The reason I ask is I saw Jimmy Johnson, a Football life, and its clear his ability to command respect from the players and motivate them was tremendous. An astute evaluator of talent, a master speaker, and a man who's keenly aware of his time outs, Johnson runs something of a private coaching clinic in Key West Florida, with current head coaches such as Bill Belichick stopping by for visits.
If you haven't heard of Johnson's speech on how he handles his players, you should. Or you should listen to the players comment on him. He struck the perfect balance between stroking his guys and having them fear him or at the very least become very aware his eyes are always on you. The Cowboys had their share of divas on their championship teams, but it never stopped them from focusing on winning.
Another thing that stood out is Jimmy said hit me on the head real hard with a hammer the next time I take a dumb guy. Oh, I hated the 1990's Cowboys, but they were that good. The Steelers pick low IQ / iffy character types too often.
Back to Belichick, I'd say he took much of what Jimmy said and runs his team the same way. He can take a Randy Moss type, and get the most out of him.
1 ) Would Tomlin accept this type of help? He has declined help in the form of a time outs coach before.
2 ) Would Jimmy offer it to him?
