Steelers have traded for Jalen Ramsey.

It absolutely was the scheme, maybe there was some behind the scenes stuff with Minkah we don't know about. He came here when we traded for him and didn't really know the defense so they played him close to the box to allow to be a playmaker and he had an amazing season, watching games Minkah was always lined up 15 yards downfield the past few seasons, why would he want to do that when he's proven to be a great playmaker.

Minkah has a history of being malcontent over scheme, as he basically forced the trade from the Dolphins in 2019 over how he was being used.

Might be a similar situation here, but as I said, if that's the case and malcontents like Pickens and potentially Fitzpatrick need to go, why wait until late spring/early summer to do it?

It makes no sense unless they truly went into the offseason not sure what they were going to with these guys and just are winging it as time passes.

****, they traded Diontae Johnson in early March last off season and he didn't have the value that Pickens or Fitzpatrick do.

Love this. Seems like multiple guys didnt like Minkah. Seemed like Cam hated him.

I’m on board as soon as Tomlick moves on. Watching, but no expectations as long as he’s here.

Yeah like I said could be some behind the scenes stuff, I believe in Miami he was complaining about not being up to play close to the box so he could make plays, they were having him play more centerfield crap too, so maybe you're right, we're doing the same thing to him and he was getting chirpy about it.

Ray hints at this...

This D has a lot of talent. If the rookies can contribute and the young guys improve, this D should be very good if Tomlin can figure out a scheme that works with the players we have.

Seems like Ramsey has been around forever, almost as long as the Steelers stale schemes on defense. Feels like they're just throwing stuff against the wall now knowing that they won't change the gutless defensive schemes much as long as Tomlin is here.

I don't see why they would... how many CB's are they gonna have on the roster? They signed Slay and Echols, they resigned Pierre, and are returning Bishop, Porter, and Trice. Now you add in Ramsey, and you can't forget about the longshot Kent they drafted late for DB/Return role.

Now we have a huge hole at Safety, with only Thornhill (missed 12 games the last 2 years), Killabrew, Elliot, and Decastro...

Hilton won’t be back.

Pretty sure Beanie or someone already on the roster.

Salute the nation

Everyone keeps throwing Minkah's name out when the players were talking about someone not being on the same page, but Minkah was one of the players calling that person out. And thru a little bit of research, you would know that it wasn't Minkah, it was Cam Sutton. When he took over for Bishop after his suspension was up, that is when all the miscommunications started. And all the plays that stood out as the biggest blunders, Sutton's man was the one WIDE open.
Ok, let’s take Fitzpatrick out of the miscommunication problem. The guy had very little production, especially for a player that was given the largest salary at that position at the time of his signed contract. How many pass breakups did he have, I believe it was three last year. Some have mentioned he was playing center field, well if your that far back and with a full view of the field, that amount of experience and knowledge of offensive opponents tendencies, he would have an advantage of jumping routes etc.. His production and coverage ratings were nowhere near the top at his position. Regardless of where or how he was being used, I don’t think things were going to change so I don’t understand the angst in moving on.

So we are now the place were past their prime players come try for one more year???

Player for Player, I'd take Minkah over Ramsey any day, but Tomlin didn't allow Minkah do what he did best, making a playmaker like Minkah play centerfield was beyond idiotic, so based on the way they made Minkah play, this may be a slight upgrade, but Patrick Peterson didn't work out here, this will probably be similar.
Getting Smith as well makes this a solid trade.

Has a history? Really? Flores moved him from Safety to Nickel, yeah as the number 11 pick in the draft, and a Free Safety...I'd be pretty upset about being moved to a nickel role as well. But that was in 2019. He hasn't bounced around the league bitching and moaning about schemes. In fact, he's been nothing but a pro since he came to Pittsburgh. Come on, you're better than that

One would think that if he was as talented as he's assumed to be, he would have at least lucked into a few more INTs and pass break ups than he has in recent years, regardless of where he's playing on the field.

History is history, no matter how short or brief.

Maybe he was justified in wanting out of Miami, but he ultimately did force a trade, which set a precedent that could be applied here.

How can we be so sure he hasn't been complaining to teammates and coaches about his role in the Steelers defense?

Players don't always throw their dirty laundry out in the media.

Well, he did it in Miami right? If he has "a history of", and this is just par for the course...

Banking on this happening. I am guessing Ramsey moves to FS.
This is another reason I like the trade, Ramsey has played inside and outside at a high level, he’s extremely versatile, physical and good size for a db. It would not surprise me if he eventually moved to safety, wherever they decide to use him, our pass defense has really improved.

2 #1 Shut-down corners ?

Porter Jr & Ramsey are immediately the best pair of CB's in the League...

Just heard them on the Fan, could JPJ move to Safety?

This is a good trade because Minkah was a waste of money. He’s still a great player but if Tomlin wants him playing back like a center fielder on the warning track, then it’s a waste of money. You can have a much cheaper player do the same.

I love the undrafted safety Castro. They have him as a 3rd S behind Elliott and Thronhill. You still have Killebrew in the mix. That’s a good safety room.

With Porter and Ramsey, you now have a big outside CBs who can play press man. Slay can play slot or you can have Ramsey play slot if you want more of a big nickel look against a team with a good TE. You still have Trice and Beanie in the mix to continue to learn.

Johnuu Smith may have just solved the WR2 issue. You now have big targets Metcalf, Smith and Freiermuth. The #2 wr should have easier coverages to beat.

You have a good 3 TE set now for short yardage.

They should install a Tush Push with a TE or RB taking the snap.
