Would you be happy with Gregory at pick #22?

Sorry Chico, I watched the knobslobber youtube from Brett Kollmann. He is obviously in love w Gregory. I'm ok w that, lots of guys like him that I respect. (Brett's not one of them) They might be right too, and I'm ok w that as well.

What I heard in the video is Brett says Gregory could beat most NFL left tackles right now (?) That he NEVER gets beat or pushed back (??) That he is slow off the snap because of scheme i.e. "tackle reads" (???) That he wasn't used properly (????) That his weight doesn't matter (?????)

What I saw was him using a single play against Erick Flowers (where Gregory beats him) as an example of how he can bull-rush a 330# future NFL tackle and beat him. He showed it many times. So many times that it is painfully obvious that Flowers' LG steps back and trips him (getting him way out of shape) allowing Gregory to get by. He also shows highlights of him beating other standouts like USC freshman G, Toa Lobendahn 6-3, 280# and Mich.St. sophomore, Jack Conklin.

If you want to see the warts watch this tape all the way through: http://draftbreakdown.com/video/randy-gregory-vs-wisconsin-2014/

He totals 2 tackles and .5 sacks. He was single blocked often by a TE. He was a non-factor in the Wisconsin blowout as Gordon ran all over them. It includes highlights of Gordon breaking arm tackles of Gregory. The TE throwing him around like a rag-doll. He is pancaked a few times as well. He does beat Tyler Marz on one play early on (and it's a good move) but the rest of the game...nada. Wisconsin has some real men blocking up there.

As for Brett Kollmann...he lost me with some of his 'over the top' analysis. He wrote an article about Ryan Mallett coming to Houston as the second coming of Peyton Manning. The same 'over the top' analysis. He says he 'charted' 34 drop backs from Mallett where he didn't make a SINGLE bad read. It's pretty entertaining. Guys like Brett have all the lingo down perfect. They even make some up to sound brilliant. They just see what they want, IMO.

Hey, I'm cool with Gregory being a "potential" elite pro. He already is an elite athlete. I just think he has a ways to go and a few too many unknowns about how he will get there. Forget the fact that he admits to using weed regularly and coming into the 'new NFL' with a level 1 substance offense. He might be a great player BUT after watching him against Wisconsin, I had seen enough to know we don't need the risk. I think a guy like Heath would eat his lunch. He might be able to 'flash' against the Michael Oher's of the NFL but there aren't many of them.

keslerclan great link. That guy looked terrible. JJ Watt Ray Charles can see this guy sucks and he is being touted as a first rounder you have got to be kidding me. I don't think they should take him as an undrafted free agent hell it looked like dri archers little brother beat him for a long gain in that game. The guy is slow to move does not seem to get off blocks very well, made I think two plays and is likely the guy that would make Jarvis Jones look like a great pick. I hope to hell we pass on this guy on a positive note if he does get suspended for multiple games he is unlikely to be missed.

I think I have had some confusion about Gregory. Did he have some kind of Domestic Violence charge dropped while in college? I had thought so, but now and not so sure.

I think the best comparison to Gregory is Demarcus Ware. That's his top-end.

Low end might be someone like Kameron Wimbley (who has hung around the league an awful long time).

at the gym, i saw ESPN doing a mock draft with the reporters they have per team.

Gregory was on the board
Peters was too

dude took Byron Jones

what?

I'd take Peters before Gregory. An attitude adjustment is one thing. A person who has already admitted to having trouble stopping smoking weed (meaning he is addicted) is another. I know some will say pot is legal in some states but that is not the point. DUI on alcohol or pot is the same damn thing. Testing positive for pot is still a drug and is a crime in most states and against the league policy. No way, I take Gregory. That hinges on him admitted he had trouble getting off weed. Has he already checked himself into rehab? If not, I don't trust him at all.

I think there is much better corner depth and would take Gregory. Deebo is at the end and Jarvis...who knows. We need a stud pass rusher. I would take a corner in rd 2.

That wouldn't surprise me at all, he has decent game tape, has the size we generally look for at the position, not shown any off the field issues like the other two and he's a world class athlete.

I think most of us believe that a better pass rush would make the DB's look better. However, several times it has seemed like a LB was 1/2 step away from the QB when the ball was thrown. If there is a good enough CB that makes the QB wait that extra half 1/2 step, we ought to be in a pretty good position.

I like Peters a lot. If Gregory or Dupree are not there, I take Peters. Not sure what I think of Shane Ray. Gregory is much better I think, as long as he can add 15 lbs.

No way anyone picks (in their right mind) Byron Jones over Peters and/or Gregory...

We need a playmaker on defense. Plain and simple. Right now, the "elephant in the room" is there a better playmaker at OLB or DB?

The drop off, in talent, after the first 4 DB's is tremendous...

If we take the hellified pass rusher in the first (somewhere between 1.12 - 1.22) - how do we know that an adequate DB will be there when we pick again in the 2nd???

Alcohol is quite numbing...

Shane Ray was also on the board .... I was smh because ... well **** BECAUSE

PJ Williams, Darby,, or Jalen Collins may be there in rd 2.

I had/have Collins as my 2nd rd pick ... I don't believe he will be there when we pick. His stock is allegedly pointing up as the draft grows nearer.

I thought his stock was going down after his drug use came out?

That's what I thought too ... but these media guys keep picking him in the first ... so, who knows?

If Dupree somehow fell to us, I would sprint to the podium. Most mocks have him going in the top 10, though.

He basically was arrested for going left of center and having a blunt. It's not as if he was arrested for DUI .... this incident may just ensure that he falls to around our slot.

Understood.

Who's better in your mind? Gregory w/ his know weed issues - or Ray, now, with his???

If both were there, I'd take Ray ... for two reasons: 1) While he was stupid enough to get caught with weed, he wasn't stupid enough to test positive for it during the combine and hasn't admitted that he has a "chronic" problem. and 2) I'm not sure about how well Gregory will do with putting on and keeping on the weight. he will need to stand up against the run. I would assume he's been working with a nutritionist and the fact that he's allegedly dropped below 230 Lbs after the combine concerns me. If pressed for a third reason, I think that Gregory's motor isn't always running as hot as Ray's is.

Shane Ray is overrated in this draft as Dante Fowler is also. Beasley stinks vs the run.

The OLB you want in this draft is Randy Gregory! His ability to use his arms to keep O-linemen off him is uncanny. I haven't seen a guy with the ability to do that in a long, long time.
