Anyone who thiinks these FO EXPERTS are so smart.......

Ha ha, saving some face as per usual. Still not too shabby for Average Timmons. You might want to update that to "Well Above Average Timmons" for accuracy purposes. Last I checked, they didn't put "average" players on the 1st OR 2nd All Pro Teams. Hence the title "ALL PRO"

He had what 4 votes ? First team had like 30....

Timmons loves to disappear for stretches of games, take bad angles, get pushed off like jarvis, and simply out of position watching the ball carrier blow through where he should be... At this stage in his career he should have the mental part down and he does not. Canton bound he is not.

That is a whole bunch of sour grapes TAS. The guy you've spent six years tearing apart at every opportunity is now viewed league wide as one of the games BEST ILBs. Sorry, game over.

You have got to be kidding me. Timmons is not that good. His best trait right now is he is seldom injured. His second best trait is he is decent and can make an occasional real good play. As to top 5 it would be top 5 out of 16 because the nfc has 16 of the other slots.

And somehow the NFC matters how? The quote was top 5 ILB in the GAME, not the AFC. Timmons gets a lot of undeserved criticism, it's actually hilarious when you consider how bad this DL has been for years, and who he has been forced to play next to since Farrior left. Timmons shows up, does his job, and people ***** and ***** and *****. Green Bay just released AJ Hawk, drafted 6th over all, never lived up to the hype of his draft status, but was solid for them. Was a fan favorite, but here, Timmons who is twice the player Hawk was and drafted SEVERAL spots later gets ragged on constantly. It baffles me beyond belief.

I mean first team was obvious to the voters. Timmons got ... 4 votes.

So, fifth best line backer in the league. Let that sink in....what the **** does it matter how many votes he got, except to you, of course. I bet you know more about football than the entire steelers FO and those All Pro voters combined. Average...LOL

The All Pro team is not All Pro AFC and All Pro NFC. There is an All Pro First Team and Second Team. First team has two ILB, second team has three ILB.

Hey now lets not confuse someone's opinion using facts (SARCASM)

The presupposition is he is average or less than average, therefore the argumentation must make what is already decided to be true whether it is or not.

Pro Bowl and All Pro are not the same thing, nor is the selection process.

so NOW we judge a guy by All-Pro appearances?
I thought that was just a popularity contest.

I don't know why you bother to engage w/ the haters anymore. Timmons has proved himself - four (4) votes or not. He's a Pro-Bowler.

You mean All-Pro. No idea how many votes he got for the Pro Bowl.

Pro Bowl includes fan votes who can vote as many times as they like. Many of us don't think much of the Pro Bowl status due to this, although Pro Bowl > no Pro Bowl, I suppose. I would like to be able to see how the Pro Bowl votes broke down between the groups that can vote (three?), but I don't think that is available anywhere.

Timmons is an extremely solid player now. That is undeniable, and there is nothing wrong with extremely solid. But great or best at the position is a real stretch. First off his good play was magnified by the crappiness of the rest of the defense. Secondly, a great player makes the big splash plays consistently.
Career 126 748 522 226 28.0 12 7 0 9 200 22 89 1 32 33 77
over 7 years 28 sacks, 12 forced Fumbles and 9 interceptions.
And here is a million dollar question when we are going to speak about awards/ accolades. How does Ben's only accolade be a begrudging Pro Bowl vote with the year he had. Yet Timmons got apparently quite a lot. with literally 2 sacks, no forced fumbles and no interceptions. Someone has to explain that one to me. And don't get me wrong I like LT as a player. 12 million dollars this year though. mmmmm. That is a lot.

No, that's Pro Bowl. All Pro is voted on only by players and has more credibility. Well, the Pro Bowl has zero credibility these days but you get my point.

I don't, really, think Timmons is a top-5 player, but I do like to poke at the "average-at-best" crowd because he is, clearly, above that. He is paid top 1 or 2 and I can't disagree with any criticism of that, nor have I.

the talent on our defense is well below average we ahve 3 /4 good players (heiward tuitt timmons mclendon) than a bunch of below average players or bust

yeap, I think his salary is the big beef here in SN

You do realize that Timmons plays ILB not OLB right? His sack numbers are never going to be high. So lets do this another way, since it's a stats driven argument here.

Patrick Willis, who many like to call the best ILB in the game, and many love to compare contracts with Timmons, is retiring. Lets take a look at the numbers, also keep in mind that Willis started his entire Rookie year, while Timmons did not.

112 950 732 218 20.5 16 5 0 8 131 16 86 2 53 43 114 0

Now lets take a look at Timmons numbers

126 748 522 226 28.0 12 7 0 9 200 22 89 1 32 33 77 0

They aren't that much different, and Timmons still gets dragged through the mud on this site. Willis has also had a pro bowl ILB playing next to him most of his career, a very solid DL in front of him as well.

True is somewhere in the middle with Timmons. Dependability is his greatest asset. Great guy really good player that shows up and brings it every game. But with his experience he should be a turnover creating machine. Watch game tape like the Browns games they ran by him they passed by him... It was bad. Watching him trying to stop te Cameron just painful. With his size, speed, and experience he should be awesome against the pass... He's not.

I might actually believe that if it hadn't start 3.7 seconds after he was drafted. His salary is just the latest excuse to rip on him once he established that he was good and people began to realize they sounded silly. Got to save face for all the initial bitching at all costs.

It has been way more than that for a long time.

I always liked him but still think he's a bit overpayed

That might be true. But to read some of this stuff you'd think he was a guy with so many flaws and holes in his game that if Pittsburgh released today, nobody would try to to get him on their team. It's a joke.

My gawd you're dumb as a stump. His contract is the problem. If he were paid in the 3-4 mil range I don't think many people would expect more of a return but as it is we pay top dollar so it's not unreasonable to expect better play.
