Going with McDonald, Vannett and Gentry.

Wow, in 4 years he only caught 23 balls for 239 yards. That's pretty awful.

That's still pretty skimpy. McDonald is injury prone and I don't think they have any idea yet what they have in Gentry.

He was never used properly.

Grimble was a workout warrior, ripped af, looked like an All Pro in shorts each and every offseason. When the pads came on, err, not so much. Mediocre hands, low awareness... just a guy.

Fair winds and following seas, Xavier.

The only thing that comes to mind when i think about Grimble, is the play where he go knocked unconscious and fumbled at the goal line. He should have been cut after that game.

McDonald and Vannett will be a strength for the O once McDonald is healthy (almost never) and Vannett is up to full speed (maybe next year). They must like Gentry to release Grimble at this point. They probably could have stashed Gentry on the PS if needed but they didn't.

Because in the years he was here he flat out was horrible.

I get that. But why cut him off of i.r.? He was done for the season already. Just keep him on i.r. and move on next year.
.

wow, they finally listened to me

You can thank me now

Here's what I don't understand.

He was on the roster for like 3 years, barely contributed anything. He ran as the #2 tight end all during training camp and preseason. But yet it took until we're 1-3 in week 5 for them to realize he's useless? Why? We had to trade a 5th round pick to get a real #2 TE in here when they had all ******* offseason to see they had nothing at TE after Vance, and could have picked up somebody then.

I have a strong feeling that all these aggressive trades and what not are a sign of a regime (Tombert) that has been told they need to win immediately or else.

Vannett only has 50 catches and this is his 4th season. He only has 1 more TD than Grimble.

I've said the exact same thing for 2 weeks now. I'm not sure if it's a "win now" mandate or if it's them trying not to get a losing season to keep Tomlin's streak intact.

Given how active they were in the off-season with the signings and the trade up for Bush, I think it's likely they would have made the trades for Fitzpatrick and Vannett even if Roethlisberger didn't get hurt.

I think it is clearly a "win now" mentality.

Whether that is wise or not with Rudolph at QB is yet to be seen.

Aidos to Grimble. All I remember him for is a fumble. Gentry was a bad draft pick, and would not be on this team if we had any depth.

So far I like what I saw out of Vannett. A big guy, who can catch and block. He might not be fancy, but he can contribute when called upon.

They've done the Bush thing before with Troy. They had the draft picks to do it and they needed an ILB. I don't see that as a knee jerk, we've got to win now, move. When Ben got hurt panic appears to have set in and they are throwing everything they can into this year. Why? Are they really of the mindset that they are going to win the SB this year? No... so that means they are doing it to keep Tomlin's streak alive. Now you might say that these trades were for the next 2 years with Ben. My issue with that is that Vennett is a FA after this season and they didn't re-work his contract when he signed. I'm sure they can re-sign him but there is no way to know that for sure.

All this reeks of a coach and FO that doesn't want a losing season and will do anything they can to stop it.

They did the trades because of injuries and lack of depth not some closed door Frankenstein scheme to keep a streak intact. They had a underlying reason alright it was the depth at two positions that were extremely weak to begin with took hits. One tight end out the other an on and off again injury report. Oh **** time to bring in a TE that we have had interest in as the need is even greater now. Davis down with no depth with starting FS experience, oh **** we better address the position. Wham bam trade. I mean I want a coaching change as much as the next guy. But I not ready to invent **** just to be able to point one more finger toward the HC. I also damn sure don't want any coach to sit on their hands when starters go down and twittle their thumbs. I can imagine the outcry if that occurred.

When Ben went down the season (as far as winning a SB) was over. They've had injuries before and did absolutely nothing. Now BAM 2 trades in a blink of an eye. Tell me when they've ever done that before? Why no trade when the moto was "Next man up". Guess not this year right? So history tells me this year is different because they don't operate that way. What is different this year? Hmmm wonder what it could be?

When exactly have they been hit with injuries as hard as they have been hit this year? When Haden became available they pounced on him. Plus they have been pretty active with free agency of late too. My point is they have been pretty active with Ben under center why wouldn't they be just as active without him? Especially with a position like FS you lose your starter there it could open the flood gates in the passing game. Remember the last time they were aggressive at a position besides ILber trading up it was at FS for Polamalu. QB and FS are the positions teams need to be aggressive with. Especially when they get caught with their pants down. Which is what happened with Davis' injury.
