WTF? The nbc halftime show is teasing it by saying controversial finish in Cincy.

Someone always wanting to start a controversy and we riding into the bye week on a 2 game winning streak

Here is the thing about this “controversial” pick play.... its at best a gray area in the rules... we know this from one zillion years of west coast offenses using this same loophole over and over (by the way, the west coast offense probably originated in cinci, not sf by the ironic way)

The db has a five yard bump and run zone the wr only has a one yard blocking downfield zone before the pass... the contact is initiated by the db, probably as a bump to disrupt a short pass in an all out blitz... the wr doesn’t have yo yeild a pathway once the db bumps him... its a loophole exploited by screens and over the middle quick slants all the time

exactly, the defender initiates the contact, it is not the WR duty to break free

Actually the 5 yard rule only pertains to defense. Offensive players can only initiate contact at 1 yard. It's also a reason why most teams don't put defenders right on the LOS. 2 yards off means the O can't initiate contact.

There is no grey area here. It is cut and dry, contact at 1yd, initiated by the defense. No foul ever.

(Extra point, this only comes into play BEFORE the ball is caught by a player). Once the ball is caught, offensive players can initiate blocks anywhere on the field. This is why screen passes work)
