Words of wisdom from Greg Lloyd

Look, I'm neither pro nor con Jarvis Jones, but his production is so poor that he's barely worth noting.

He's hardly worth mentioning on the board. If you're reading Jarvis take it for what it's worth. Dude, we barely know who you are. It's a good thing they assign numbers and give out programs. Know what I'm saying?

i would agree except for the fact that he's a first rounder means the steelers are likely still counting on him to be the starter and will draft accordingly. That means likely no direct competition will be brought in aside from maybe a late round pick.

If they do spend a high pick on a OLB, i'm guessing it will be on a bigger guy who can play against the RT, power rush and stuff the run. I doubt they will spend a high pick on a smaller speed rusher who would be in direct competition with Jarvis. I can see them passing up guys like Shane Ray or Beasley if they are on the board.

Look at how long they stuck with Ziggy when it was obvious he couldn't play. Even after they drafted Heyward who was clearly better from day 1, they kept playing Ziggy.

I one who also hasn't Uncle Jarvis do much of anything. James Harrison has had singles game stats, that mean more than a season long total of Jarvis'. Let him go after current contract is up. Unless he shows vast improvement this season, bye bye.

Lloyd is probably pissed also due to Jarvis wearing his coveted #95 and not representing it properly.......he hasn't made an impact worth shouting about!!!!!!

I'm not saying Jones is a power house, but there is no way he only weighs 180 lbs. Even looking like a safety, 180 lbs at his height he'd look more like McLovin' than a safety.

I'm just going by what Tunch and Wolf said. They said Jarvis did not look like a football player even, that if he walked by you on the street, you'd never suspect he was in the NFL.

It should be noted that this was near the end of the season after Jarvis came back from injury. He may have dropped 20 or so lbs. They said that Jarvis is a health nut with almost no body fat. He refuses to eat foods that will bulk him up. Wolf does a lot of work with strength training. I'd say he's pretty good at judging somebody's weight by looks. They seemed adamant he was under 200.

He was going to be great he led the sec in sacks Sorry but never saw a thing from him in college to think he would ever be a player and stated that since day 1

Everything you wrote is true, but c'mon he has been playing college and NFL football for quite a few years now without any sign that his "spine issues" are really issues at all.

You don't know that. Maybe his spinal issues are why he can't work out to gain any muscle? He'll be 26 years old this year. How many players gain a lot of muscle mass at 26? People talked all last offseason about him hitting the weights and how big he was going to get after his rookie year. Now the same issue is here. Why didn't he bulk up? So maybe the spinal issue is a big deal? Something isn't right. I mean what other reason could there be for him not bulking up?

What he lacks in size he makes up for in slowness and weakness, if he could move as fast as the steelers did when going to the podium with the draft pick he might be something. I think the kid is a bust. Worilds is just a guy, Woodly turned into just a guy after James was let go. Our interior linebackers are looking a bit weak as well. We have one or two that might be something but I see no one there that scares the other team. Our secondary is not looking real good either.

Vader in another thread you talked about drafting having hurt us, it sure has, if it keeps up for a few more seasons this team will look like the John McKay led Buchaneers

I wouldn't call Joey Porter one of the best players in Steelers history.

Porter is learning the coaching aspects of the game. He was a VERY good Steelers player when here. Good enough to merit a coaching position on the team. I seen some fire this season, that has been lacking in the short past. Uncle Jarvis can't contribute when he is not on the field. His time off the field, contributes to him not being able to work / build / muscle mass. As I've stated, unless he shows some vast improvement this coming season, he should be shown the door. If no one signs him, bring him back at league minimum and go from there.

God, I miss Greg Lloyd in a Steelers uniform. He is exactly what this team is missing at OLB. Lloyd is everything Jarvis Jones should be but doesn't appear to want for himself.

You and me both. As far as Steelers I got to watch with my own two eyes, he was my favorite

Drafting is the number one issue with this team. It trumps everything. The defense sucks because Hood, Jones, Worilds and Allen haven't worked out. Hell when a guy sitting on his couch one week is your best LB you're in trouble.

I am no fan of Jarvis Jones. I hated the pick, because when I watched him at Georgia, he just ran around, much like Lloyd says.

However, I hate this crap about putting on weight. ****, we have watched over the years players who could have been great get to heavy to get out of their own way. Levon Kirkland. Lamar Woodley. Just be careful with that put on weight stuff.

Say what you want about Levon Kirkland, at least we got some VERY productive years out of him. What has uncle Jarvis done for us, lately?

What has he ever done for us but waste a first round pick?

You are right about Kirkland. But you also have to admit once he signed that big deal after the '97 season, he blew up like the Pillsbury Doughboy. It was a shame. What a player he was before that. He may have been the best defensive player in the SB against the Cowboys. And he was great in '97. All I am saying is I think sometimes we get caught up in weight. As long as it is good weight Jones puts on, if he can.

Kirkland was one of my favorites too.....Big Cat.....hit like a tank, and fast!!!!! #99 hell yeauh!!!!!!

he better be in camp at 240, with bulkier arms and a vicious attitude or I want to see Peezy tear into him verbally so bad that it lights a fire under his *** so hot that Peezy tells JJ get it together play like a first round pick, I'll teach you a few different pass rush moves use him or if not I won't hesitate to tell coach Butler that Garvin or H.Jones or a rookie will start to get a good bulk of his reps
