, Dumvervil, Wake, Watt, etc. it's not their speed that is the most dominant part of their package; it's their explosiveness. And that ability can be increased through proper training.

Im not . Not with Harrison Behind him.

I know what James can do. CAN I said. But the other side with moats and Dupree is an unknown.

Moats did ok last year and the Steelers also thought he was dependable enough to resign him.

I am more worried about the inexperienced secondary in comparison. How quick the corners develop and of course the health of the overall team will dictate the length of this season.

I dunno, looks like he's been working out like mad man, if you ask me. ;)

In those images he does, I do not know when they were taken and what was done to them. In the image I was talking about it was at Dave and Busters yesterday while they were playing video games. The image is posted on the steelers website.

That does not look like he was able to gain any strength in the off season to me. Now I will say with his wrist injured it likely hurt everything he did since the injury and caused lots of atrophy regarding upper body strength. I would not even consider it to be unreasonable for him to be way behind this year because of it as from what we have seen and heard he was not able to do much.

The real interesting thing on the photos from Tibs are the different tattoos on the arms,
Then I found this one on 05/28/15

I think you may be onto something.... ;)

Something does seem strange about those pic's. He must have done some pushups when posing for my pictures...

Sorry bro, just having a little fun... ;) But for the record, I have read that Jarvis has been working hard this off-season, for whatever it's worth. Joey Porter, Ike Taylor among others think he can be a damn good LB, so I'm holding out hope for him. He's simply on the list of players that really need to step up this year, including Cortez, Shamarko, Dri Archer et al. It would be fantastic if he could stay healthy and play consistently through a whole season like he started off last year.
