WTF are we doing?

That is a great analogy. I'm laughing because in your Browns explanation you pretty much summed up my short childhood baseball career. It just felt good to swing, man.

Always feels better to swing than to sit there watching…the anology as I look at again also reminds me of 20 something me at the bars 🤣

With 12 picks, and 5 in the first 2 days, I'd be amazed if we don't come away with a QB.

If/when Rodgers comes back, I disagree with many. I would take Simpson as high as #21, simply because we have 4 more Day 2 picks to fill LT/LG & WR, ILB or CB.

We might not have a year with the draft capital to 'waste' on a shot-in-the-dark QB. Are they the best QB options of all time?

Hard to say. Most of the top guys have some traits to work with. I don't think the Steelers can afford (or will be comfortable) assuming 6th round QB Howard is THE answer. I'd feel much better having Howard battle with Simpson, Beck, Nussmeier or Allar for the 'developmental QB' role.

If none of the QB's work, draft one in 2027. And 2028. 2029. Draft a QB until you get THE QB.

Not drafting one means our future relies on a 6th rounder beating the odds. Not saying it can't happen. Just that it doesn't happen very often.
Think they will be in the 3-4 range.

Draft a qb with every pick. One has to work out.....no? Do it Omar!!!!!! Think of the qb battle this summer. 🤔

I look at the QB options a bit like this-

Best QB's to learn from a guy like Rodgers- Simpson & Nussmeier probably fit that best.

Best QB's to develop regardless of Rodgers- Allar & Beck probably benefit less from Rodgers with the way they play.

Beck probably benefits from the McCarthy system in terms of 'chance to start' in 2026.

There's an argument for each of those guys to be drafted.

The wildcard is Cole Payton. The Steelers having him visit puts him in the picture.

Nuss has Steelers ties and wont cost what Simpson would to take a chance on.

Prefer the 4th round if they dip into the pool but wouldn’t be upset if they took one with one of their 3-third rounders.

But I prefer WR, FS, and G to be addressed before hand..

I have a feeling Simpson will be off the board when we pick in round 1

This may be an unpopular action, but I would take Allar in the 2nd rnd.

If not then and he was still there the 1st pick in the 3rd rnd, definately for sure.

What little bit of time he had before the combine, he was able to improve that foot-work to a degree (coachable)

I highly doubt he makes it to us in the 2nd round, but if he does………. I’d pull that trigger and not look back.

MM can work his magic, which is why they brought him in.

It wouldn’t apprise me if they took in the 1st either, a little reach but for desperate times come desperate actions………

Allar has some tools but my fear is taking a guy like him too early. 1st round would be a KFP type reach imho.

2nd- probably still a bit high but definitely not as risky…won’t leave a mark if ya miss.

3-4 probably where he belongs talent-wise.

If the Steelers reach on him (the 1st) and he fails Beta Rooney will be paralyzed with fear and never draft another 1st round QB…leading to 6 more years of retreads, cast offs and dinosaurs.

It appears that way, but I've been told it's no big deal, blah, blah, blah.
I will concede something about GOAT to you Coryea. Their is a story on the homepage here about Rodgers possibly wanting somewhere in the 30 range to come back. Yeah I'm not giving him 30...he can have the 13 he got last year, maybe 15 to 17 max. I'm not giving him a dime more than that if I'm the F.O.

In a perfect situation, or at least a really good O-line situation yeah he could take us far, but I don't think that's the case here. Save that money to improve the roster.

He's made a shitload of money in his career. If he won't budge off his number let him retire, or screw some other team.

Cleveland! Cleveland! Cleveland!

Are you moving there, or is that your battle cry for the day………….. you need to add “sucks” onto that…….. :)

NOT a chance in Hades i put him in the driver seat for $30mil.

Willis for $24mil would be lights out compared to geriatric Goat.

Give him $2-$4 mil more than last year and call it good. Let him show us he wants tom play.

I’d give him last year’s exact contract as his base salary with performance bonuses for surpassing those exact milestones and performance fines for going lower than those numbers…and 1 WEEK to sign said deal.

**** or get off the pot…
Preferably get off the pot and take that old azz to pasture

Yup. He can't get us to a bowl anyway..he would make it interesting if everything went right but what is the point? On the cheap..sure. He can mentor Howard for another year, McCarthy gets to implement his offense with GOAT showing everyone how it runs. The key being "on the cheap." 30 is a ridiculous number for someone at his age. We take our lumps instead. Growing pains it will be.

Just ride with Howard this season. Show Steeler Nation you mean what you've been saying about him. Give him the keys to the kingdom for at least 2 or 3 seasons to see what he has. If they draft another QB, he can compete with Howard. Rudolph will be a good QB2 or QB3.

Should have 4 QBs as the ps rules allow a protected QB and easy elevation on game day.

1) a vet: Rodgers, Cousins, Rudolph or whoever they want for that role
2) a true backup: if Rodgers comes back 🤮 then Rudy is likely this guy (unless a younger guy steals his lunch for the role)
3) developmental QB: Howard or draft pick whoever wins the gameday roster spot
4) developmental QB: protected on the ps (loser of Howard and draft pick battle)

A minimum of 4 QBs with 2 young guys is necessary imho…especially if a dinosaur (Rodgers/Cousins) is QB1. If Rudy is the vet guy then 2 young guys competing with him is plenty.

Rodgers would be just another delay in actually addressing a huge gaping hole on the roster.

Beta Rooney will likely let Rodgers do whatever he pleases though…so smart proactive moves matter not. The predictable will likely unfold.
You still have to get them to the PS before you can protect them.

Can anyone tell us how many snaps are permitted in a practice? How many go to #1, #2, etc. There aren't that many snaps to go around and get a good read on a prospect.

The nfl is wacky. Its supposed to be entertainment

Having a 4th QB worthy of being stolen would be a nice problem to deal with…unfortunately we continue to deal with a much larger issue of maybe, just maybe, having 1 worthy of being stolen.

I’ll take that “problem” all day

Pretty sure it’s time based per NFLPA (not snaps based). So an efficient squad that can have a more streamlined regimen likely will get more reps/snaps than guys spending an hour “bs stretching” playing glad hand and grab azz

Hopefully McCarthy is better organized than Tomlin was and can get a better work flow from the squad.

IF only Howard had gotten hurt last year. That really ****** up the whole conversation.

I’d call his injury a minor inconvenience.

It’s not like we would have seen meaningful snaps from him in any capacity unless Rodgers (and Rudolph) went down. So they know pretty much exactly what they should at this point…that he was a 6th round flyer after thought by a desperately QB needy team.

They do have the added knowledge that he couldn’t even make it through pre preseason without breaking himself…so there’s that. Beyond that it’s not like they missed learning much. Preseason snaps vs beyond base D vs the future cut bait of other squads wouldn’t have yielded anything to base an accurate assessment off imo.

It’s virtually impossible to make any evaluations from the absolute garbage that is preseason football. If he lit it up people would make way too early opinions/expectations same as they would deem him a bust if he came out resembling combine Will Howard.

Sure they hope he’ll be great, just like they hope every pick will.

Will he be great, maybe, sure hope so!
It’s a helluva long shot for any QB, even more so for a late round flyer though.

There is 1% of what I have seen from him thus far that would impact my strategy in trying to actually build a QB room. If he’s good enough to become QB2 this year or next that would be awesome! Anything more than that and they really hit a good one.

Then why bring him back?....if we had "a really good Oline" he could take us far.....we don't. So F'k even the $13 million. Your G.O.A.T. is finished. Past his glory elite playing days. Just an old qb who misses more deep passes then he hits...afraid to get hit.....at some point it is simply time to move on to the next chapter in your life. That said......if Rooney is stupid enough to bring him back for even the $13 mill....then props to Rodgers. Go get is our next non-losing season!!!!!Fingers rossed. You know....our new standard apparently. The non-losing season where we hopefully squeak into the playoffs where we get our ***** handed to us. Get it done Omar!!!!
