Steelers select Dri Archer in Round 3

Because even his good-not-amazing agility/quickness isn't enough in my book.

1- you must know that quickness (ie, ARE) vs straight line speed (ie DHB) are different things
2- you must also know most often a player has one or the other
3- one would think, that since you are aware of 1 and 2, you might see some value in getting a guy who has both.

Calling something "stupid" doesn't make it so, just like typing "he will never be x, y, or z" doesn't make it so.

You know what I might call, stupid, were I to pick something and say it were stupid? Determining the value of a draft pick before the guy ever takes a ******* snap in the nfl.

That, to me, seems pretty ******* stupid. But hey, maybe I just don't see the future so well, here is what I'm going to ask you to do, list the 10 guys who were available that we should have taken that we will wish we had gotten after Archer busts.

You don't even have to put them in order, just list them, 1-10, and we'll see if your better, or worse than the 25% success rate the NFL currently has. I would have no ******* idea, but then again, I'm not claiming there will be 10 guys we will wish we had.

Bigger than they are? So weighing 173 isn't a big deal, although no RBs have succeeded with such a tiny frame? Fumbling at an amazing rate isn't a biggie for a RB/WR/KR? Lacking polish at WR isn't a concern for a potential slot WR?

Thats not mentioning his Ball Carrier Vision. Not everyone sees the field the same. Some players are able to see holes, see blocks developing.... Archer coaches says he has this in adbundance( which you can see watching him run)to go along with the speed and quikness/agility.

You can say that about every player every year that you draft, with very few exceptions.

True, but that doesn't make the pick less valuable. It doesn't mean that you should take an attitude of "Well, we can afford to piss this one away." You should still try.

I don't have a crystal ball. What you're asking for is my 10 favorite players at that pick, correct? I'll provide it as best as I remember, but I'm not sure what that's going to prove. That I don't scout players better than the Steelers do? I don't think I've ever made that claim. My point here is just that, even if Archer reverses EVERY trend and becomes a fine KR/gadget back, I think (as does common sense) that we should have taken a more valuable prospect there. Not sure what the specific player has to do with anything. I think Archer will be something of a washout. If we had taken Bruce Ellington there and he had washed out, I would have considered it a better decision.

I would hope the FO realizes (now) they made a mistake in letting Lewis go. I'm not sure how to answer your Lewis vs. Archer question...which Lewis are we getting (2010? 2014?)? I was one who wrote Lewis off as a completely wasted pick after 2 seasons.

It's hard to keep people straight in this thread; I would not have taken Archer at #97 (wanted Ellington or Bryant) but the pronouncements (with absolutely certainty) that Archer will be a complete bust drive me nuts.

I've never made the claim that he is a certain bust. Everyone of my arguments has been about value. My issue is that the VERY BEST he can be is so low it isn't worth the risk. I don't value trick players that have no position highly. He could very well be a very good KR if other teams don't put the ball in the EZ every time. But even if he becomes a very good KR I would never have spent a 3rd round pick on him. It's a value thing for me.
