Ok so this thread started with what if Mariotta falls to #22, nobody is talking about replacing Ben, What I am talking about and have been talking about is if MM is there at 22 I would take him. Do we have other needs hell yeah we sure the hell do but could we fill them needs also with the other picks and FA....heck yeah. Just for the record if we haven't screwed the other drafts up then this draft would be so "extremely important"!
You can't win in the NFL with a bad QB, are you good with going with Bruce or Landry for a good chunk of the season and maybe the playoffs? I am not, I would want a guy who could give us a chance to win and IMO MM has that ability. Now if he never see's the field fine I am sure he has value in the trade market if you would want to go that route.
With today being the Daytona 500 I will use that as an example, you bring several cars to the track with hopes you never need to use them but if you do the back up car is just as good as the primary one. I am not saying MM is anything like Ben **** they are very big shoes to fill but I like my chances better with MM then with these other two guys. QB is by far the hardest position to fill and most important so if a guy like MM falls I...ME am all about pulling the trigger and taking a chance at #22 in the draft for this guy........and yet again this is all for nothing not a snowballs chance in hell this guys falls that far.

The point is, unless you are prepared to bench #7 in favor of Mariota at some point, it is a completely wasted 1st Round pick when your team has tons of holes that desperately need filling. As I said, it would be something Al Davis would come up with. Fall in love with a guy and draft him even though it makes no sense whatsoever for your team.
That Aaron Rodgers was such a wasted pick, sat on the bench learning the offense and how to be a professional NFL QB for three years before they gave that bum a shot. I bet GB would love to redo that draft...

There is absolutely no way that guy drops to our pick. No way.
Now way do I want to bench Ben but no way do I pass on MM at 22. You really think one pick will fix this team then fine live in you Al Davis fantasy world cause you are missing the freakin point.

I am not in love with MM I am in love with BPA at at 22 there would not be a better player there. You an Vader can think what you want I am all about BPA and we all have our opinions on this and that is fine. It is all for nothing cause he won't be there anyways...probably cause Al Davis will pick him from above......lmao!
Yes he is. Winston ran a 4.97 and 4.99. Winston's hands were on the small side too. I now think MM has passed Winston on draft boards. This QB class if awful. We need these two to go before we pick in round one.
Unequivocally untrue statement right here lol. Winston has essentially locked himself into the #1 spot.
Maybe if jameis fell to 1.22, you may have an argument. Very similar to Ben and already a smart prostyle QB. But it would be a waste for a number 1 to sit for 3 years. It would be an even more idiotic waste to use that pick on a project QB who may not even be ready in 3 years.
I agree for the most part. Winston is the #1 pick for TB IMHO. However, I don't like Winston as a QB. He is averaging 1 int. per game. And that is against college level talent. ACC college level talent. I don't think he is that bright. He does remind me of Ben in one aspect... he holds the ball way too long. He isn't a quick read so he waits for WRs to come open. I think he struggles to decipher defenses so he waits.

During his workout on Saturday at the combine, Winston looked throwing the ball, but his most impressive quality wasn’t what we got to see during the NFL Network’s coverage of the event. According to Rich Eisen, his NFL Network colleague, Steve Mariucci called Winston “the most astute X’s and O’s guy that he’s ever put on the board” for his draft breakdowns.
“He was not only answering the questions that Steve was throwing at him but anticipating what that question might lead to next and answering that question before Steve even posed it,” Eisen said, via NFL.com.
NFL Media draft analyst Mike Mayock confirmed what Eisen relayed from Mariucci when he said Winston’s work ethic and football intelligence are off the charts.
Apparently you are wrong in this regard. I'd say that scouts mentioning his football IQ as being up there with Peyton Manning is pretty darned good.

Apparently he's actually been preparing like Manning for years. Keeping notebooks full of schematic diagrams of defenses and such.

Then again, maybe Steve Mariucci has the kid all wrong and he really isn't all that bright.

So, from what I'm reading coming out of the Combine, the football professionals disagree with your assessment of Winston's intelligence. But, I guess they could all be making it up. While I would agree that the kid has exhibited an alarming lack of "common sense" and a sense of entitlement, I wouldn't go so far as to say that he's not that bright.
I still think Lovie is going to take Winston. None of these QB are that good IMHO. I've watched all of them throw and run. Not impressive at all.
I would not touch Winston. He's mistake prone on and off field and slow. Yeah he's got a good arm, but I think the guy is lazy and will gain weight as a pro.
I've read all that before. I've seen the interviews as well. I just don't agree. Talking about plays and then doing it on the field is totally different. He holds the ball to long IMHO. Disagreeing with someone doesn't mean I have to stoop to the idea that they are "making it all up". It just means I don't agree. I remember these same people talking about how great other QBs were going to be... doesn't mean they made it up either. They were just wrong. Just like I've been wrong about many players. I don't have to say they are making anything up even when they are wrong.
Favre was 35 years old then and beaten to hell. He played all 16 games 12 years before Rodgers was selected. And that doesn't count his first two years where he played in 17 games total. Favre had been in the league 14 years before Rodgers was drafted. And they wanted him to sit behind Favre for a few more years. So that means by the time Rodgers was ready Favre had played in the league 17 years and was 38 years old. He only played 3 years after that and only had 1 good year with Minnesota. But hell he was 40 years old then. Ben is 2 years younger but has also has played 3 less years than Favre.
My point is that GB knew Favre's time was short. Also people forget that many in GB wanted Rodgers to start in 2005 because the team sucked. They went 4-12 with Favre. He threw 20 TDs with 29 ints. He had one good year after Rodgers was drafted. Some could argue that Rodgers should have played before the 3 years.
You know, not that long ago people were saying Ben didn't have much time left because of the hits he has taken. Now it's he's only 33. The question was asked if he fell, do you take him and put him in a situation LIKE Favre and Rodgers. You don't know if another prospect falls to you, we were lucky as hell that Ben made it to us to begin with, and it took us 20 years of ****** QB play to finally get Ben. I love Ben, I know as long as he's under center we have a shot. I also know that he isn't going to last forever, and Bruce Gradkowski and Landry Jones aren't exactly people you can hope do more than hold the spot for a few plays while Ben is out.
We all know that Mariotta isn't getting past Philly in ANY scenario. But when a prospect is there, you have to consider it. I hope to hell Ben lasts another 6-7 years like some have said (prob the same people that said 2-3 years left before Haley got here). But I'm also not going to look past a serious QB prospect if he were to fall to us because of a NEED. Drafting for need always gets you into trouble. The other thing NOT being discussed here is what OTHER prospects are on the board when we draft? The combine is still going on, players are going to rise and fall for the next few weeks with the combine and pro days. IF Mariotta were to fall, who's to say there was someone on the board that we would take anyway?
I definitely consider taking him if he were to drop.
If Ben were 25 would you take MM? Hell no. So you say "BPA" but you don't really mean that. If you always took BPA regardless of position then the Steelers would have drafted more than 1 QB in the first round over the past 30 years. MM won't fall to the Steelers so it doesn't really matter. However, taking a QB now hurts the team around Ben. Think of it this way. Take all the first round players off this team and how bad would it be. Miller, Pouncey, DeCastro, Heyward, Timmons etc.. Which one would you take off to draft Manzeil, Bridgewater, EJ, Weeden, Tebow, Quinn, or Jason Campbell. Those are the QBs that lasted to 22 over the past few years.
First off Ben isn't 25 and we are not talking about who we want to pick at 22 we are talking if Mariotta falls(which is stupid cause he won't) would I take him. Yes I WOULD take BPA(MM), we are not talking about Manzell, Teddy B., Weeden, Tebow etc we are talking about MM who a lot of people think can go #1 which these players you listed never had that kinda hype. I get it you don't like MM that's fine so the way you look at him isn't the same way me and a few others here look at him.
You can break it down a hundred different ways, but for me it boils down to this and nothing else. If you take a player, knowing that he most likely will be halfway towards his own retirement before you get to find out if he's any good, it's a dumb pick. Especially when your team is an absolute shambles on the other side of the ball.
