With the 2nd easiest schedule and a 7th playoff spot added anything but the playoffs would an epic failure.

You're an epic failure. Mom never told you. You. Are. An. Epic. Failure.

If you're basing the difficulty of the season on last year's performance, that is foolish. Teams change from year to year, and we won't know the actual strength of the schedule until the season is over.

Cope, you're being practical, using practical historical data and reasonable assumptions -- with this idiot.

Don't waste your time.

You're right Cope but I use just a bit of a different twist.....

I track the STEELERS stregnth of schedule by tallying the W / L of the teams the day we play them. I haven't done a league wide tally but have done our devision tally and it kind of relates to the stregnth of schedule the day you play instead of year end. Does this make sense?

A lot of times, it's not who you play, it's when you play them. So getting a team with their starting QB early in the season, is different than playing them later in the season without the QB. Just like DIC was referring to. I remember losing to PHL early in the season with Caron Wentz, when he was throwing BBs, and they started hot - 3-0. They get some big injuries and they finish the season going 4-9 down the stretch. We saw them on the wrong week. Facing them anytime after week 3 was probably a win.

Also we didn't know we had the toughest schedule in 08 until after the season. Toughest strength of schedule for any superbowl winner. Before the season, it wasn't the hardest schedule, but no one knew how good the NFC East and AFC South were going to be that year. Only 1 losing team out of both of those divisions (JAX)

it could be anywhee from 11-5-13-3 which will eithier tie us for home field or 2 in the afc after KC hoping they have a hangover

I agree. If our key players stay healthy, not making the playoffs this year would be inexcusable. I know there are always surprises and breakout players, but I always like to look at the QBs we play. A lot of young guys with potential, but the Steelers really get to avoid a lot of the superstars this year.

The defense has a pretty good chance at being better than last year, probably not 38 take aways, but with Bush in year 2, Fitz getting the entire offseason to get the defense down, and Tuitt returning, Watt seems to keep getting better.

Look at me, look at me

What is there to see........................ hahahahhhhaaaaaa

I am seeing all the right stuff out of Rothlesberger and his rehab, the right moves in player acquisition, we've added a QBs coach and even think out ST coach may step it up a notch. I'm a little worried about Randy Fitchner and HCMVLT but they are who they are and may surprise a step up as well. We have as good a chance as anyone and I like to think a better than not a shot to go all the way.

I feel better with the offense because they brought in Matt Canada this year just as they added Teryl Austin to the defensive staff last year. A new voice with a fresh perspective and ideas is what both sides of the ball needed.

The Steelers , after all that went wrong last year, don't even count as a team to look at for strength of schedule. We should see some improvement just for the fact of how many players got extra playing time with the injuries. Would be nice to see some star power come out of the down season.

Totally agree, and if Ben is healthy, he makes the entire O better, defenses have to respect the entire field and can't stack the box and crowd the LOS.

What? Everyone knew that 08’ schedule was very difficult. It was discussed on here all the time. The reason was that almost every team we played had a good year in 07’. Just look at the stats. Only the Rats (who always play us tough) and maybe TN had better years in 08’. Everyone knew going into the season that this was a tough schedule. Even before the season ESPN talked about it "Based on the previous season's results, the team faced the most difficult schedule in over 30 years; however, they were called Super Bowl contenders by ESPN."

Texas: 8-8 both years
Clowns were 10-6 the year before and only 4-12 in 08’
Eagles: 9-6 in 08’ and 8-8 in 07’
Dallas: 9-7 in 08’ and 13-3 in 07’
NY: 12-4 in 08’ and 10-6 in 07’
Redskins: 8-8 in 08’ and 9-7 in 07’
Rats: 11-5 in 08’ and 5-11 in 07’. The only big jump for any team on the schedule
Bungles: 4-11 in 08’ and 7-9 in 07’
Jax: 5-11 in 08’ and 11-5 in 07’. This is the opposite of the rats
Indy: 12-4 in 08’ and 13-3 in 07’
SD: 8-8 in 08’ and 11-5 in 07’
NE: 11-5 in 08’ and 16-0 in 07’
TN: 13-3 in 08’ and 10-6 in 07’

I know you guys love to bash coach. I get it. But everyone was talking about the SOS as soon as the schedule came out. It was all over the sports media.

The media can talk about all they want, but coach's post comes with an agenda over a discussion. Regardless too many factors contribute to hang weight on any strength of schedule. Too many team changes across the board. They won't be playing our version of last year's team anymore than the Steelers will be playing their version. I just find the whole topic silly based on that.

Yeah, teams do change a bit. Our #1 problem, Tom Brady has left New England. KC and their young players are prone to a super bowl hang over. We have two road games vs playoff teams, and play many bad teams .500 or below. And the NFL added a 7th playoff seed.

2020 should be a good year. But then again this board is full of stupid people. I could tell them the sky was blue and some would argue green. Not even Tomlin's lousy record vs .500 and below teams ( Which will be tested in 2020 ) can stop the Steelers from making the playoffs.

If you could say something smart, the defense won't be quite as good at collecting turnovers this year.

I just hope they can salvage that all-important 8 win season. But wait, if they have an extra game...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

And in fairness...
I think what Coach was really getting at is... "Tomlin Sucks!"

Is he wrong? I'm not so sure...

Wow how brilliant of a deduction, a regular Einstein. But they can still be good if not more technically sound. Still health and getting hot in the second half of the year will be key. Want something smart ? Strength of schedules are silly almost as silly as your posts.

It wasn't just the media. The board was full of the SOS talk during that year. Everyone lauded the SOS that year... even to this day. But when the SOS is easy no one wants to use it. Also haven't people bitched for years on here that NE had an easy schedule? Wait I thought SOS didn't matter... well I guess it does if you're not the Steelers.

Also there are agenda's all over the board. Why is coach different? You don't think every single post has some agenda? When you see posts about how great Dupree played last year is that not an agenda? When you see posts on the new draft picks with videos that show every single good/great play they ever made is that not an agenda? If Claypool had gone to the clowns do you think people would be saying how he was the steal of the draft? You can go back to any draft and this board had videos of how great they were going to be and that X player was the steal of the draft. It's all agenda.
