Report: Aaron Rodgers Is At Steelers Facility On Friday

The goal is 9 wins, I think Rudy can do that.

Well, technically…………… 8 wins and a tie……….. but I hear what you are sayiN

I don't think Aiyuk used us.

Sounds like we had a contract in principle.

My understanding is that we didn't want to pay the draft capital that SF wanted.

Kahn puts a price on a guy. And doesn't ever say he's out of a deal. Waits to see if the bottom drops out on the price.

Worked for Fields. Didn't work for Aiyuk.

We'll see for Rodgers...but it looks like his options are play cheap with us or retire. And there's no need for us to pony up more cash when there isn't a buyer. And there's no need yet for him to sign. So they'll play chicken for a bit longer.

ADD in the fact that A-Aron himself said he would play for $10mil. So it isn’t even a $$$pay-up$$$ scenario.

I'll play for half of that.

I suited up with Ben's jersey and everything. Was sort of his "stunt double". He'd go into the blue tent and I came out. I was his dopple-ganger.
Worked for years. I worked for tips, you wouldn't believe some of stuff guys on the sidelines told me...........................

No we need him to be thrust into being a starter ASAP so we know for sure if we need to go hard after a top QB next year. Either we completely tank OR Howard emerges as the franchise QB. Those are the two best scenarios.
I would plan on taking another QB next year, no matter what. Unless he pulls a ben and makes a start due to injury and goes undefeated.

Is it a bad thing that if Ben came out of retirement this year, he would be the best QB on the roster.?

He hasn't played football in three years, and his mobility and arm were nowhere near what they once were when he last played.

One reason Brady and Rodgers were/have been able to play into their 40s is that they avoided the type of reconstructive surgery to their throwing arms that Ben had.

As a great as Ben was, I sincerely doubt he would be a better QB than Rudy at this point.

Howard might need a year or two to improve on some things before he's ready to play, though the Steelers definitely shouldn't wait on a 6th round pick if a better prospect or veteran option becomes available next year.
No you don’t wait, no matter how he looks this year. I think they still draft another QB next year also. If the right one is able to be had you go get him regardless of Howard being on the roster. That still only gives you 3-4 QB’s going into camp. Worst case, both turn out to be franchise QB’s and you trade one for picks or needs.
I think one of the biggest mistakes teams often make with young QBs is assuming they all need to play right away, especially the rookie QBs with flaws in their games. On occasion, having some time to learn and improve from the NFL practice field and sidelines can do a lot of good.
Going from College to Pro is a huge jump for the best players. Getting time to come up to speed is always beneficial
Countless QBs have probably been ruined by being rushed onto the field.
I would guess that the vast majority of them it wouldn’t have mattered anyway
Conversely, who knows if Patrick Mahomes would have become the player he has if he didn't sit and learn for a year? Same with Tom Brady.
They both could have 1 more Super Bowl ring each, who knows.

Rodgers is doing what is best for him and I can respect that. Everyone expects him to sign with the Steelers, because they think that is his best option, it may not be. I know that if I were a player and looking at Tomlin’s history, I wouldn’t play for him unless it were my LAST option of getting a paycheck. In Rodgers situation, he doesn’t need the money so he can wait. Every year a starter or two goes down before opening day, any of those could be more enticing than the Steelers.

If Rodgers is coming he should sign before OTAs. It would not be fair to anyone for him to show up before opening day. This would set the team back several weeks and if we expect to compete we do not have that luxury. It would also be a slap in the face to all the other guys who grinded through camp to be ready. It would also just be a bad look for the "leader" to blow off all the hard work. To me that just shows lack of commitment and he would be better off retiring or going to a different team that has an injury or something. If the team is dumb enough to sign an old QB who didnt bother learning the system and what not then that is on them and not Rodgers. I imagine that would rub guys the wrong way and cause some locker room issues.

I feel too many QBs entering the league are not ready to play right away, and risk having their confidence and potential destroyed as a result .

You're right that it would not have mattered for a lot of them, but there also probably were many who would have had far better careers had they been given a year or two to get acclimated to the league before getting thrown to the wolves.

One can argue exactly how much Brady and Mahomes were helped by practicing, sitting and watching for a year, but they definitely were not hurt by it.

Granted, they also had the added benefit of having successful veteran QBs ahead of them to learn from, which is something many rookie QBs don't have.

Even if those veterans were not the ideal mentoring types, the younger guys could learn a lot by observing how those veterans prepared and handled themselves at the QB position.

I would say **** Rodgers. Hate the guy. do not want him. until he signs. and then go Rodgers!

Too many teams put the cart before the horse and draft the hopeful savior QB before they have a team around them. The Browns are infamous for this. Hopefully we are taking the smart approach this year. Getting the young line another year together to gel before drafting a franchise hopeful. I could honestly see scenario where Howard becomes the guy for us. I wouldn't bet big money on it but he has some tools.

Its becoming pretty clear the Steelers are keeping the lights on for Rogers but I agree with an earlier poster. Once install beginning if he is not signed. It's over. You have to build the offense around Rogers. He is only playing his offense. Mason and Will can be built around Smith's offense. Rogers cannot.

Rodgers may have said he'd play for 10 million but how much did/do the Steelers still have on the table? I doubt they will lower it and my guess is it is closer to $30 million. Tomlin's mancrush gets another nice pay day.

Teams just don't have the patience that they once had with young QBs, particularly the high picks.

I remember in the 1990s the Oilers/Titans didn't play Steve McNair at all until his third season. A bit later on, Mike Vick played sparingly during his rookie season, and Carson Palmer did not play at all during his.

You'll never see that in today's NFL. These kids have unreasonable "sink or swim" expectations placed on them way too soon, though some can handle it.

The less sought after college QBs have the advantage of lower expectations in giving them time to develop but there's a downside to it as many are never given a real opportunity to show what they can do.

If Trent Green doesn't get hurt for the Rams, there's a good chance no one knows who Kurt Warner is.

I don't begrudge him doing what he thinks is right.

Just like I didn't begrudge Bell sitting out a year even though I thought it was a bad decision.

I do think that Rodgers choices are (1) play with us and start, (2) retire, (3) be a backup somewhere...likely for less than what we're offering him.

Waiting for a training camp injury to a starter is another. Or for a guy like JJ McCarthy to look so bad they give ARod a call.

Exactly, you don’t bring in the OLD dog to teach him all new tricks………………

You bring him in and get to know each other and enhance him into a familiar role………………….

Add in that the talent pool is lowering continuously. The college portal allows players to jump to the highest bidder, not giving them any long term Developement other than win now baby. No able to work on the extreme details of fine tuning, as in a long term relationship.

If it were for one game, maybe?
Think he’d break down pretty quick over the grind of a season.

Ben didn’t get the use of HGH steroids such as t*mmyb*y enjoyed, without being tested.

The problem with Rodgers wanting to miss everything until the preseason just doesn't cut it for me. He is learning a new system and has to get in sync with new players. Being there for OTA's is important. Practice is important even at his age. He also needs to build relationships with his teammates and build trust with his teammates. This isn't the Pittsburgh Rodgers, it's the Pittsburgh Steelers and he is just one piece of the team. He's not good enough anymore to not practice.
I assure you he thinks he IS good enough not to have to practice at his age. It's not like the Steelers offense is that complicated.
